I feared Kenya would be a one-hit wonder, because labels fail all the time to develop artists with TikTok songs by focusing on the one song for six months. However, her success feels more organic, especially since she had a fanbase already and hasn't released multiple versions of the song to force it up the charts.

Andrew Cushin did a bunch of album signings and pushed to #1 spot on iTunes earlier today, so hopefully his sales and chart position will reflect that.

Mae pleaded for people to download her album on iTunes, but it's unclear if that strategy will work, as it’s fallen to #24. However, she signed about 100 copies yesterday and more on Thursday, which will boost her sales and may help her scrape into the top 75.

Instead of releasing a new song on Friday, Kenya should release a second version of "Strangers" if it doesn't reach number one this week.

I think the song has a strong chance of doing well on TikTok, because she started teasing it before "Strangers" and people loved it. She originally planned to release this song first, before signing to her label. I would have waited 3-4 weeks longer, but most viral songs don't have a follow-up for 6 months, so fair play to them for moving on.

Ed Sheeran released "Celestial" last year to soundtrack the Pokémon game, and it became a moderately successful pop hit. The general public know what to expect from Ed's pop music, and he doesn't need to deviate from it too much.

Ed Sheeran is the singing personification of the Live Laugh Love posters, stickers, and ornaments that the general public has in their homes. He appeals in the same way Michael Bublé does at Christmas: overplayed, generic, but beloved by mums. I don't enjoy his music, but I don't reasonably think his career is on a nosedive just because he's taken a different approach with his latest album. He's a staple in our lives at this point.

Ed can't win. He said this album wasn't for the charts, but he could release an album full of pop songs, and if any of the songs got close to number one, he'd then be criticised for pandering to the charts. It's not long until "Merry Christmas" makes a big return, which is sure to please everyone.

Realistically, Mae's team invested heavily in her Eurovision participation, hoping to boost her career after the contest. Her album sales were destined to be low. Her fanbase is small, her tour was cancelled and her signing venues were downsized. The British public embraces success, as evidenced by Sam Ryder and the Women's World Cup, but they perceive Mae to have let the country down. The success of Sam may have lured Mae's team, but they should have been more realistic after she finished 25th. The label's marketing costs will surely exceed her album sales.

It wasn’t a criticism, but that’s done now. She might not have a fanbase for further signings, but other artists such as The Sherlocks and The Reytons did pop-up stores, Raye had her setup outside Polydor, Sam Ryder spent his free time busking, and Cian Ducrot walked around with a billboard, all encouraging people to buy or download their album. Mae has imagination and could try something similar to generate more buzz and connect with the general public. She may not be a contender for the top five, but any extra sales will make a significant difference to her final chart position.
