Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
23.12.2000 : Mariah Carey and Westlife - Against All Odds (2 weeks # 1) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/ca/Westlife_carey.jpg/220px-Westlife_carey.jpg KWK8PQGR4Bg "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" (also simply titled "Against All Odds") is a song by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins, recorded for the soundtrack to the 1984 film of the same name. The song has been covered by several singers, some versions of which have been successful in both the US and UK markets. One of the most notable versions was the pairing of Mariah Carey and boyband Westlife. Amazing cover version was released in September 2000, a few months after Carey's solo version. Carey did not re-record her vocals for the duet; however, the instrumental track was reproduced with a more organic sound complete with violins. The single was more successful than the original in the UK and Ireland where it peaked at number one, giving Westlife their sixth consecutive number one. It also gave Carey her second number 1 single in the UK. The song has sold 375,000 copies in the total in the UK. The music video shows Carey and Westlife recording the song and exploring the island of Capri by boat.

09.12.2000 : Hannah Waddingham - Our Kind Of Love (2 weeks # 1) http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/52173025/Hannah%20Waddingham%20png.png WoIHLEi39Os Hannah Waddingham is an English actress and singer. She is best known for her contribution to West End musical theatre, particularly her performances in the original London production of Spamalot, A Little Night Music, Into The Woods, and most recently "The Wizard of Oz" as the Wicked Witch of the West. She has received three Olivier Award nominations for her work. She has also had a successful film and television career. Billed simply as Hannah, she placed "Our Kind of Love" in UK Singles Chart in October 2000, where it peaked at #41.

Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
25.11.2000 : No Doubt - Simple Kind Of Life (1 week # 1) http://www.doghousegallery.net/gallery/albums/skol/no_doubt_simple_kind_of_life.jpg kRpZJ9EgJho It's my favourite Gwen's song, not "Don't Speak" and even not "Cool". "Simple Kind of Life" is a pop rock ballad written by Gwen Stefani for No Doubt's fourth album Return of Saturn (2000). The song contrasts Stefani's desire to settle down and start a family with her commitment to the band. It received positive reviews from music critics, who noted the song's somber melody and raw lyrics. "Simple Kind of Life" was released as the album's second single in June 2000. It became the most successful American single from "Return of Saturn", but didn't have the international success, include only # 69 in United Kingdom. The accompanying music video illustrates the song's themes of marriage and family.

Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
Britney's song was dethroned by a classic hit. 14.10.2000 : Supersister - Coffee (4 weeks # 1) http://www.djspook.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/0000166215_350-300x300.jpg IEjV7a0WqUE Supersister are a British girl band made up of Eleanor Phillips, Louise Fudge and Tina Peacock, who released the singles "Coffee" (# 16 in UK Singles Chart), "Shopping" (UK # 36) and "Summer Gonna Come Again" (UK # 51). They supported Steps and Hear’Say on tour in 2002. Fourth single, 'I Just Came To Dance', was never released (it ended up as an S Club 8 album track) and a recorded album 'Lip Service' was also scrapped.

Sugababes Singles Rate
I don't like "11" and "-1" marks in rate games, so I try not give them for any songs. I gave "11" only once for Anmary - Beautiful Song, because it's my all-time # 1 favourite song. Don't like. A positive surprise from Anthony. :o :o :o

Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
Time is so fast. Today is 2nd Anniversary of my retrospective. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ahi39C897Mk/TmUC3nUSCRI/AAAAAAAAAag/N8ThqEw10T4/s400/Happy%20Anniversary.jpg I finished all 90s decade in one year. Only 10 years is not very much in compare with 20, but I was in a "I left Buzzjack forum and don't want post anything here" mood in the most months of 2014 year.

Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
My favourite Britney's song here. 26.08.2000 : Britney Spears - Lucky (9 weeks # 1) http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/392/075/392075220_640.jpg 4vvBAONkYwI The teen pop and dance-pop song tells a story about a famous pop star named Lucky, who, despite seemingly having it all – fame, wealth, beauty – is truly lonely and unhappy on the inside. It received positive reviews from music critics, who considered its melody and rhythm as sweet and catchy, and noted the lyrics to be about Spears herself. The video begins with Spears telling a story about very famous Hollywood actress named Lucky. Lucky is seen wearing a pink nightgown behind the curtains, standing on her billboard with fluffy white cotton balls attached to the edges, inside her mansion and shots of her out on the balcony. As beautiful and rich as she is, on set she sits on the star-shape in the sky, as she is acting, she is looking quite distressed. After the first chorus, she goes to the hotel mansion to the flowers, then she leaves and sits down and gets a mirror. Next, Lucky opens the door to reveal a handsome man, who then takes her in his arms, as the director yells "Cut! We've got it". Lucky then walks off-set into the studio as grandpa's room, replying to the director: "Finally! We've done it fifty-million times!" She then goes to have her hair and makeup done; with Spears standing unnoticed and very worried looking by her side. Lucky is then seen in a shiny gray evening gown at the Academy Awards accepting her award for Best Actress. Lucky looks happy as she accepts it and smiles at her fans, Best actress, and the winner is Lucky! but is soon revealed that this is not true happiness. She makes her way away from her screaming fans and back into her limo, where she unexpectedly finds an ornate hand mirror that was used on the film set. She looks back to the crowd to see who has left it and sees Spears leaning forward in the crowd. The limo drives away, leaving Spears behind on the red carpet. The video ends with Lucky crying herself to sleep, her make-up already stained on her face. The curtains close, ending the video. Country singer Taylor Swift performed the song on her Speak Now World Tour on September 20, 2011 located in Louisiana, as a tribute to Spears. Wearing her signature lilac dress, Swift started to play the first chords of "Lucky" on her guitar. In United States "Lucky" peaked at number 23 on Billboard Hot 100 and number nine on the Top 40 Mainstream chart. "Lucky" also achieved commercial success worldwide, reaching number one in Austria, Sweden and Switzerland. "Lucky" debuted at number 5 in the Official Charts Company from the United Kingdom, falling to number six in the following week. In Australia, the song peaked at number 3 and was later certified Platinum by ARIA, for shipments of more than 70,000 units of the single. In Germany, the song reached number one on the Media Control Charts, being certified Gold for shipping over 250,000 units of the single.

Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
12.08.2000 : Steps - When I Said Goodbye (2 weeks # 1) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/10/Stepsgoodbyesummer.jpg/220px-Stepsgoodbyesummer.jpg M_G0t4qB3Bc Best British pop group got their 12th number one single. "When I Said Goodbye"/"Summer of Love" is a double A-side single, the tenth single released by Steps. "When I Said Goodbye" is a ballad taken from the album "Steptacular", while "Summer of Love" was a previously unavailable track. The latter is a Latino-flavoured uptempo pop song, which later appeared on their third album "Buzz". The video for "When I Said Goodbye" was a black-and-white video shot in Rome, Italy. It featured shots of the members singing solemnly. In contrast, the video for the Latin-flavoured "Summer Of Love" featured brightly coloured clothes and energetic dancing. It portrayed Steps and their dancers as "good steps" (very colourful and dressed innocently) and "bad steps" (dressed in leather, with black makeup, somewhat raunchy looking) in the end good steps chased bad steps away with their amazing dancing. "When I Said Goodbye"/"Summer of Love" peaked at #5 in UK Singles chart and got 18th position in Ireland.

Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
05.08.2000 : Aqua - Around The World (1 week # 1) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5a/Aquariusaquaalbum.jpg HXfi6c1-OwI "Around the World" was released as the second single from their second studio album "Aquarius" in May 2000, and was their final release in United Kingdom before their split in mid-2001. "Around the World" was originally called "Larger than Life", but was renamed after American boy band Backstreet Boys released a single with the same title in 1999. The group has described the song as a "happy-dancing song with a huge, massive choir." "Around the World" was released in May 2000, with the UK release following in December. The UK release became their lowest chart single at the time, peaking at #26. The chart position showed that their popularity had fallen and resulted in the follow-up "Bumble Bees" not being released in the UK at all. Despite this, "Around the World" managed to reach #1 in the group's native Denmark. In Norway, it made the top 20 at #16, and in Sweden, it peaked at #4 and was certified Gold. In my retrospective "Around The World" is the fourth Aqua's # 1 after "Barbie Girl", "Doctor Jones" and "My Oh My".
