iTunes Chart: October 2011 (II)
With respect, please give it a rest torresgirl, your perpetual defending of Joe's covers albums at the expense of other artists is getting annoying in the extreme  I hope Matt does go on to do well. I don't think he will set the music world alight, but good for him for releasing his own music. Shame about the single, Gary Barlow by numbers track. I guess he was coerced into releasing that!

Sunday Chart Predictions
Disclaimer, apologies in advance, please don't read if you are fed up with this debate :) Has anyone actually slagged Joe off in this thread? It's makes me laugh that if anyone even hints anything that's not 100% positive and raving about Joe's success, there is an immediate retort. Allowing people their opinions runs both ways. Joe is a great guy, have said it before. However, he is simply not credible in many people's eyes as yet. For many people credibility involves having more creative input and songwriting abilities than Joe has yet shown. OK, for some that isn't necessary and that's fine too! He may become credible in all people's eyes, and I hope he does, but it's a fact that you have to earn credibility in the music industry, especially when you come from a TV show (or two!), and then put out an album of covers off the back of one of them, albeit well sung ones. I know people want to drop the comparison thing, but there seems to be an implication that Will is doing poorly in comparison to Joe. In fact his album is selling better than his last studio album at 5 weeks, and even more than Keep On, which went on to sell over a million. It is already at no. 33 in the year to date chart. Fans are really happy with his success with it so far. He's only on single no. 1, which is still well inside the top 20 today. He will have 2-4 more singles he can release as time goes on, it's very early days! He may have dropped a few older fans with his new sound, but he seems to have gained some younger fans, so that's all fine. I really will try and shut up now :P  PS, I'm really please Nicola is doing well. Strange she released such an odd single??

Thanks for the update. Could you please include Will's Echoes in the albums updates, thanks.

James Morrison · 'The Awakening' (Third Album)
Anyone know what sort of sales James is on course for this week? I really like his new single, although it's no You Give Me Something.

Sunday Chart Predictions
I'm not a huge charts watcher, if I'm honest. Most of the artists I like don't get near the charts these days. Will is the exception and I do like to follow his chart progress, so tune into Buzzjack at relevant times. I hope that's ok with others on here. I really appreciate all the information people bring to these forums, so thanks!

Sunday Chart Predictions
Joe doing well doesn't bother me at all. He's a lovely guy, and I'm glad he's doing well. His album isn't my cup of tea, but obviously appeals to many. What I do find slightly irritating is someone joining a forum with a very narrow and very obvious agenda

Actually Joe hasn't sold as well as Will to date, he's several thousand behind at the moment, but don't that let that stop you, I'm sure it won't!

Album Clash: Joe McElderry or Will Young?
Although I of course, agree, when I started this thread, I really thought Joe would sell in bucketloads, and much more than Will. Joe was very popular from the recent PSTOS, with millions of votes, and he impressed the public with his very nice singing voice and persona. The tracklisting is predictable but full of tested favourites. I wasn't thinking of 'deserving' but of sales, which sadly don't always follow the 'deserving' albums, that's the way of the world :D I was concerned about Will's return, given his previous original release, especially the singles, showed a significant decline in sales. However, as it turns out, both Jealousy and Echoes are doing well. I'm happy for both of them. I just think that Joe may have blown his chances of ever being seen as a creative artist, as this release may have bought him sales, but lost him credibility.

Sunday Chart Predictions
Universal are not the brilliant and benevalent record company some Joe fans think it is. What they have done is capitalised on his opera programme by rushing out an album of overdone safe covers. It was hardly a risk! It must have only cost a few thousand to record! Joe has a good voice, and had a high profile as winner of that show, and happens to be a lovely young man. However what Universal have also done is ruin his chances of ever having a chance at being a pop star, which he himself has said is what he really wanted. They have rebranded him as a young Michael Ball type singer. I don't think he will recover from it and emerge as a creative artist. He may make a few more bucks selling similar type of albums at Mother's Day etc, but I worry this won't make him particularly fulfilled. At least Syco allowed Joe to put out an album which was a bit risky, and had some original songs, and actually, it was quite good. It's a shame they didn't persevere and nurture his pop music, rather than drop him like a brick. However, Universal are just as exploitative, if not more so, as what they have done will probably proove even more destructive to Joe in the long term. It's a shame Joe didn't do a Leon, and go off and make music he wants to make. OK, the fame and fortune would take a back seat, but maybe he would be happier in the long term.

Of course Jealousy is a singer/songwriter song. Will wrote it and sings it! Maybe the over saturation by the females is coming to an end, which in my view would be refreshing!

Sunday Chart Predictions
Pleased to see Will sticking around the top 10 of the album chart, and the single chart. Lots of new releases since Echoes came out too. I expext Joe to drop quite a lot over the next few weeks, and pick up again as Christmas sales kick in. It's that sort of 'what shall I get Gran?' album :)

Will sang Hearts on Fire on Jonathan Ross, and it's a great song. It made the album go back up into the top 10 (6now I think?) on the itunes chart. Great that people have sought it out :)

I'm surprised James Morrison's new song isn't higher, it's getting great radio play

Well, he's not going to sing jealousy, so I doubt it will impact on the single. He's going to sing an album track, Hearts on Fire, which I love, but took a few listens. I'm surprised they didn't go with Silent Valentine, which is much more instant. Maybe they want to keep that a secret for the moment though.

I didn't either. Will more or less accepted it too, saying he was more of an album seller, and his record company single release strategy showed little faith in his ability to sell singles as well. So pleased for him that he has done so well with Jealousy. He deserves all the success he gets.

Haven't heard the duet yet, but will download it. Great to see Will back up to no. 12 with Jealousy, and also Leave Right Now making a new appearance at 123. I like the 59p singles offer on itunes.

YTD Airplay + Airplay Mids
I don't think Collide is very radio friendly. It takes forever to get going, and has no melodic charm to it whatsoever. That's why airplay is low. It's nothing to do with her coming from XF, otherwise Olly wouldn't be at number 1! Really amazed and pleased that Will is top 5 in airplay and rising, all without the help of radio 1 and capital. I hope it continues :)

iTunes Chart: September (II)
Will is no. 12 now :) I guess his rise from 18 last time I looked is due to the better airplay, he's not done any further promotion.

Radio 1 Playlist (07/09/11)
Yeah, good point. Not all artists on radio one have had big hits though.

Will Young - Echoes
Haven't you got a copy yet?

Radio 1 Playlist (07/09/11)
Can anyone tell me why James Morrison automatically gets A listed on radio one AND two, along with numerous commercial radio stations, when Will Young has to fight for radio play beyond radio 2? I would say Jealousy is much more radio one material than James's new and somewhat dull song is. For the record I also think James song rips off 'Why' by Annie Lennox.
