  1. I think she has. I really hope she gets it right, which I think she might just (Kevin Liles wouldn't be wasting his time and money would he?). So much love for that girl and her talent. I do wonder...if she DOES have success there, as in 2 top 20 hits and a hit album, could we see UK media being all nicey nice to her. I mean DM alone with the 'the only Brit at the event' for the Apollo Gig, like most British acts know how to properly network in US, hell, in black American circles...

I think that was part of her problem, the success level. Leona being a WW superstar made people take her seriously, whether they wanted to or not. Alex lacked that (hopefully not for long). And many see Alex in Leona's shadow. If the tables turn, that's not really an excuse anymore and so imo, most of her detractors (as long as the music's right, her styling and her tv persona (ie Chill the F out girl!) are right too) would be silenced.

It's sad she had to leave her own country to actually get the support network an act of her calibre deserves (talent and potential wise). Shame...(Same for Leona and many others).

  2. I think she's working on an EP/mixtape which is great. This new sound will be a shock to some (who a) wrote her off (and understandably so) b) didn't expect to like anything she'll ever do because it came from her. I hope she sings some songs on Jools Holland from it too (he seems to like her) as long as it's really good enough.

Also it'll be live instrumentation led, so it'll be 'real sounding' stuff, sorry to say that in that way. She's vocally diverse enough to actually make this transition work and has enough charisma to pull it off too. I'm so glad she's in black American hands. She does belong there, they'll do right by her, which wouldn't really happen here tbh. She'd have to do everything herself sadly.

I hope her new album comes out in late March 2014, with a late December single premiere and radio adds in early January. Or it may even be out here before that! If she does enough UK promo with her new team, she can get a good peak and good first week sales, so long as she remembers to SELL THE ALBUM THROUGH THE MUSIC, which they didn't do previously, sadly despite her cross appeal and talent. Radio 2 needs to be targeted here too, and sweeting up radio 1 and Capital (Capital with ££ and ensuring she does their little summer and winter gigs etc) bosses.

People imo did want to like her, but the music let a LOT of people down, and so they don't have much respect for her. Adele, Amy and Florence have respect because like their music or not, they put their all into it and it's good throughout. Overcome was a great start, the follow up not so much.

Glad this new record is vocally led. She never gets enough credit for her voice weirdly. People act like she can't even sing lol.

  3. I agree with this. OK, the press mocked her a bit for the "OK.com" thing, but I always thought that mocking was pretty lighthearted. People are saying in this thread she's been "demonised", but I've really never got the sense people dislike her as a person.

Thanks SceneofSIXCrimes! She's new there. Cher Lloyd had a good reception over there after a lukewarm-hostile one here. Danny I know many who have many issues with her as a person. I rarely hear good things about her from the GP. That unfortunately says something. Even during Overcome I remember people being shocked she'd sold 4m records when she was on X Factor, as if she was bound to flop lol.

  4. The problem is that Alexandra Burke is a bigger artist than Jay Sean, so it would be harder for her to come back from a well-publicised failure.

It's rather simple. I dont get why it's so hard to comprehend. Just dont fail. Alex is far disrespected than Jay Sean ever was. If she was hospitalized peoplewuld probably laugh. It can't get much worse for her here, people really dislike her. Thats why she's over there. She needs the right music and to dye her hair black again. I love those curls on her! 2008 vibes!

  5. Completely? No. She may somehow get her hands on some decent material, score a hit or two in the UK, and then turn her attention to the US. But to think she might break the US before she fixes the UK situation is complete insanity. Pure delusion.

She has to make a start over there first. She's known here, and it takes an age to start anything up over there. It's necessary. Especially due to XF, she needs this. It's the only how they'll really take her seriously. She's seen as a joke here. People can't stand her. Why try again here, it makes no sense? A platinum US single and a good placing on the Billboard 200 would make the media perk up here. They did it for Leona, Amy, Adele, Florence, and even Little Mix and to an extent The Saturdays, and not forgetting One Direction.

Also she needs to really commercially step out of Leona's shadow in total sales. That's also part of the issue. I know so many who dismiss her simply because Leona had a lot of success and it was well publicised.

  6. I honestly fail to see how she could make it in the US when she can't make it here anymore, I do think she'd have stood a chance in early 2010 or so if they'd launched 'Bad Boys' or 'All Night Long' over there but certainly not now.

I like the girl and everything, but be realistic.

Because the UK isn't the centre of the music industry simply put. She wouldn't be there if they didn't see anything in her would she? Kevin Liles is a very busy man. Alex had more success than Estelle and she was signed up with his management company who got her a deal. Alex can do the same, she's got more potential and has cross-over appeal, and has that VOICE. The US is different to here, it doesn't have a focus on personality, rather music and if you can do the job imo.

It's like saying you can't make it in whatever field because you have no big success prior to applying for a job. Everyone's got to start somewhere. She is still very young and has talent. She flopped hard due to bad material (heavily influenced by funding issues and radio airplay issues). Take her out of the place where she has problems and try elsewhere.

I can't see how America, in particular black America would find it hard to like/warm to her with a voice like hers. As long as her music and promotion is on point, she'll be fine. Her talent speaks for itself during her live performances.

We'll see, she's proven many people wrong before. I'm looking at what she's doing and who she's hanging with. The company is very good company to be having. The past is the past, in the US she's a nobody - no X Factor tag, no arrogant media claims, nothing. A fresh slate.

  7. I liked some of her songs from her first album and even the singles from the second but can't see Alexandra making a comeback now.

You never know. Her biggest issue was her personality and the music. Fix both and you're good. I always knew that her not being big globally would get her, the UK is fickle and a fast moving place. Leona's global success alllowed her to actually have a place in the industry and to be respected some what. Anywho, she's singing alongside many black music icons today in the USA for Chaka Khan and her performance has been choreographed by Jaquel Knight (he's Beyonce's and Kesha's choreographer). She's also been recording her 3rd album for quite some time too, and is managed by Kevin Liles in the US (he made Jay Z and Kanye).

Always remember the UK isn't the only country in the world and there's a lot Alex hasn't done yet. She's 24 and has a heck of a lot of potential, not to mention she's getting close to her vocal peak and she can take advantage of that. It was obvious she had issues here for a long time. Best to leave and try elsewhere.

If (which has already begun to happen) her image improves (also a budget thing) and she remembers to be humble on TV and not annoy people, I think she can comeback.

It's sad but we only really appreciate our acts here when they have global success or at least US success. It's even worse for Alex here too as a darker skinned female act (we don't have many at all here point blank) and her music not being r&b/pop, just straight up pop. I long to hear her sing some soul again, as that's what made me prefer her over Leona vocally, I felt what Alex sang. It's what sold 21 and Back To Black alongside the music, promotion and lyrics. Even if she's never big here again, I'd rather she be a big hit with audiences state-side, she's got far more opportunities there.

  8. It's doing good on radio. It's risen like 500 places in less than a week. From premiere around 1900 or so to around 100 and something 3 weeks from release.

  9. TV helps more you know. It kept elephant afloat when radio pulled out. Lots of young teens watch music tv. VEvo works too obvz. I wouldn't say the video was cheap, those dancers cost serious money. Also she spent a lot on recording and has an international launch to think of, that costs big money for singles and radio pushes.
  10. Her beef? I don't think she has any? She's said they've always supported her. Capital aren't interested in her, even Mark Findlay saying 'there's an elephant in the room' at playlist meetings and posting a pic of an elephant in the room is clearly shade. He was being pathetic. They obviously want nothing to do with her, they acted like she doesn't exist, and have done the same for 1D too. She has new material out, but they're all on about Cheryl, the saturdays etc, who a few months ago (when elephant premiered) had no new material confirmed, it was just rumours at the time. They only played her because she charted highly.
  11. Apparently R1 are adding it, they've played it more than Elephant at this stage in the promo trail. And someone said on youtube (it could be fake of course) that they are adding it this week. Maybe they've seen that the ball is in their court now that Capital are being shady. Anywho.... :yahoo: I hope it's #1 for her. And how on earth is it like a deja vu moment...Alex and Cheryl releasing within 2 weeks of each other....

If there's not going to be a big gap between the single premiere and the video, then I think the song will premiere quite a bit later than April 10th because I don't think Alex has even filmed the video yet and surely it'll take more than a week to edit it and send it to music channels.

She's in rehearsals for it, and the vid has its shoot this week IIRC. Anyway, as long as it's hot it should be okay. And they stop this airplay vendetta against her....SMDH, you KNOW they'll be here for Cheryl like vultures to a corpse

  13. I can see what you mean (if Radio 1 dropped the vendetta it would've cruised to no.1 admittedly) but I still think the fanbase she has and considerable TV play should've got her there, especially on a fairly quiet week, but alas we know it didn't.

They should leave it 2/3 weeks to premiere Let It Go, that would be perfect timing.

They are. Her brother just said on Twitter that the song will premiere around the 10th of April alongside the video. He said there will be no big gap between the video and the single premiere, the impromptu radio shit was accidental. That HITS DJ messed it all up, and I think that annoyed Capital and they snubbed her, same way they did to One Direction. All the fans were requesting it and they were ignoring them, and they ignored her so much that she wasn't even on the albums of 2012 to look forward to. But they had the Saturdays and Cheryl on there who at the time didn't even have confirmed releases.

  14. Is ther going to be two or three single before the album this time?

I pray 2. I don't want 3, it'll be too much IMO, unless they plan to release 7 singles overall. Single 2 should be out in early June, with the album in mid june, and single 3 in early september and for her to promote it on XF. Just to show HOW good she is...The Silence XF semi final 2010 anyone? showed them all up as amateurs....lmao...Rebecca as the voice of a generation...Just NO.
