iTunes Chart: March 2012 (Part I)
True but its not something to rule out. TV still hasn't really got on board with Gotye. The Box is remaining stubborn on it.

He sounds like Peter Gabriel piched a little higher and Peter is of course a legend. It has massive TV support. IYou can't go 15 minutes without hearing it on sky.

OCC - Top 20 UK Female Singles of the 21st Century
Because while she has a beautiful voice she sings it as the perfect singing lesson. There is no feeling in it. Its like she doesn't know what she's singing. Its not a hymn. Its not really religious, in the sense its using biblical language and allegory to show the break down of a relationship. For example, the humilation and degradation is shown through Samson and Delilah 'She broke your throne and she cut your hair'. The 'Hallelujah' is ironic. Alexandra's version sounds airheaded in a way. Where is the passion, where is the pain, where is the torture?

Wow, Adele just killed it! Better than her Grammys performance too

MIA- Bad Girls has been getting increased video play. It might even be a VIP track of the week on one of the channels. I've been turning it over, blah.

Foo Fighters sweep rock awards at Grammys
Lets face it, there was no real competition. The Foos own mainstream rock and have for the last 10 years barring singular eras like Kings of Leon 'Only By the Night' and Green Day's 'American Idiot'

Bon Iver 'Bon Iver' | June '11
Urban music is bigger over there even if it has come down since the urban domination of 10 years ago. I think its bred a sense of entitlement in some people. See also Kanye's reaction when Evanescence beat him in 2004. (although Kanye has since become one of the biggest promoters of cross genre collaborations including Bonny Bear) Its just sad its manifesting as extreme prejudice. Twitter was basically like this all night whenever a white person who wasn't Adele appeared, hence 'Who is Paul McCartney?'

Steps - 'The Ultimate Collection'
I'm hoping that Steps' success allows A1 to get a record label here and put out their last album. There is appetite for late 90s bands!

Stupid Hoe has been sent to music TV though. I saw it twice last night

I don't know why they are going on about 'wholesale' price. Itunes has no physical product they buy to stock. Any increase on Sony's part would be a demand for a higher percentage of the sale

How Many Whitney songs do you have?
Looking at my Media player I have 8 I Have Nothing Queen Of the Night (Why isn't this on more?!) I'm Every Woman Saving All My Love for You The Greatest Love of All Run To You My Love is Your Love I want to Dance with with Somebody But I probably have I Will Always Love You, Step by Step and Its not all Right but its OK on tapes somewhere. As to whether I'll buy more, maybe 3 to 5. I need to think about it, maybe Moment in Time and How Will I Know. That or I'll get the greatest hits in town today EDIT: Found I Want to Dance with Somebody on my MP3 player

iTunes Chart: February 2012 (Part II)
I first started paying attention to the charts when 'Its Not Right but its OK' was everywhere. It breaks my heart Whitney is gone. Despite all her problems Million Dollar Bill sounded fresher than anything Beyonce has put out in years. She still had it. Whitney hasn't been relevant enough to galvanise her fanbase in years. Whitney was so culturally pervasive for anyone who remembers the 80s and 90s. She was always there, her songs were anthemic and defined an era along with Michael Jackson and Madonna. Its just a matter of her death spurring people to finally get those songs on their MP3 player or in their collection where it may have slipped their mind before. I don't know about you but I don't have all the songs I love on my device.

David Guetta used to be quite good prior to 2007. Since then I've liked three songs, When Love Takes Over, Where Dem Girls at and Turn me On. They aren't groundbreaking but they are listenable enough. Best of all though: 7O6RO26OI8I

They played One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful' on E! News yesterday in the US. That's a good sign for them. I wish we were sending the better stuff overseas though. They UK is lucky we can sustain our own entertainment business that is part of the global market. Few countries can do that significantly, fewer that aren't anglophone

But to be fair most UK acts that have great careers never crack the US either, it works both ways

MusicWeek says Gotye needs to outsell Guetta by 2K today and tomorrow. He has outsold him by 3K on Wednesday-Thursday. With that 23% itunes lead its looking Ok for now.

iTunes Chart: February 2012 (Part I)
Its not playlisted on many music video channels though. I don't even think Gotye is on The Box yet but they are playing Kiss The Stars and International Love to death

What makes you Beautiful might just be worse than Sexy Bitch. I wonder if some people even read the lyrics. Its not a song about humility. The lyrics say what makes you beautiful is that you don't know your beautiful. Its so manipulative. Its pandering to girls with low self esteem who want to think 1D will adore them. Its shameless. All their songs consist of cliches teen girls want to hear. At least Sexy Bitch is upfront and hilarious, because objectifying women and comparing them to angry dogs is not being disrespectful! I miss the 'A Little More Love' David

She was on at 1am during a sport that is not popular here. So yes, it had Zero effect in the UK chart.

Why? We just have to see if it keeps growing in the lead. Its not even midday on a Wednesday, its almost exactly half way through the trading week
