I've never been so disappointed by an Enya track! I couldn't believe what I was hearing at 9.15 this morning. I had loved the 30 second clip that found its way onto Youtube over the weekend and was hopeful that this was going to be a really good, dark, haunting track. And so it is. For the first 30 seconds and then it all goes a bit wrong. By the time the chorus kicks in it's become a clumsy, cluttered mess of a song. The verses and choruses don't blend together neatly. The chorus has a weak, annoying, jerky (and rather tuneless) melody. Enya's voice is buried in the mix a bit. The beautiful Agnus Dei choral vocals at the beginning only briefly pop up again at the end. It's a bit experimental and I suppose I should give them some credit for that. But really, I thought it was going to be a masterpiece after having loved the title and the clip. I'm stunned at what a weak song it is...in terms of melody, lyrics and arrangement. Sorry for being so negative. I know that I will love the album - it's just this track that disappoints me.
  2. Yes I'm wondering that too. Although the lyric "City streets passing by" does fit with the theme of trains. Maybe the song does go from dark to upbeat.
  3. Yes I agree, it's quite different. I much prefer the 30 second clip we got on You Tube. I'm trying to work out how the two clips fit together in one song. The one on Youtube must be the verse and this new one is from the chorus. I prefer the first darker one.
  4. The promo clip is fantastic. A really good summary of her work over the past 20 years. It's good to hear a clip of Trains and Winter Rains.

I've got a really good feeling about this album. I think it's Nicky's reference to the "choir of one" that's made me so excited. I almost they are rediscovering what made Enya so popular in the first place. The harmony vocals of Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) are absolutely stunning in this clip. It could well be the first lead single I'll have liked since 1995. I was never very keen on 'Only Time' and really disliked 'Amarantine'.

It sounds absolutely amazing. I love Enya when she's at her darkest. The backing vocals of Agnus Dei is absolutely stunning.
  7. I've done it! I've got the green! It all just fell into place today. I had another look and within half an hour found the green. Once I got the breakthrough I needed the rest just very quickly fell into place. I can't help thinking there's a mistake in the order though and that E and W are the wrong way round. Anyway, I'm green and that's all that matters. :)
  8. I am completely and utterly stuck. I've written down all the words after telling a book goodbye. I've found a new book in Roma's library which has a lot of info that seem to relate to other books on Roma's site. I feel I need to tell the books on Roma's site something but no idea what. Other people seem to find this quite an easy week and say that I've done the hardest part. Yet I am utterly confused.

Just posted on enya.com UK Exclusive! Terry Wogan will play 'Trains and winter rains' on his morning programme 'Wake up to Wogan' on Monday 29th September 2008. The program will run from 7:30 am to 9:30 am (GMT). 'Trains and winter rains' is the first single of the new Enya album 'And winter came'. The single will be played at 9.10 am (GMT). This is good news for all of you who aren't in the UK. You can hear this on the BBC Radio 2 website for a week after it's been played. They did the same with Amarantine three years ago. I just hope I'm not disappointed this time.
  10. Just Google it! I'm still stuck on Week 4. i've found the 'new book' but not sure how to collect the passwords. I'm having a busy week at school and not managed to spend too much time on it yet. I've got the weekend but I've no idea where to go next.
  11. I can't help feeling I'm meant to go back to a book that was important last week. On Nicky's site. But I'm probably completely wrong.
  12. I've spent a lot more than three hours on it! I've translated the message in the secret room. I've bid farewell in the place I'm meant to, seen a lot of words move around (all of them have the N word in common). None of them are in blue or red. I'm now stuck.
  13. I've translated the text! And got to the next stage but need to go to bed now. Will carry on tomorrow.
  14. Any luck translating the text in the secret room Debargha? I'm getting nowhere!
  15. I'm not on Unity. I am absolutely stuck.
  16. Hi Debargha, I got into the secret room ok, but I cannot work out the gibberish that's written there! Are you having any luck?

America got Sounds of the Season long before the UK got the Christmas edition of Amarantine!

Less than a pearl would have been a much better title than Amarantine. How's Uni going David?

One toy soldier sounds like an instrumental to me.

People are jumping to the conclusion that there will be no instrumentals on this album. But if you read all the reports carefully, there is no confirmation of this. It just says that ten tracks are in English but that could mean the titles, not that they contain lyrics. The mystery remains whether or not o come o come is sung in Latin or English.

I'm a bit disappointed that Christmas Secrets won't be on the album to be honest. I know that sounds odd because it's a song we already have, but I think it's a great track and I would like to see it reach a wider audience. The Christmas edition of Amarantine didn't sell particularly well in the UK in 2006.

From Enya.com, the tracklisting for the album is as follows: And Winter Came Journey of the Angels White is in the winter night O come, O come, Emmanuel Trains and winter rains Dreams are more precious Last time by moonlight One toy soldier Stars and midnight blue The spirit of Christmas past My! My! Time flies! Oiche Chiuin (chorale) I'm amazed there's no Christmas Secrets or The Magic of the Night.

It sounds exciting but I would have liked at least one instrumental to break it up a bit. I've read somewhere that O Come O Come Emmanuel will be sung in Latin. I'm surprised there's no Loxian but not upset. I expect Magic of the Night and Christmas Secrets to be on the album. I'm relieved 'We wish you a merry Christmas' won't be though.
  24. I found this week's ok but it's true you need patience at a few stages. Just wait. :) The hardest things so far in the Games for me have been: 1. Realising you have to ajust the clock on your computer 2. Finding the valley city 3. Ruffling up the pages to get the Loxian script I would never ever have worked them out without being given hints and clues!
  25. I've got the green without any help from anyone this time! I hit a wall a few times but managed to keep going and get there.
