Cheek - I was only 10 in 1987!

The film wasn't bad and it would have been nice for them to make the other two. But, with child actors you have to act fast and it would have made more sense to make all three back to back a la Peter Jackson - guess the money wasn't there to do that. A long TV series is what is needed - Six 60 minute episodes per book would be nice. The question is when to show it? The Dr Who slot would make sense rather than 9pm on a Sunday (which hampered the viewing figures of the excellent Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell) or they could break from the current weird "prime-time" setup and stick it on a weekday at 8pm.

Just realised that I didn't see the advert last year or hear the record. Would be very pleased to keep it that way this year too.

Not sure Spagna deserves the embarrassed pause before her name there - 'Call Me' is a much cooler record than 'Two Times' or 'Satisfaction'!

Well, didn't see that one coming! :D Just as well I voted so we didn't have to sneer at some classic records from Rebel MC, The Wonder Stuff and Dinosaur Jr though <_<

SN. Sheesh, I'd forgotten CEJ......

That was the norm in the 90s though - somehow the labels often thought the UK was more sophisticated or wouldn't like certain mixes. We've had examples of that already in this thread with the Bruce Forrest mix of 24-7's 'I Can't Stand It', the non-rap version of 'Get Ready for This' and that flaccid mix of 'Doop'. One record coming later in 1994 (if it's considered dance, which I think it is) probably would have been released as a slightly harder mix had so many Brits not heard it in its original Europop form during the summer of that year and perfected the, er, dance.

This is the version I first heard and thought was pretty fun (I liked the two dancing blokes in the video especially) - I really didn't like the second part in the "Urge 2 Merge" mix which we got in the UK. Anyway, very ashamed now to have this on 7"..... But it's better than most of 1994 :P

   :w00t: :cheer:

:)

Bit surprised by Sick and Tired winning, but says more about the Cardigans and the general type of band people on BJ like. Can't fathom out why anyone still listens to Alanis Morrissette though.

Ha! I would never have predicted two Divine Comedy records in the top 10 of anything...but there you go.

Not a massive fan of the winner but at least it wasn't Aerosmith or Robbie Williams.

Missed this one, but I don't think I'd have voted for any of the other contenders and the DiVinyls is a good one hit wonder representative. My no.1 pick would have been Gary Clail with 808 State and the JAMMs close behind.

As a Sunderland fan, that's quite typical - even our chart campaigns are unsuccessful!

Congratulations - that's the first time D:Ream have been mentioned in five years without some reference to Brian Cox.

Ah well, there's one decent act that came out of the Production House stable who are guaranteed a number one in 1994...but there's also a song ruined by future association, a singing bathroom salesman and some dreadful bouncy Charleston-house from Holland... ...and I have the latter on 7"

No idea how much you get per stream but I would imagine some animals are more equal than others.

Hopefully at least one record by The Prodigy but otherwise it'll be pretty poor I reckon.

Would love to see C Duncan win it - great wee album. Or for Aphex Twin to pick it up after such a long time at it. Ghostpoet would be cool too. But it'll be something I don't really get like Jamie XX or SOAK. Didn't think a great deal of the Wolf Alice album. One or two decent songs but their sound has been horribly diluted since their early EPs.

Not sure what source was used, but the version that got to number 4 was America: What Time is Love? released in early 1992 and very different to the previous releases. The most popular mix made number 5 in 1990 and is practically guaranteed my top spot. Could end up with KLF at 5 and 4 in the final 40 with different versions of the same song.
