Firstly, what an incredible site this is, it's a pleasure to be involved with real music lovers and I look forward to getting involved in this community :)
I've been a solo artist and singer/songwriter for best part of 8 years. I've been mostly playing live all over the world and as of mid February I'm heading into the studio, with my band for a month to record an adult contemporary pop album. Think John Mayer / Jeff Buckley / Jason Mraz / James Morrison
This will be the first album I've recorded to a decent standard (i.e. not with my laptop and basic studio equipment), and there's a great producer on board as well as a great lineup of musicians. As of the time of recording, there is no label involved and this whole operation has been self financed via the money from gigging and touring.
The reason I'm on here is because there seems to be a great wealth of knowledge from people within the industry as well as online media bloggers, PR etc and I wondered if over the last few years of rapid change within the industry, if you have seen a great way to market a record without the oomph and resources of a big label.
I'm aware of the importance of social media, PR and most importantly, awesome music.... I guess what I'm getting at, is there, in your opinion, a formula to constructing an album launch which is capable of getting noticed to the extent of getting it in the charts.
I'm looking forward to the ideas put forward in this discussion
Cheers
