  1. Why are we getting hung up on a TV theme when Toxygene has just entered the run down? Great record and a bit of a shame that it's likely to be their only inclusion here. 1997 has been very good so far. Who knew? (Although a certain ! will be along soon to ruin that I'm sure)

How will that work? Department stores are not really the same as in the 70s are they? Not keen on remakes at all as there's no point in them if the original was great - look at Reggie Perrin. What was the point in remaking that?

I think it was Graham Kibble-White - I've got it somewhere.
  4. Been really getting into Vlokken of late. Love this. https://soundcloud.com/intellighenzia_label...vlokken-tremolo
  5. No idea! It got two votes a couple of rounds ago too. It would get my last vote (i.e. it's his best album)
  6. It'll be fun at least...although won't hold out for a laugh-a-minute script. The Only Fools and Horses special they did a few years back was weird - Nicholas Lyndhurst just looked really uncomfortable throughout for some reason.

The lottery quiz has been the only decent thing on Saturday nights for years now. Strictly is the only 'talent' show I can abide and even that isn't as good as it was. As for Stars in their Eyes, they brought that back as a Harry Hill vehicle - upped the tragic irony level to blistering levels and completely forgot to get people on who could actually sing (presumably any who can had already wasted their time on X-Factor and The Voice). The original Matthew Kelly series was a bit tacky, yes, but the soundalikes were usually not bad. What is slightly ironic is that Challenge TV used to have a fantastic Saturday night line-up with repeats of the likes of Bobs Full House and 3-2-1 being shown. Now it's all Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Even though I loved Millionaire when it started it completely lost its appeal once the prize had been won. I definitely wouldn't want to see a repeat. Would like to see repeats of things like You Bet, Every Second Counts, maybe even classic Generation Game.
  8. Scraping the bottom of a not particularly nice smelling barrel.
  9. I've voted Scary Monsters but surprised to see nobody vote for Blackstar so far which I would put out next. Put sentimentality to one side - unless you all genuinely do think it ranks up with his best? A huge improvement on The Next Day, yes, but not sure it really challenges much of the 70s.
  10. I quite like the Professional Widow remix - I do agree that it's always been more of an Armand Van Helden record than Tori Amos really. Shame she would presumably have pocketed the money while he just got an upfront fee. These days it would be Armand Van Helden featuring Tori Amos with all spoils split.
  11. It's that cheesy riff, I tell's ya!

That's the funny thing - while appearing on TOTP gave St Winifred's a huge boost, it had the opposite effect for this choir who dropped straight out of the charts after appearing on TOTP. I'm guessing they must have appeared on some other show the week before to have even reached no.27 in the first place?
  13. I don't even remember that Madonna song. Hoping this will be corrected by the playoff vote between 1 and 2 later on...
  14. I loved Breathe when it came out but it has not aged as well as Firestarter. The lyrics are also awful - they're from the same nonsensical trough as those on Firestarter but seem to be trying to say something which just doesn't get across. Firestarter's lyrics are all peculiar, shambolic boasts - what is Breathe actually trying to say? Musically, it doesn't have half the punk edge of Firestarter, the main riff is a little cheesy and the chorus is like a cartoon bogeyman trying his best Johnny Rotten impression. Which means Firestarter was really a bit of a fluke - as we found with the rest of Fat of the Land which, Kool Keith's 'Diesel Power' aside, was just full of cartoon vocal performances.
  15. Greatest Hits sets usually come out when an artist or band is losing popularity, need a break and have a couple of singles to put out but not enough for a whole album (Madonna's Immaculate Collection comes to mind here) or are looking to run down a multi-album deal.
  16. Heh - great fun. I thought having the 'shock' question would be contentious though, best to stick to published lists for answers (e.g. The Lottery Who Dares Wins show always states the source of answers so there are no arguments!) Mark Rylance being in a film always convinces me to watch it. I reckon he's the best actor in the world right now, but mainly known for theatre acting. Thanks for running this!
  17. I do quite like Insomnia. Just don't think it is particularly groundbreaking - it's a less interesting take on the Felix record of four years earlier. I've said enough about Children. Whatever ground it broke wasn't really needing breaking.

Probably doesn't matter that much as wins / losses don't translate into money earned. It's actually a skill to be able to keep losing and come back. Look at Bray Wyatt - he hardy ever wins but he's one of the best that WWE have and remains really popular (albeit not face popularity - but that wouldn't work with him).
  19. Who's Alex Range?
  20. Never been 100% certain of Studio Ghibli I pronounce it Jeebly
  21. Don't really care, all the best films went ages ago. These two are pretty good, but should both just be outside the top 10. I prefer Aladdin just I think.

Either that or she does win and has a retirement match at Wrestlemania against her sister?

    Never heard it.
  24. Excellent isn't it? I don't care too much for the plinky plonky riff that comes in half way through. It's really accessible dance music but there are much better riffs out there (Vitalic's La Rock 01 does so much more for me on a dancefloor). It's legacy is there for all to see in any kind of Tiesto-style production or Fatboy Slim disc that lets him stand there with his fingers in the air - simple riffs that make people jump up and down punching the air at festivals making that "wooah wooah" noise. Not a great thing :)
