Strangely appropriate song title! Lots of big names being ignored then

I love Will and think he's incredibly talented as a singer and an actor, but I had to laugh at this post. I don't hate Leona, but I do think she's incredibly over-rated. It's sad that already she seems to have peaked and is on a downward slide. That's the danger with such a huge initial success, it's not always a good thing. Some of her fans however seem incredibly in denial. They are celebrating a no. 14 for a second single off a second album. The album sales are pretty static, which is what the record company will fret over most. And before I get told off for a Will and Leona post, this is my first and last word on it, I felt it needed saying, right! :P (edit to apologise for all the 'incredibly's)

The loyalty of Radio 2 is amazing. Poor Bev Knight releases flop after flop, but they A list her regardless. Radio 1, on the other hand would sell their collective soul to be seen to be 'cool' by the 'kids'.
  4. I really prefer I got you to Outta my head, which I think is generic, derivative and a luke warm attempt at being a bit more 'rock'. Still, we all have our different tastes :D I got you has a great chorus, I find myself singing along.

Yeah but, the reality show acts get playlisted when they are arguably, still puppets. Once, or I should say, if, they become genuine and unique artists and worked hard for their careers, then they get dropped! (Unless they are Girls Aloud!) It should be the other way round. Radio one were all over Leona last year, and are now all over JLS. Nah, I just think they care about popularity, they don't trust in new music, nor do they exude any kind of musical integrity, IMO.

Yeah, they did the same to Will Young too, and no doubt will not play his stuff again, unless he perhaps duets with one of their favs  The exception is Shakira though, they stopped playing her music, then she got a number one without them. They are now playlisting her I believe. Looks like Leona is rapidly losing their support and is next for the chop. It makes me fume actually, just because artists have been around a few years, they suddenly become uncool, (unless your name is Robbie or Kylie!).
  7. Thanks Dave, I agree, as someone in that group I find radio 1 juvenile, and radio 2 fogey-ish. I oscillate between them though, as I hate commercial radio :(
  8. So what main radio station is supposed to be catering for the 26-50 age group then? Radio 1, for teens to 25, and radio 2 for 50 plus??? I thought radio 2 was for over 25s?? Sorry to go OT, but I'm puzzled  Thanks for the info Dave, interesting read as usual.
  9. I'm really impressed with Lemar's climb :D He's been snubbed by radio one and two, and I couldn't see him in the top 50 airplay chart at all! Hope he continues to stay in a high position. On the other hand, Leona is no. 10 in airplay, but nowhere near the top 40 as yet :o
  10. Sadly I'd expect Lemar to climb to top 40 and then start to drop. I'd be surprised if he goes top 20 by the next sunday tbh. Unless he has some TV lined up? As for Leona, I can't believe she's dropping down the chart, when her video is now finally out
  11. I do agree on your comments on the 'song' chart Dave, and the demographic of downloaders. I think album charts are where musical interest is really focussed in the general population. By the way, surely there are several faster/higher sellers this century than the Haiti single? As a Will Young fan, I get a little annoyed that his record of 1.1m physical sales in one week seems to get 'forgotten'. I'm sure there must be others too?

Lemar isn't listed on radio one or two :o

I don't get radio one, one minute they love an artist, the next they drop them like a ton of bricks  They've given some artists playlisting for their entire careers, Robbie, Kylie, Sugababes etc, despite their glitches and age. Others like Shakira, Will Young, and now Leona and Lemar struggle to get airplay with them. I don't understand their criteria. I know they are trying to attract a younger audience, but I hardly think Robbie fits that criteria these days???

Thanks for your objective view :P I just think there's quite a few females who sound similar to Leona at the moment, but only one Will sounding voice. We'll agree to differ :) Don't want to hijack the thread, so that's my last word.

I think Will's voice is far more of a USP than Leona's. :) Amyway, it looks like EH it going great guns. It's not a personal favourite, and I've given more directly to the cause, but if it raises more money, all to the good!

No, it's 108 at the moment.

    That would explain it

Should Leona be worried? 107  What about Lemar? Is he in the chart yet?
  19. fatmuffin posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
    OK thanks, but why???

I don't even know what the 'campaign' is
  21. I know it seems ridiculous, I was just trying to make sense of it. I didn't realise Spirit was in the sales, so thanks, that explains it much better!
  22. Thanks, I always read this thread Do you have album info as well?
  23. Has it happened before, that an artist promoting a new studio album, finds the first one rising above it in the album chart???? I don't get it. Why aren't Leona fans buying her new album? Answering my own question, I wonder if it's simply to do with the album cover for Echo, which tries to portray her as some sort of sexy siren, which is just the wrong image for her. People see her or hear her around, but prefer the more 'leona' type of album cover on Spirit, so buy that.
