NOW Christmas Vote
That and In Dulci Jubilo which is definitely medieval in origin but I think the version Mike Oldfield did was popularised by Bach. Good to see Mike back on the Now album, I think he was missing for a long time. Why people still want to hear the Pogues and Mariah Carey is beyond me. Not sure why Slade seem to have lost a lot of popularity in recent years. Not sure why Band Aid is also relegated to disc 3 but at least it's the original version.

Dance Chart Number Ones 1990 - 1999
I did quite like the video for that Outhere Brothers record - lots of ye olde cartoons stuck together over a wee groove. The "club mix" is a load of bollocks. In fact, bollocks are about the only thing they don't mention. Never really understood people who went out to buy the single (and other stuff like Chubby Brown's Alice) just because there were naughty words on it though.

The Nation's Favourite Beatles No.1 Single
It was actually a really well-made programme (I saw 27-5 yesterday on the repeat) with some new insights. Just a shame that some of my faves were away down at the bottom!
-
Top 50 tracks of 2015
Indeed. I'll submit my faves which usually end up stuck to the bottom of the list!
-
top beatles track
Good to see love for Rain and Hey Bulldog - two of my favourites. I'd put the majority of Magical Mystery Tour ahead of most other Beatles tunes.

BBC Children in Need 2015
Great - that's my coffee breaks sorted then.

Top of the Pops on BBC4
Wonder if BBC4 could compile "the best of what we couldn't show you" into an hour long TOTP2 special some time? Guess not as it's much cheaper just to broadcast the originals without making any edits or getting Steve Wright or Mark Radcliffe to record a "funny" voiceover.

1990s Top 40 Rate - The 'Impossible' Part 4
Interesting - I'd take the other two over My Favourite Game which is pretty boring. I am compiling my own top 40 as we go through these though and it's going to make a blimmin' superb Spotify playlist once it's finished!

1990s Top 40 Rate - Part 7
Yes, or if you have two at 1 then put both 1s together and go for the one at 11.

1990s Top 40 Rate - Part 7
Urgh, don't like either of those but I would give New Radicals the nod and at least it does sound representative of the 90s. Can't even remember what the J-Lo one sounds like.

The Nation's Favourite Beatles No.1 Single
Really weird order, I agree it would look better reversed. Can't work out why Eight Days a Week is higher than many behind it either...at least I know why the boring nation went for some of the boring tracks at the top. Ah well, it don't matter...

1990s Top 40 Rate - The 'Impossible' Part 4
Great choice for number 25, getting a bit sick and tired of this Cardigans carnival we're having here though. I quite like them but I don't think they deserve three (possibly more if Lovefool goes in later) entries in the 40.

The Nation's Favourite Beatles No.1 Single
Bit of a McCartneyfest at the top - only caught the top 5. Did anyone get the full list?

Dance Chart Number Ones 1990 - 1999
Well, I'll buck the trend and say that it grates on me today although I remember thinking it was just about danceable at the time. A hint of hardcore after dance music had moved on. Think I've mentioned before how irritating it was for me to be a huge fan of rave at the age of 14 but just too young to go out and do anything about it. Interesting point about the interest in Scotland though - we had a really weird taste in twee, cheesy poppy rave-lite rubbish in the early to mid 90s - QFX, Ultrasonic, Time Frequency. I hated pretty much all of it. I'm guessing we won't have seen the end of N-Trance in 1995 though...

Dance Chart Number Ones 1990 - 1999
Aha, well there you go. I'd say Incredible shares more elements of drum n bass than what I would term jungle but it's all lightning fast beats and barely intelligible lyrics at the end of the day.

The Nation's Favourite Beatles No.1 Single
I'd guess the public would go for Hey Jude. I'd probably go Paperback Writer myself.

Dance Chart Number Ones 1990 - 1999
Don't think anyone referred to it as that but I guess it fits the description. Anyway, the term was definitely in use around that time :)
-
Dance Chart Number Ones 1990 - 1999
Maybe not Top 40 hits, but the summer of 1992 saw the likes of Future Sound by Phuture Assassins hitting the top 75. Jungle was a term used to describe this kind of faster, more frantic rave coming out on the likes of Suburban Base and Moving Shadow at the time, usually accompanied by reggae vocals. Check the 2 Bad Mice remix of Future Sound for a sure-fire original jungle classic.

Wasn't all that taken by the trailer but might give it a go now!

Suffragette
I keep hearing this, but what better way to end it? The Emily Davison incident is THE iconic incident in the struggle and happened just months before the Great War. What I find amazing is how well the director gave us that moment - we all knew it was coming but it was so well done that it left us all feeling chilled. Some say "what happened to Maude?" but I think the film gives you enough to fill in the blanks yourself however you want to. She was merely representing the few working class women who got involved in the campaign and perhaps this is the film-makers way of showing that this particular character was allowed to become anonymous again by Gleeson's character. I dunno, but I didn't need or want any more. As for Oscar nods, Sarah Gavron deserves the Best Director Oscar but irony has a habit of wielding its funny little fist around these things and it'll probably go to a bloke for a blokey film.
