I'm sorry Hilary Duff and Rick Astley on the same playlist is mindbending. Who is their audience? 30 somethings or 50 somethings?
  2. Is Alex Warren really that much of a risk? Ordinary was huge but is there really an Alex Warren fanbase?

I have a sinking feeling Bella Kay might push Sombr down to 7. Forever at 7
  4. I think its been playlisted in some places which could account for the rapid rise
  5. Bloody Nora Aperture is out the Spotify top 40!
  6. I'd rather Bella Kay get number one than anything reset after the Brits. Or god forbid Olivia Dean
  7. But who saves us from Bella's extended run at #1. I love how fast the chart is moving at the top.

Bella Kay is climbing rapidly. I hope she can get top 10 this week. Probably a lock for next week at least

Spotify data has to be missing from this to explain these positions

I still have confidence in him getting to 6 by Friday

I'm assuming this top 10 is a bit static from last week so they want to add some potential excitement

Expecting Sombr to escape number 7. Maybe even number 6!

The acoustic version of Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) is one of my favourite songs ever made.
  14. Number 6 story on BBC News. BBC NewsSam Fender and Olivia Dean reach number one after 35 week...Rein Me In sets a new UK chart record for the longest time to reach number one.Great to see the charts garnering outside interest past Christmas

Sombr doing the exact opposite of what I thought he'd do. Bad Bunny doing exactly what I thought he'd do but credit to him, he's got a second track in there. Win some you lose some
  16. Removing older tracks or album tracks wouldn't help. It would just mean songs already out would stay around longer. I'm sure this is impossible to do but is there any way to measure how output is affected by this? Are labels just not putting out as many tracks knowing they'll hang around for months? The only thing I can think of to speed up the chart is more popular music or acts. When I was growing up the Pop formula was pretty clear. A summer bop, a Q4 album and a big ballad for Christmas. Indie/Rock would take 3 years between albums but not pop stars. They were a constant presence in our culture. they were on Top of the Pops, Live and Kicking, SMTV and CD:UK. Now, pop stars take themselves more seriously. They too are artists like the Indie bands, why shouldn't they take years to make a record? Your target audience has gone from 12-15, are you going with them? I'd gone from Steps to Linkin Park in that time! Now don't get me wrong. I think pop music now is better than it was 20 years ago because there is less of a production line but this does filter through to the charts and how slow they are.
  17. What is the allure of Eurovision for the talent though? It won't do anything for Dua Lipa. If you are up and coming it will usually kill your career stone dead. There is the feeling that no matter what we send voters won't vote for us so what is the point? Then if you are a songwriter? Why give a great song to Eurovision when you can give it any number of pop stars and make some good money on it? I see two options What they are doing right now. Getting talented people off social media with nothing to lose from doing this. Get someone who doesn't need the money like Ed Sheeran to write a song under a pseudonym. If it does well we can do a big reveal, its number one next week.

He was strongly ahead on Friday but slipping fast and he's been consistently ahead on Apple. I thought the'd generate enough of a lead that Sam wouldn't pass it until Wednesday/Thursday

Shocking from Bad Bunny considering he was so far ahead on streaming. I really thought he'd be number 1 across all the updates and Sam would pip it on Friday. They've definitely dispatched. They are on eBay. Unless this is a second drop?

It will come down to how many physicals So Easy has shipped I guess.
  22. I like them both. I like Rein me In more.
  23. Sam topples BB a day ahead of schedule but is pegged back by So Easy to Fall in Love. I suspect that will fall as the week progesses but its not actually that far ahead on Spotify. Its not ahead on Apple or Amazon. We also need consider Rein Me in has the solo version on top. I think this is a case of Valentines playlists in action
  24. There is an add for Raindance on Spotify and it doesn't include any of Dave's bits. I thought that was so funny. Tems is selling the track. I wonder what she does next.
  25. She didn't have a number 1 at all for long time.
