iTunes Chart November (III)
Barlow's increasing desire to make Marcus as musically irrelevant as possible. 90% of the song choices this year have been awful.

Ben Howard • Every Kingdom
He was never going to be a singles artist though. His album got to Number 7 with no cross genre marketing past radio one. When he's nominated for the Mercury it will have a second wind of course ;)

Ben Howard • Every Kingdom
I hope this cute video gets sent out to the music channels for Christmas: b-g0Uvt61Ow Its on Muzu so maybe but the lanterns and the lights make it perfect for this time of year. Only Love for XMas Number 1!

iTunes Chart November (III)
I hardly ever like the Bey songs everyone else does. I'd rather gauge my ears than listen to the cloying sentimentality of Best Thing I Never Had. She definitely hasn't had the hit rate with me she had with Destiny's Child. 1)Crazy in Love 2)Sweet Dreams 3)Why Don't you Love Me? 4)Broken Hearted Girl 5)Me Myself and I 6)Baby Boy 03 Bonnie and Clyde and Telephone if they count make the grade too.

MTV Brand New acts for 2012
I really hope R&B isn't making a huge comeback. Not that it went away but to the levels of the mid 00's. I like the dance trend we have going on.

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit for Xmas #1?
And what reason is that? Smells like Teen Spirit hasn't gone out of fashion in 20 years. Its a musical milestone and changed music ever since. Without the success of Teen Spirit would we have seen the rise of the Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Pearl Jam or Hole? Would Britpop have succeeded in its aftermath? You can even thank it for the return of plain old guitar music after the spectacle of Hair metal in the 70's and 80's. I also think modern rock can learn more from Nirvana. Kurt was inspired by POP music, the Beatles in particular. He wasn't up for screaming unless it was making a point, he was an introvert. He knew the importance of melody and the music was stripped back to the tried and tested Chorus/Verse/Bridge formula.

Now 80
I just found out this existed on Spotify! I'm buying it. :w00t: Its the ORIGINAL ARTISTS and not teeny bopper Disney stars! My only disappointment, no Tarzan songs. I need Two Worlds, Strangers Like me and Son of Man on there perhaps to replace some of the sequel songs. But look at that Hercules representation. Zero to hero.

Avicii - Levels
Saw it today on Music TV in the UK. I was thinking that this could be a killer track to set the New Year Fireworks to.

UK Chart Information - Singles & Albums
If only she would put aside a week per single to come to the UK. The European press would come to her in London. She just has to show up, do some chat shows and do a live lounge on Radio One and maybe X Factor/Strictly. Part of the reason Rihanna and Buble are so successful here is because they maintain visibility in the media on their terms.

Music blog invents tool to eliminate Nickelback from the web
I miss when KOL were churning out kooky stuff like Molly's Chambers and On Call. I don't know what they are now.

Avicii - Levels
Thank god the radio edit cuts off the first minute of useless noise and gets to the great part of the track. This wouldn't have been a big hit had Flo Rida not sampled it. Its just too empty for anywhere but the club.

'X-Factor' winner set to cover Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'?
I remember Sky News interviewing people on whether they preferred Burke's Hallelujah to Buckley's and I'll never forget one respondant. Buckley's didn't sound Christmassy enough, it was too dull. It was then I realised, they aren't listening to the actual song. They just hear Hallelujah and think its a hymn. Then of course changing the title of Many of Horror but we still got a Christmas number one that chanted 'Many of Horror' as its bridge. This year will be no different. 'Life taught me to die', listen to that when eating your turkey,

Her 'Miss you Most (At Christmastime)' is always overshadowed by All I Want for Christmas but is equally amazing. A Thousand Years may be my ballad of the year but its had no real promotion besides the Twilight soundtrack. Same thing happened with Florence's stunning 'Heavy in Your Arms'

Excuse me while I cry that another one of my favourite songs will be defecated on then rubbed in my face on music TV/Radio

Singles Sales 2004 v 2011
Between Spotify and Music TV I cherry pick my favourite songs and make MixTapes. I've been making mixtapes like that since I was 12* when I realised that at best I liked half the songs on a compilation album. I can churn out a 20 track CD maybe 4 times a year when the going is good. During the mid-00's (04-07) it was lean, I was getting 2 to 3. *with Downloads I can now do it legally! I still buy albums though, the albums have to be really good though. I've bought more albums this year than ever before.

Paramore Singles Club
Paramore are the only group I have complete faith in. There is only one song of theirs in their entire back catalogue I haven't liked. 'The Only Exception' was mediocre and unlike Paramore.

Natalia Kills - Perfectionist
I'm astounded Mirrors wasn't huge. Its such an epic song, but I guess S&M by RiRi stole its thunder

Bon Iver 'Bon Iver' | June '11
Going to get all the ire I can tell but this album disappointed me. It felt a bit samey. None of the songs had individual personality like 'For Emma'. I keep listening to this, hoping it will click because I loved 'For Emma' so much but it just isn't. :snif:

Ben Howard • Every Kingdom
Ben Howard is the type of artist I would think Fearne Cotton pretends to like to get some cred. Also, this and Charlie Simpson's album are my favourites of the year.

Singles Sales 2004 v 2011
The £5 CD won't disappear. It will perhaps take longer to discount. You can get Noah and the Whale's- Last Night on Earth and Tinie Tempah's- Disc-Overy for under £4 at Amazon now. That is the type of deal that will become the £5 CD. I can't see how this is going to help retailers though. HMV itself is going through a bad time even with a thriving online business. This is just going to reduce profits for them even more and lead to more closures of stores. If HMV can't survive, there is no hope for the indies anyway.

Singles Sales 2004 v 2011
Its kind of funny how it took illegal downloaders to shift the music industry into a more efficient form of distribution. The same way the pirate radio stations revolutioned the music industry.

Flo Rida at #2
Levels doesn't feel like it starts until a minute in and even then the electronic sound is a bit weak. Good on Flo Rida for bumping it up to something sounding more substantial. The vocal is great though.

Christmas no1 single odds
I'd be OK with Gaga or Nirvana. I'm not a great fan of projects like the Military Wives Choir. Why couldn't they plop it out for rememberance day?
