When it was announced by the OCC that tracks over 3 years old would be subject to ACR I emailed the OCC and got this reply... " The 3 year restriction does not prevent older Christmas tracks entering the top end of the Official Singles Chart, but it does stop seasonal activity flooding the Official Chart. As an example in week 52 last year there were 8 tracks in the Top 10 and 13 in the Top 20. under the new rules there would have been 3 in the Top 10 and 8 in the Top 20. Under the new rules, Wham! would have charted at #3 in the Christmas chart (week 51), which is the same position it achieved under the old rules. In week 52, instead of peaking at #2, it would have been at #5.
  2. Just received this reply from the OCC: The 3 year reset restriction does not prevent older Christmas tracks entering to top end of the Official Singles Chart, but it does stop seasonal activity flooding the Official Chart As an example, in week 52 last year there were 8 Christmas tracks in the Top 10 and 13 in the top 20 Under the new rules there would have been 3 in the Top 10 and 8 in the Top 20 If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me
  3. Then I'd rather they remove them completely than give a false representation of their populaity
  4. But that IS what's popular at Christmas
  5. DVD singles are counted, so why not video purchases/streams? Whats the difference?

I remember in 1995 I had a magazine which came in addition to my subscription of Billboard - it may have been ‘Music Monitor’ and they printed a UK HOT 100, I remember ‘Search For The Hero’ by M People peaking at #1. Does anyone have access to these charts?
  7. What are the all time sales for ABBA Gold and Bob Marley Legend? Are those total sales only from 1994 onward?
  8. Only because the album was repackaged. In its original form if fell 31-46 on its 53rd week in the albums chart, prior to its repackage.

So is Ed Sheeran on ACR..? if so I would have expected him to have fallen lower than 3
  10. Surprised not to see Michael Jackson's Off The Wall making an appearance - Budget Chart perhaps?

The Dirty Dancing soundtrack has reported total sales of 3.15 million in the UK, so those separate certifications do not tally... Also Thriller had sales reported by OCC in 2012 of 4.273m yet it is awarded a 13xplatinum award, not 14...

Surely the sales figure for Billie Jean they quote has to be incorrect; it was certified for sales of 500,000 in 1983 alone.
  13. Is there still an official UK Club Chart in existence?
  14. ffs jameela, its 'Get Up (Rattle)' not 'Get up and rattle'. Also its not Macklemore featuring Ryan Lewis either!
  15. im sure he mentioned in the interview that they collated the raw data
  16. so what does that Omar guy at OCC actually do? Seems its Millward Brown who do the 'number crunching'.

Madonna doesnt have any singles certified platinum in the UK as qualification for a platinum award up until 1989 required shipments of 1000000 units. i do wonder however how the certification process works if combined sales span pre and post 1989.

Standard and Deluxe Editions of Kylie arrived today at the hmv i work in. As stock is centrally ordered its likely that the stock scaled out to stores will arrive roughly the same time.
  20. Enrique next?
  21. He Looked well pi**ed when he press KOL again lol
  22. Is Conor Maynard definitely released on Sunday? On iTunes it says the EP's expected 29th April...
  23. So the 'Dirty Dancing' soundtrack has sold roughly 600,000 copies since 2006?!!
  24. Kirsty MacColl's 'They Don't Know' reached #2 on the Music Week airplay chart in 1979. However, complications involving a strike at her distributors prevented the single from being shipped and promoted properly, preventing release of the single - it thus failed to appear in the UK Singles Chart.
