  1. Great to see the KLF top 1991  1992's not a bad year at all really. 15 Tasmin Archer ‘Sleeping Satellite’ 12 Jimmy Nail ‘Ain’t No Doubt’ 10 Charles and Eddie ‘Would I Lie to You?’ 08 The Shaman ‘Ebeneezer Goode’ 06 Shakespears Sister ‘Stay’ 05 Right Said Fred ‘Deeply Dippy’ 04 Wet Wet Wet ‘Goodnight Girl’ 03 KWS ‘Please Don’t Go’ 02 Snap! ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’ Much prefer The Power 01 Whitney Houston ‘I Will Always Love You’ Overblown but not bad -2 Erasure ‘Abba-esque’ I suppose I should like this, especially as it helped rejuvenate interest in ABBA, but I really don't like most of the songs on the EP at all. Tough between this and BoyzIIMen for the -2, EOTR is a bit crap IMO.
  2. Chasing Cars again. Surprised at the non-love for Rogue Traders!
  3. Ugh, awful year for #1s. Apart from my top 3 of course. 15 KLF feat The Children of the Revolution ‘3AM Eternal’ 12 U2 ‘The Fly’ 10 Enigma ‘Sadness Part 1’ ^ all absolutely brilliant 08 Color Me Badd ‘I Wanna Sex You Up’ not awful at all IMO! Cheesy as, and wouldn't be in my top 5 in most years, but 1991... 06 Cher ‘The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss)’ 05 The Clash ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’ 04 Bryan Adams ‘(Everything I Do) I Do it For You’ 03 Chesney Hawkes ‘The One And Only’ 02 Michael Jackson ‘Black Or White’ 01 Iron Maiden ‘Bring Your Daughter… To The Slaughter’ -2 Queen ‘Bohemian Rhapsody/These Are The Days of Our Lives (1991)’ not fussed on TATDOOL, BR is good obviously, not my candidate for best song of all time though. I'm in the 'it belongs in the 70s' camp, I know I voted The Clash but meh, that wasn't a #1 before. It's the same reason the Elvis re-issues would do so badly if rated for 2005. Anyway, BR wouldn't be in my top 3 of 1975 or 1976!

Love 'em...though it's so frustrating when the tape snaps or gets caught in the deck! Cassettes over 10 years old can be hard to keep in good condition...whereas 40-year old vinyl can still sound fresh (wonder if those really old 78rpm records still do!)
  5. Well obviously that's just my opinion. But I really think it's crap! I quite like Snow Patrol, yet this is just dire. Awful lyrics, boring music. The fact that it's overplayed on anything supposedly 'emotional' doesn't help, but I've disliked it since it first charted.
  6. Ugh, Chasing Cars again. Even if you don't absolutely hate it, it's clearly one of the four worst songs left.
  7. Curious as to why this bombed 23-52 after weeks of stabilising. Was the month in the 23-27 range Christmas time?
  8. This. Though I hadn't thought about cherry-picked album tracks, just download singles that are continuously available.
  9. I think 80-90k this week, 600k or so this year. 18k behind Adele is a greater gap than I expected, though Adele does have Sunday sales which might be quite high especially in the supermarkets. I can see Adele doing 120-130k this week so Jessie could do 100k, but probably not much more.
  10. I'd be up for it when I've got the time!

I really like Duffy, she always comes across really well in my opinion, not highly-strung or obnoxious at all. Her voice is really good too. Musically, her peak for me was the sublime 'Rockferry' single; Mercy is a modern classic and some of her first album was excellent, although I wouldn't give it more than 6/10 overall. I love the fact that 'Well Well Well' starts off with that screech! I like how it's quite brazen and I find it bizarre that so many people hate it. I can see it being polarizing but then surely some people must love it? If Adele had done it I reckon it would be bummed to extreme, especially on here(although Adele might have sung it better tbh). Duffy made an album she wanted to make and, although it was basically a flop (though even 2/3 of its opening sales would have got it to #1 a lot of the time!), that doesn't mean it was a bad record. If she gets dropped, well, it's a shame. I doubt she'd have another 2m selling album but she could go on to be a great established artist.
  12. Still CC, thought there are a few other crappy ones left.
  13. Gutted that I never saw them live. I liked them since I heard the singles from 'White Blood Cells'. Middle four albums are brilliant, and IT took a while but really grew on me (I'd say it's as good as GBMS!), not as fussed on the debut but it's still good.
  14. About time isn't it. I actually really like FIOE and never got into their first album. Not sure what to make of that album cover, very Eighties. Will wait and see what to make of this.
  15. Fantastic album. On first listen I liked it overall - three or four outstanding tracks, not that fussed on some others. After more listens, love it. If you hear it once and aren't that pleased with it, give it time - I can see it being a real grower on people. Hopefully her second Mercury (and a losing nomination as Best British Female 2012!)
  16. I'd actually rather people perform live on TV, even if it is just on Loose Women or whatever. Not that it would make any difference to most of the viewers, but it would be nice. I don't mind a few bum notes in a live performance either. Unless the whole thing sounded like cats in heat, it's OK. After all, you're watching an act you like/love/your musical idol - the experience should be as if not more important that the technicalities of the singing. It would probably be worse if they turned up two hours late, out of their heads on booze or drugs, were really obnoxious but did a decent performance.

Haha, I doubt it did! I'm probably totally wrong about 1.5m - I'm pretty sure it did over 1m though (it was over 900k in Jan 2004).
  18. Yes, in terms of exposure. In that sense it's often just a form of airplay, though. It's only if the video is renowned/talked about that it makes a difference for itself: Examples: a-ha, Britney, some Rihanna...Electric Six! In such cases I would say the video would attract people to the song, rather than just being a means of airplay, if that makes sense.

^ I thought it had shifted closer to 1.5m! To be honest, given the healthy sales climate in 2003-4, I can believe both sold 900k. 'Present for Everyone' must have sold loads before Christmas and the debut was in and out of the top 10 for ages.

Singles-wise, no! Most (all?) of their number 1s would be in the lowest-selling number 1s bracket (less than 200k) 'Who's David' sold less than 70k I think, You Said No about 100k, Crashed The Wedding about 125k... I do remember being surprised when their 'Thunderbirds/3AM' sold about 70k first-week, which was loads for the summer of 2004. It was top 20 year-end too IIRC, but probably only sold 180-190k total. Possibly 200k by now but I doubt it. Probably their biggest selling single was 'What I Go For School For' if it wasn't Thunderbirds. Year 3000 sold less that Thunderbirds did (might have passed it with downloads?)

    Number 2, running Gaga close.

Up to 50k this week and I'll say 114k for next week.
  23. The hideous Chasing Cars.
  24. Ugh, 2006 was pretty bad in terms of big-selling singles. Leona.
