Sam Ryder - Mountain
According to Warner Music UK he is releasing “Mountain” on May 5th. It’s a bad decision imo but ok.

I prefer Molly's song to Lucie's even though she got a lower result but I wouldn't have guessed she was predicted to score well in the first place. SAM IS KING HE HAD THE AUDIENCE SINGING ALONG :funky:

BONNIE TYLER SAID ON THE RADIO SHE ONLY DID EUROVISION BECAUSE SHE WAS WORRIED THE RADIO WOULDN'T PLAY HER NEW ALBUM??? :arrr: All the UK entries have been terrible from 2012 - 2021 for various (multiple) reasons. The best one I would say is You're Not Alone by Joe + Jake because the instrumental had more life which the other UK entries have lacked. It was co-written by a guy from The Wanted? Tattoo will steal the title for the highest UK chart entry this year. Space Man is superior and I won't accept any slander plus KING Sam has more stage presence in his big toe than all the artists from 2012 - 2021 put together.

United Kingdom · Eurovision Song Contest 2023
I dont agree it’s the best song the UK have sent to Eurovision because it won’t be anywhere near as successful at the competition as Space Man. It remains to be seen whether it’ll sustain the streaming numbers and the result will influence the post-contest success.

The video is great but are phrases like “cuss you out” really going to translate? It comes across as a Brit-friendly chart hit in the UK not a Eurovision smash across countries that aren’t the UK.

United Kingdom · Eurovision Song Contest 2023
Yes but it was the big Spanish fandom that put her top of the Fan Scoreboard and voted her to the top of the ESC 250. Countries that had bops such as Austria, France and Albania were the top 10 and they all did terrible. Neither Spain nor the UK were fan favourites until rehearsals and other objective measures are a better indicator. Fans said Space Man would come bottom 5 as he was a beige man when the other measures said he would do well because the song wasn't typical chart music, it was vocally challenging and his background meant he was a great reliable performer.

Most of Mae's listeners are for her viral dance track and Sigala's dance track has increased that number over the last few days. In comparison Alessandra's listeners are all for her Eurovision song.

Yes the Fan Scorboard is completely biased and is based on people voting for their own country to some extent and they will always favour female pop songs into rehearsals when they are predicted to flop. Last year Spainiards managed to get Chanel to #1 after she won Benidorm Fest. I think 17th - 25th is the ceiling based on the studio version.

United Kingdom · Eurovision Song Contest 2023
Nope. This song isn't good enough in it's current form and she will need to change it up and SELL IT without it coming across as cringe or (respectfully) it is a candidate for bottom 3. The studio version is bang average and for the topic she is singing about there is no sass to it whatsoever. Not much jury or public vote appeal.

United Kingdom · Eurovision Song Contest 2023
The BBC wanted to win last year. Space Man was praised by most people except for the UK fans and his chance of winning got better over the rehearsal period to the point he was considered a contender to snatch victory from Ukraine with a very high jury score. A lot of that was down to Sam and Parlophone really wanting to use Eurovision as a platform. The song was perfect for the contest and Sam was the perfect person to perform it.

Absolute lyrical POE-try! References are off the charts! The "Zero dot zero zero three" being a reference on how much a stream pays on streaming services was GENIUS! And it’s a high-key BOP!

Yep. I can't visualise the staging at all for I Wrote A Song and it sounds really autotuned to the point I don't know how she would sound on stage. The "Da da da da da di, da da da da da di, da da da da da di" might be catchy but it will not score points.

A country can put 110% effort in and not win because nothing is guaranteed but IMO the BBC need to show they're taking it seriously for a second year. Don't forget that TaP Music managed the careers of, amongst others: Dua Lipa, Mabel, London Grammar, Dermot Kennedy, Ellie Goulding and Caroline Polachek. These same people saw the potential in Sam Ryder and believed in him 100% and had to convince a lot of people in the music industry that Eurovision was a good platform for him. What do people think a "respectable entry/result" is because I have watched the contest for a long time and all I am hearing from that song clip is bottom 5.

United Kingdom · Eurovision Song Contest 2023
Not really and the UK is at a disadvantage compared to countries like Norway and Sweden. Anyone who has watched ESC for a while knows this song will do badly. Thought the BBC wanted to win. In the past the UK fans have gaslighted themselves believing the entries were good when they were bland and forgettable and you could predict the outcome. I'm not actually against Mae Muller per se (she is a perfectly competent if unremarkable live vocalist), but THAT clip/song thats doing that rounds is POO. I hope this song is a SICK JOKE as it should be called “I WROTE A BOTTOM 5 SONG”. I’m cautiously optimistic that TaP wouldn’t choose a song like that though. Ooft cannot wait for the press reaction it’s going to be JUICY.

This is hopeless and if it is true it's frustrating for everyone including Sam Ryder that the BBC have allowed this to happen. @1632470939131600896

United Kingdom · Eurovision Song Contest 2023
My honest opinion about that Mae Muller song in the TikTok video she posted is it's extremely cringe and she is one kebab away from looking like she's on a night out. It's her account and she can have fun but the song is extremely basic and reminds me of Love Island. The song is fine for pre-drinks with your friends and going out. She even named it "this is one for the girlies". As Rob said, it feels like the song is made for TikTok and I'm not sure the BBC would want Mae posting the BBC video (which someone debunked was recorded early last month and is out) with the song attached unless that's their strategy this year. The snippet doesn't seem to have universal appeal as Space Man did and TAP/BBC said they want us to support the song for the contest and beyond. There are repeated mentions of Eurovision being "a great platform for a new artist" and "a great opportunity for us to celebrate our diverse music scene in the UK" by the BBC/TAP in the 2023 press releases. I can't get my head around that of all the possible options from artists wanting to follow in Sam's footsteps that it would be chosen song.
