  1. For me, the next step is to leave England and Wales to it. If anybody wants to talk about a lack of democracy then it's the way a handful of marginal seats in England seem to be swaying the balance for all. I'd never been in favour of Scottish independence until 2014 but couldn't see anything other than Tory rule being the norm, especially with a reduction in the number of seats and a redrawing of constituency borders. I might change my mind if both the Labour and Tory party split into the clear factions they are and a more proportional system of representation were brought in, but that isn't going to happen and we'd still have to deal with this awful result that the referendum gave us.

It was a little Scooby Doo-ish.

THIS! As I said a few days ago, I couldn't believe how disrespectful they were. As it goes, it's probably not England's worst result - the USA one in 1950 was almost certainly worse and Norway in 1981. ...and at least you haven't ever had to fight back to draw with the Faroe Islands unlike some nations I could mention.
  4. Thanks to all who've entered so far!
  5. One is proving a bit difficult, but there are actually loads and loads of easy answers once you know what we're looking for. But otherwise, yeah, I'd say it's subjective. I didn't enter Regina's one a while back as I wouldn't have been able to give a single correct answer (but hopefully different folks' knowledge will level this out - which was kinda the point). For the record, there's also one in there that I wouldn't be able to give an answer for - but that's where guesses come in :)
  6. Cheers - this is just an experiment. I know a lot of people like that element of it...but you can still do it if you know multiple possible answers.
  7. After the success of UltraMichael's co-hosted FF game a few weeks ago, I've got together with Princess Lotti to bring you a Pointless game with a difference. The rules: * The standard Pointless rule - You should try to come up with an answer that is both correct and one you think fewer people will have answered. * If nobody else shares your correct answer you will be rewarded with a score of zero. If anyone agrees you will gain a point for each player who agrees with yours. * If your answer is wrong you will score the maximum i.e. the total number of players * The difference - YOU MUST NOT USE GOOGLE, BING, WIKIPEDIA, THE CHILDREN'S ALL COLOUR BOOK OF FACTS 1974 or even ASK YOUR DOG. Answers must be given from your brain, from what you already know. You could cheat, you could look something up even to check if your brain was right, but ask yourself whether you can live with such a hollow victory?! * Seriously, try to give this a go, we reckon it'll be fun and normal game service will be resumed with the next one. Answer the questions and PM me (Richie) or Lotti (princess_lotti) - we'll be adding them to a masterlist as we go. You have until the end of Friday 1st July to get your answers in. We'll post the answers and final scores on the 2nd. I won't tell you which questions came from me and which from Lotti but hopefully everybody will be able to come up with a guess for each of those. 1. Name any movie directed by Stanley Kubrick 2. 10. BBC although Channel 4 is worth a watch. I like the BBC4 World News programme too.
  11. Is it the same Cloud 9 that Edwin Starr recorded? Yeah, that's a belter!
  12. 52-48 to Remain but with at least 80% turning out. The Scottish referendum had nearly 85% and the buzz to get registered in the run up to this feels the same.

So, are we allowed to nominate British TV duos? If so, I'll scrap mine as it's pretty unlikely any of them would be in my nominations.

ITV coverage is rubbish compared to the BBC, yes. What's been irritating me is the way the English media are portraying this as a potential walkover. Iceland got where they did on merit, have an incredible defence and are very effective on the counter attack. Don't be surprised if they nick a 1-0 win in the dying minutes.
  16. Ha! Thanks, just call me the Mark Kermode of Buzzjack! With regards to the name of C vs I. I think it's a comment on the song itself - on the face of it, the record is a cash-in on a short-lived phenomenon...not too different to the Crazy Frog which would come a few years later. But the way it came to be - via John Peel and thanks to it becoming the second most requested record ever on his show (after God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols) is the interesting thing here. This kind of novelty record is usually the preserve of children, but this was a single being bought by people more usually found seeking out rare Sonic Youth bootlegs which is reflected in its quick descent down the chart - novelty records usually climb gradually. It also went to lengths to dilute the simplicity of "The Hampster Dance" - in a way it rescued poor Roger Miller from that association and plunged him into something far sillier, but more fun. I guess it's fair to say most people who bought it were fans of Disney's Robin Hood but had never seen the Hampster Dance web page. Therefore, the title - two synonyms referring to highly educated and informed people at odds with each other is perfect. This was a record that should not have been popular but was - and, in that way, you can attribute the same kind of playful subversion of The KLF to the Cuban Boys. Yes, I bought it.

  18. Otis was robbed! I'm not hugely sure of the appeal of Single Girl, a bit light country for me :(
  19. Nah, definitely something to do with trestle tables.

Could be a good way for him to turn heel - "don't say your prayers, don't take your vitamins, do steroids, be world champion" etc.
  21. There's usually enough I know about for me to have a go, so I do. I'm pretty pleased when I get one right, especially if it's a low or high scorer (where appropriate), but I really don't see the point in looking at the answers and then selecting one. Anyway, there's a no Google quiz coming up soon so feel free to ignore that until the normal ones come round again.
  22. It doesn't have to be easy, I just don't really see the point in finding a list of answers really quickly and then trying to second guess what somebody else might go for. That doesn't make it a quiz as such, more a scavenger hunt and a game of logic. That's one of the things I liked about the NMTB quiz, you couldn't really look that up - especially if the clips were too short to Shazam.

It's in the International TV forum - so wouldn't have thought so.
  24. I've entered. Answers off the top of my head so apologies for guesses especially with regards to the obscure Ethan Hawke film.
  25. Dunno. Questions on Pointless the TV show always have definitive lists, so you could do that too and make things easier :) You could do something like, "Name a film that made Top 10 in Empire's Top 100 films of the 20th century" - that way there's only ten answers and nobody can argue.
