  1. Urgh, don't like either of those but I would give New Radicals the nod and at least it does sound representative of the 90s. Can't even remember what the J-Lo one sounds like.
  2. Really weird order, I agree it would look better reversed. Can't work out why Eight Days a Week is higher than many behind it either...at least I know why the boring nation went for some of the boring tracks at the top. Ah well, it don't matter...
  3. Great choice for number 25, getting a bit sick and tired of this Cardigans carnival we're having here though. I quite like them but I don't think they deserve three (possibly more if Lovefool goes in later) entries in the 40.
  4. Bit of a McCartneyfest at the top - only caught the top 5. Did anyone get the full list?
  5. Well, I'll buck the trend and say that it grates on me today although I remember thinking it was just about danceable at the time. A hint of hardcore after dance music had moved on. Think I've mentioned before how irritating it was for me to be a huge fan of rave at the age of 14 but just too young to go out and do anything about it. Interesting point about the interest in Scotland though - we had a really weird taste in twee, cheesy poppy rave-lite rubbish in the early to mid 90s - QFX, Ultrasonic, Time Frequency. I hated pretty much all of it. I'm guessing we won't have seen the end of N-Trance in 1995 though...
  6. Aha, well there you go. I'd say Incredible shares more elements of drum n bass than what I would term jungle but it's all lightning fast beats and barely intelligible lyrics at the end of the day.
  7. I'd guess the public would go for Hey Jude. I'd probably go Paperback Writer myself.
  8. Don't think anyone referred to it as that but I guess it fits the description. Anyway, the term was definitely in use around that time :)
  9. Maybe not Top 40 hits, but the summer of 1992 saw the likes of Future Sound by Phuture Assassins hitting the top 75. Jungle was a term used to describe this kind of faster, more frantic rave coming out on the likes of Suburban Base and Moving Shadow at the time, usually accompanied by reggae vocals. Check the 2 Bad Mice remix of Future Sound for a sure-fire original jungle classic.
  10. Oh God, so have I. The song that just won't go away.

Wasn't all that taken by the trailer but might give it a go now!

I keep hearing this, but what better way to end it? The Emily Davison incident is THE iconic incident in the struggle and happened just months before the Great War. What I find amazing is how well the director gave us that moment - we all knew it was coming but it was so well done that it left us all feeling chilled. Some say "what happened to Maude?" but I think the film gives you enough to fill in the blanks yourself however you want to. She was merely representing the few working class women who got involved in the campaign and perhaps this is the film-makers way of showing that this particular character was allowed to become anonymous again by Gleeson's character. I dunno, but I didn't need or want any more. As for Oscar nods, Sarah Gavron deserves the Best Director Oscar but irony has a habit of wielding its funny little fist around these things and it'll probably go to a bloke for a blokey film.
  13. Can I question this? Jungle was widespread in the summer of 1992 and drum 'n' bass was already a widely used term by 1994. By the end of the decade the popular sound had already passed through "big beat" and the "breaks" sound was coming in. :) Pedantic I know...
  14. I'm still dipping into this - People on the High Line is now my fave.

Great to see Stu Francis, he was my hero around that time. Did anyone ever actually see him crush a grape? He certainly could, the question is did he ever?

I hope so, he's one of the most arrogant people in the world on TV usually.
  17. LFO - the original bleep-techno act and the "Lyte Funkie Ones" who were some awful American boy band around the turn of the century.

Since it's the 25th anniversary of the first appearance of the Undertaker and the 24th anniversary of his first title win, they could give it to the Undertaker. Tournament matches are always really, really short and somebody always gets a bye straight to the final so it'd be perfect for him. He can then lose it at the Royal Rumble once WWE have re-jigged their future plans.
  19. I actually found Another Night quite catchy, would never have bought it but didn't mind it.

  21. I guess so - I know all three songs extremely well, just hard to find links when you know them as separate entities I suppose. What about the Cannonball bassline though? That's what makes it iconic (or at least I thought it was!)

  25. Unfathomable results. Two songs I can't even recall. Hope there's a reshuffle as Cannonball was robbed!!!!!
