Still, good to see the panel come up with a 100% English list there :P

Mercury Prize 2016
Aren't The 1975 just the bland indie nomination for people who like stuff like The Courteeners? Surely they aren't really in the running?

Buzzjack's Alternative Songs of the 1990s
Rank I hope! I spent quite a while getting them in order :) The Stone Roses first label Silvertone released several singles throughout the 90s without the band's cooperation, so I think all of those count. The same would be true of Sheriff Fatman by Carter (released in 1989 but a hit in 1991) and Shine On by The House of Love (originally out in 1987 on Creation and re-released on Fontana at the VERY END of 1989 I think, but sneaked into the charts in 1990)

Buzzjack's Alternative Songs of the 1990s
It's that fine line, isn't it? I was thinking about this after I posted - and there's not really any difference in the level of pop between the New Radicals and the Mock Turtles...I guess it's more the attitude. The Mock Turtles (and Divine Comedy for that matter) seem far more introverted, understated and "indie" while the New Radicals might as well have said "Hey! Here's some brash, aggressively optimistic stuff for people to shout along to and, by the way, queue here to licence it for your adverts* and give us all your money." Anyway, the votes will out. I don't see any of the ones I mentioned winning this. * - Yes, I do know the Mock Turtles had a big hit with this again after it was in an advert!

Wow - kudos for whoever nominated Back to the Planet and Catherine Wheel. And none for whoever nominated The Connells, New Radicals and Spin Doctors - not really alternative are they?

Massive Attack 'The Spoils' / 'Come With Me'
It's pretty good, isn't it? As far as chart action goes, practically all alternative artists might as well forget that forever - I wonder if there'd be any way of creating an official alternative / indie chart? Not easy to define though as one person's alternative is another's mainstream. The record shop chart was a good attempt, but it obviously doesn't take streaming into account.

I sent some yesterday - a lot were complete guesses. I suspect I'll score maximum on more than half of them.

Greatest UK Sitcoms • VOTING
Would have given points to loads more, also dropped Little Britain and League of Gentlemen as I don't think they're sitcoms - recurring characters, yes, but not complete 30 minute stories with one group in one situation. +20 Blackadder +19 Man About the House +18 Fawlty Towers +17 Father Ted +16 The Young Ones +15 I'm Alan Partridge +14 Spaced +13 Only Fools and Horses +12 Porridge +11 The Thick of It +10 The Office +09 Black Books +08 Allo 'Allo! +07 Dad's Army +06 Friday Night Dinner +05 Steptoe & Son +04 Extras +03 The IT Crowd +02 Phoenix Nights +01 The Vicar of Dibley

Mercury Prize 2016
Was going to suggest Emma Pollock but, yeah, Anna Meredith might be flying the flag / ticking the box for Scottish female artists...that's if Anna isn't black-listed due to precious Bowie "fans" crying about her arrangements of Life on Mars and Starman at the prom. I'd love to see Malcolm Middleton get a nod and I'd love to see Adele (quite rightly) ignored.

Things that you are tired of seeing in sport
I actually cheered when Higuain signed for Juventus this week - finally he'll stop being linked with every club under the sun by lazy journalists. Now, if only the same can happen for Karim Benzema. I see Rory McIlroy's poor showing in the USPGA was far more newsworthy than any other player in the tournament.

CHART CONCEPT
It was only around 1991/92 (?) that the chart show moved up to 3 hours and they could play the whole of the top 40, before that they missed some of them out or cut some short I think. I don't think they could play the whole top 40 now, it'd be practically the same show every week. Maybe the chart needs to be the focus of one hour on a Friday evening playing new entries, climbers and the number one with another hour devoted to new releases which could make it into the charts the following week* * - Ideally this would be at the DJ's discretion not the playlist panel / whoever gave the best pay-ola.

Top of the Pops on BBC4
Kinda surprised to see that Party Fears Two only got to number 9 - if I'd been a record buyer back then (I was only 5) then I'd have been straight out to buy it after seeing it on TOTP. Pleased to see the Tight Fit video, it's one of my favourites for over the top, jungle-based stupidity.

Friday Night Dinner
Six episodes per series is a UK comedy standard - it (usually) keeps the quality up. That said, sometimes they're over so damn quickly!

Pleased my nomination got to number 2 - that hardly ever happens here. Never heard of number 1 - that often happens here! :D

Top of the Pops on BBC4
It would have been had it been a new release but it was a cash-in from his old label and "flopped" due it being either more raw than what the new Antpeople were into or because the label didn't have the same distribution power.

Buzzjack's Alternative Songs of the 1990s
I guess you could offer up to 100. It'd always be 100 points for number 1, but if somebody only did 50 then their last choice would score 51.
