Gary Davies - not Greg! I think all three said they had really early or really late timeslots, but they would all go on to be big names - Pat Sharp moved quickly to commercial radio though I think. Didn't Janice Long do the Evening Session before Mark Goodier?

Considering how that shitty rag treated George Michael, they've got a nerve to demand the re-release of his music so they can stick their logo all over it. http://www.nme.com/news/music/wham-careles...reissue-1925012

So, did anyone watch it on TV last night?
  4. richie posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Heh, that's what I thought. But then I remembered how low the midweek sales were for Clean Bandit etc. and figured that Rangers fanbase could easily get 50k people to download through a quick social media campaign. If they had a big push last night before the chart deadline then you never know... But I'd be happy if they fail to get it as high as Aberdeen fans got The Human League a few years back!
  5. I always thought "Maxwell House" should be a thing - chilled house tempo music for coffee breaks.

Several newspapers are reporting the Dave Clark Five as being genuine contenders now thanks to thousands of Rangers fans downloading it. Is it still an impossibility or have things changed now?
  7. Well, I didn't vote for it! :D

I don't think he will. I mean, I hope he'll do the double yet again where it matters (a triple double of worlds) but he won't win SPOTY as somebody will probably excel in a more popular sport. In a way it's great as I don't pay for Sky or BT sports but still get to see all major track and field events on Eurosport and the BBC. I guess that sweetens the fact that Mo will probably only finally be recognised when he rightly is given the lifetime achievement award in a few years.
  9. Thought I'd really struggle rating these but some really good songs got added in just at the end. Phew!

Was never a massive fan of the series when it was on, but will be interesting to hear David Tennant take over from the great Alan Young who died earlier this year.

:o Maybe I'm wrong in thinking he's one of the greatest athletes of all time?

They showed quite a few clips of it on the news a week or so ago. It's a cover of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Stones done Band Aid style. You can pretty much guess what it'll sound like. The "why buy a CD, why not just stick a fiver in a box" debate has been going on for years. The best example was the awful mess Elton John made of Candle in the Wind, but people were buying armfuls of it. Given how much it sold, it must be by miles the least listened to record of all time by sales. At least when Band Aid did it, the song was half decent, brand new and some people may have genuinely bought it because they quite liked it.

Inspiral Carpets odds shortening - I wonder what's going on there? Maybe they do "have streaming"
  15. richie posted a post in a topic in Television
Brilliant all round - the grasslands episode was my favourite.

Thanks, I think I have it now and didn't know that organisations could request their streams be ineligible (but I bet X Factor still take the money!) I'd been thinking for ages that "no streaming" meant it didn't count.
  17. richie posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Fine - so I still have no idea what is eligible through streaming and what isn't. I give up.

She has several tracks on Spotify so it isn't impossible. Just unlikely. But who knows what might happen.
  19. richie posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Yeah, I just wasn't sure if there was some new rule. I don't doubt Mariah will be everywhere you go this weekend (assuming shops use streaming services nowadays) but I do reckon the Carpets will get enough to be in the charts. They wouldn't have odds if people weren't betting, and people wouldn't be betting unless there was a chance.
  20. richie posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Right. So it's not a rule or anything, where a track has to be officially "re-released" for streams to count? Well, again, depends on the uptake of social media. I'd love to see you all proven wrong :P

Can somebody explain this "no streaming" thing to me that everyone has started talking about? I just listened to it on Spotify, why is that any different to Mariah Carey?
  22. richie posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Is there much news coverage now at all? I reckon it'll depend on how far it gets spread on social media among groups of folk of a certain age who like bands like Stone Roses / Oasis etc. Mind you, I bought it in 1994, not going to buy it again.
  23. richie posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
    Why not?

I suspect he'll get a bit of a boost and make the top 40, but number 1 seems a bit unlikely.
  25. No, you can pick any five songs you like as long as they're indie / alternative (whether that means the traditional or modern sense, I guess it's at the mod's discretion) and, when you do, your picks will be added to that list.
