Been loving Alakazam! for a few weeks now but didn't think the album was all that great. Not bad, but not worth repeated listens.
  2. I've heard several have been told that they didn't have anyone with a big enough story. I guess that means that anyone who actually makes it into the archive rooms should prepare themselves for a surprise or two. Heh heh, probably easier to do it the other way round. They'd still want a celebrity at the other end. I'm guessing Darwin himself didn't descend from Adam and Eve though.

I might support this one. The girls have had such a hard time of it.

http://film-reviews-and-news.com/sites/default/files/ethel-and-ernest-2-.jpg Noticed there's no topic for this yet. It's going to be one of the BBC highlights this Christmas - I think it's on Christmas Day, not sure - but it's also out on limited run in the cinemas and we went to see it last week. Definitely worth sneaking a preview early as it looks magnificent on the big screen and has a great early and mid-20th Century soundtrack. It's also heart-warming and heart-breaking in equal measures. Anyone else seen it yet?
  5. What I really love about the show is that it's not about the celebrities, but their far more interesting ancestors and the history they lived through. It means I'm actually looking forward to seeing something featuring Danny Dyer and Cheryl Whateverhersurnameisthisweek

There were some great moments from the kids over the course of the night and some real stories of bravery. I'd just ditch all the celebrities - especially these poor pastiches where, this time, big names literally phoned in a few seconds of footage. People used to turn up on the night and give their time for free, not film a half-arsed bit at the end of The Apprentice or X Factor.

An excellent series continues. We were glad the Capybara managed to escape the Jaguar.

I'd be amazed if there's an official David Bowie release. I guess somebody might start a campaign to get an old song there, but very little chance of it succeeding. Same goes for Leonard Cohen.
  9. I loved Mark on the Evening Session in the very early 90s. He once sent me an Altern 8 CD and a promo photo of himself (wahey!) when I wrote in about them. Hope he gets well soon.
  10. Totally sick of hearing both. But at least I liked the Pogues at one time whereas I've always hated Mariah's vocals. The song itself isn't too bad, like a cheap rip off of Phil Spector.

Ha ha! I think she did play the saxophone solo on Wax's Building a Bridge to your Heart a few years later.

Fun Fact: Bob Holness' daughter Ros was a member of Toto Coelo. Not sure which one of the group she was though.

People have been saying this ever since Nigel Mansell won the trophy in 1986. It never gets old, never. Murray's achievements can't be denied so he'll probably triumph again. Especially since tennis is a very popular sport among voters. Mo Farah had better get second place though as he has now achieved more than any British Track and Field athlete ever and, Murray aside, I really can't see anyone else getting past him apart from Brexit-era voters that is.

Poor Sean Paul got paid a fortune to go into a studio 12 months ago to record a load of 8 line sections over a click track with no knowledge of where they'd end up!

    The bears were fantastic!
  17. Thanks for doing the quiz - and I didn't finish last for a change! Was confused by Ghostbusters being in there and then remembered there was the remake this year which I haven't seen.
  18. I'll bet it was an idea that was batted back and forth - but Sainsbury's did the trench advert last year :)
  19. Me too - but, again, it'd probably need a big feature somewhere on TV. Just as long as nobody does a stripped-back, acoustic cover for the John Lewis advert!
  20. True, but I suspect it's people of a certain vintage buying / streaming them. We need Noddy and co on a big advert somewhere - even an X Factor cover!

I wasn't expecting much from it, but I enjoyed it. A pretty simple story and very sugary ending but great for cat lovers everywhere.

Loved the penguins too - and the sloth was pretty great. Bet Zootropolis has a lot to answer for there.
  23. Might be a good chance for these to do well as I'd guess more people are streaming now than ever before? I bet shops are also starting to use Spotify apps on shuffle rather than CDs. Not sure any will get to the top 10 but should be around about the same. Hoping Slade pick up a bit, seems wrong that they've been overtaken by Wizzard and Chris Rea.

I think Mel will be really good, there's a lot more to her than Bake Off. I don't know Lolly at all either, but hopefully she'll be fun.

Public vote is really stupid. I'll bet people only vote to "save" those in the bottom two or somebody who was in last week's dance off, completely ignoring those in the middle and that's why good dancers keep ending up going. They should scrap the public vote and just go with the judges - but it's probably pretty lucrative for the makers. They should also stop this ridiculous pretence that the Sunday show wasn't recorded the night before - especially now that there are hundreds of "Strictly spoiler" tweets going around once the result has leaked out. No reason why they couldn't show the dance off on Saturday night after the lottery.
