  1. Pleased my nomination got to number 2 - that hardly ever happens here. Never heard of number 1 - that often happens here! :D

It would have been had it been a new release but it was a cash-in from his old label and "flopped" due it being either more raw than what the new Antpeople were into or because the label didn't have the same distribution power.
  3. I guess you could offer up to 100. It'd always be 100 points for number 1, but if somebody only did 50 then their last choice would score 51.
  4. I'm in Love is brilliant - I'm really excited for the new album and looking forward to seeing them at the Barrowlands in December.
  5. Sorry, new to the film club. Is everyone supposed to watch it at the same time? Grave of the Fireflies is one of the few Ghibli films I haven't seen and I think we've got it on our box from the Film4 season a year or so ago. Trouble is, 8pm on Monday is University Challenge / Only Connect time. But I could watch it on Sunday and comment on Monday?
  6. Great to see Chapterhouse, Daisy Chainsaw and Sugar nominated - I had to eliminate them from my long list.
  7. I loved reading the BFG when it came out 30 years ago and I thought the film was fantastic. Mark Rylance is brilliant as the BFG and the girl playing Sophie is excellent too. I was a little annoyed that Bloodbottler had his bits replaced by Fleshlumpeater, but it worked well. The section at the palace was always my favourite part of the book and it was done brilliantly. Reminded me a little of Paddington.

First episode was very good. Jason Watkins as a guest star was a bit of a treat.

I still think the music video for a nursery rhyme task was best of the series. Can't wait for series 3!

Had also heard people saying the Ricky Gervais character is a waste of Spencer Jones - and it is...but then, he's so bizarre on stage that it's maybe good that he gets reeled in a little. Very pleased to hear that a second series is coming :D

  18. Jeez - I could give you well over a hundred and still want to nominate more. Luckily some of my faves have been added already (although not very many) Had to also restrict myself to one record per artist to give you these...in some cases it's not my favourite by a band, but one that some of you might know better...otherwise it'll only be me who votes for it. 808 State - Cubik Aphex Twin - Analogue Bubblebath I Arab Strap - The First Big Weekend Ash - Kung Fu The Beta Band - Dry the Rain The Boo Radleys - Lazarus Carter USM - Sheriff Fatman (originally released in late 1989 but a hit in 1991) The Charlatans - Weirdo England New Order - World in Motion The Farm - Groovy Train Flowered Up - Weekender Gary Clail On-U Sound System - Human Nature Inspiral Carpets - This is How it Feels Jesus Jones - Real Real Real The KLF - What Time is Love? I think a little compensation for the uncertainty at Sunderland would go a long way. But really, the best way to repay the players at the Stadium of Light is for the England manager to occasionally watch the likes of Lee Cattermole who should have played for England by now (and would have if he'd been signed by Liverpool or Spurs) - maybe Big Sam will do that. Anyway, very happy with David Moyes and hopefully there's time to get a few new signings in and bedded in before the new season starts.
  20. Seems pretty linear to me - and what more closure is needed? It's all the darker for Stromboli, the Coach Man, Honest John and Gideon continuing their dark ways beyond the end of the film. They're all there to tempt other little boys. That's one of the best things about it - evil isn't punished by being vanquished for good, it's punished by Pinocchio rising above them and becoming real.
  21. No, but the other half might have :D
  22. It's a shitty situation this - effectively two different parties masquerading as one in order to get a private election of the next government. If May wins then it'll be business as usual, if Leadsome wins then there'll be a mass cabinet clearout and a hard switch to the right. And something like 0.2% of the population get to decide by dint of being members of some overarching thing called the Conservative party (one that currently houses two very distinct parties if you ask me) If we do go far right, then expect Leadsome to gleefully press the Brexit button and start removing all the rights of workers so that "poor" business leaders don't have to keep worry about paid holidays, sick pay, maternity leave, paternity leave, pensions etc. It's almost as if the whole last year and a half were planned meticulously....
  23. Ours was a different performance (somewhere else on Youtube) but very similar.

  25. I was kidding. Bagpuss may not be high-octane thrills, but it's one of the nation's favourites of all time. I guess we like life slow sometimes.
