Take That & Westlife
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatMusically no contest - TT have more musical scope through many popular music genres and different styles of songs and also far stronger individuals and personalities and creativity 90's included. They challenge themselves and change creatively pushing their music forward. Westlife stuck rigidly to a winning formula. TT even in the 90's stepped out of their comfort zone (Sure etc). They were also more critically acclaimed namely through Gary legitimising them as a credible act who could create/write their own music. They inspired both Backstreet Boys and NSYNC (had same manager) who witnessed first hand their dominance in Europe/Asia in '95/'96. This has been referenced by multiple members of both bands in interviews and autobiographies. NSYNC were shown footage and told 'this is the benchmark' and level of performance/success in Europe to achieve as were BSB. So in part inspired if only mildly the biggest selling boyband of all time. Sales wise WL may be more but in terms of cultural impact it's definitely TT. They were the first to take it to that level in Britain and Europe. In terms of sales it's a grey area for TT and only themselves (Gary at least) and NMS will truly know through audits. Keep in mind certifications/sales became FAR more known and easily available with the boom of the internet in 1999 onwards (Westlife first year) articles and databases. Many of which started in the year 2000. Although TT popularity in early to mid 90's has been noted in South America and Mexico and moderately in Canada (x 2 top 40 albums)/briefly America (one top ten hit) in impact chart positions/sales information for TT is far harder to attain than it is for Westlife even though we are talking a few years difference. Worldwide I'd say it's very close and if a new Greatest Hits album sells from TT sells I believe that would almost certainly push them over Westlife. Westlife were also around when boybands were a proven and tried/tested formula and the height of it globally being 99-00 due to American dominance of Backstreet Boys/NSYNC in USA. Instant returns of success due to a proven formula and structure. Any boyband could sell well regardless of quality during these years. What we do know however is that Take That have by far sold more records in the UK and across Europe. Take That have sold by millions more records across all of Europe (excluding Ireland,Sweden,Norway). TT were the biggest pop band in Europe multiple Eurochart #1's. Westlife were average top 20 at best and nations like Spain,Portugal,Italy,France they never charted or were low minimal positions. Fact is in 1995 TT were the biggest boyband in the World a single #1 in 31 nations and an album which charted on every continent and at least top 10/20 (USA #69). At no point have Westlife had a global impact which has included North America also. UK - TT album 13.3 mill min / singles 9.3 mill Westlife album 11.1 mill min / singles 6.0 mill

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatPersonally I think they have got it right III re-released will help it along and Greatest Hits Vol 2 will remind everyone of their amazing songs from the previous decade. If it's a mixture of era 1/2 then again that's still great and an overall reminder. I'd say perhaps a Greatest Hits come out in 2016 and then a studio album in 2017 to mark the anniversary? Either way I think it's a good plan from them. Plenty of artists who have been around many years have Greatest Hits Vol 2 and then Vol 3. It only marks the end if they want it too (Mark only one worried by this) but like I say it can also remind people before they head onto further studio albums.

Take That - Live 2015 Tour
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatThey have announced some countries where the III show is being broadcast in cinemas on Friday 19th June. Hopefully as many countries as possible will be added outside of Europe also. Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, UK Some of these countries surprise me as I didn't think based on chartings TT were popular in these countries but the more countries the better I suppose. I know South and North America have twitter fan pages so those countries would be good to be included. On twitter Argentina and Chile seem to have the most requests at the moment. Hopefully the fans will be happy for the show to come to their town in the cinema if not in person.

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatSo Higher Than Higher is being released on 8th June and I've heard it being played on my local radio station. This song was my favourite instantly from the album although I don't think anyone is expecting it to chart top 100. I like the fact they appear to have listened to what the fans have said and also they have seen a campaign through with three singles even if two haven't gone top 100. I hope a music video is produced also even if it's a tie in with tour footage as it can be played on TV. http://store.universalmusic.com/takethat/*..._source=Twitter The single CD is again limited edition so even if all are bought in first week I don't think the single would get inside top 100. I think them getting #1 with These Days was just in time as we all know the chart rules changed shortly after so unsure where the single would have charted in current chart methodology. I think TT like any older act have to find out who to succeed in the market as it currently is. They adapted to downloads even if the single release strategies have been a bit hit and miss and think they'll have to embrace streaming though as I don't use it I wouldn't know how you advertise and get people to use it.

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatI feel bad for saying it again but perhaps it was the tax thing or them going down from 5 to 3 meaning an anti climax from such a big record and Rob/Jason fans leaving. A 4 year gap between albums nearly the length of their whole career first time around is a long time also to wait for new material. It could also have been like this with just the four of them but we'd never know. Nothing lasts forever, the tour may bump the album up yet. It was inevitable that there was going to be a huge drop in sales but agree I expected at least 1 million as long as it goes 2x platinum it'll equal Nobody Else and so won't be their worst performing studio album. I've said it before the second Greatest Hits needs to come out to remind everyone how good they have been post 2005 and will introduce others to the III material or the singles at least unless just These Days is the only track representing on a greatest hits vol 2. I'm not convinced Rob would come back again soon it served his purpose and now his solo career is continuing on. I think it was right for Rob to come back at that time as they couldn't keep playing that mystery card it needed to happen otherwise people wouldn't care as much. Commercially it was the right choice but like you say has perhaps hindered TT in the long run but it's out of the way and done now. I think Jason appeal has been perhaps under estimated as a lot of their appeal is connecting to the individual personalities as well as musical attributes. The best would be for Greatest Hits Vol 2 2006 - present comes out with a lead single with Rob on it. One single isn't a big commitment and the video could be another Never Forget montage possibly. Will Rob join them though if he sees them as tainted? Maybe if they repeated BW it would do something but I think the vast general public need reminding of the good Take That and that is the songs. They have had to run for cover as they are in a losing situation where they get battered every time they are on TV or an article on them positive or otherwise appears.

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatSo unfortunately Let in the Sun didn't chart top 100 and was the only song performed on the night at The Brits not to chart as Madonna charted and others went up multiple places. Kanye new track wasn't available. If they can't get a song to chart after The Brit awards then the omens don't look good. Every reunion album post 2006 has had at least 2 charting songs regardless of where they were placed. I've heard many people say that it just isn't Take That anymore just the three of them and I think the tax issue now clearly has had an effect and the way they handled it also with the silence. An announcement saying how much has been paid back etc should have been made with an apology as unless I'm completely wrong I think it would be sincere or at least hoping that's the case. I mean on twitter when they came on it was full of jokes 'Take Tax' 'Tax That' 'the ticker tape reigning down is the money they owe' 'I'm sure there were more of them?' etc etc The album however went up three places which is at least something and still means the album is being sold off just the one lead off song if no others are breaking into the national charts. Agree that if they aren't performing on the show it's pointless. McBusted were there this week as just the announcers and it looks like a waste of time for the musicians doing that. Mark has said they are doing new music so they clearly saw that a 4 year gap was too long as pop moves on however if it's the three of them I think it'll be equal sales wise or more than likely less as they slide backwards. I know people will say 'it's not about sales/chart positions' etc but the band themselves have said they want to remain relevant and have commercial success.

Get Ready For It | Single #2 | lll
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatOn Jan 22nd they put on the band twitter that Let in the Sun is the second single and the Official Charts Company website also put an article up on the 20th saying the same. I don't think GRFI is a full release but a promo single for film/album maybe.

Take That - General Chart Topic
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take That127 week of release in 2006 selling 5,000 copies and from their old label. I hope Take That & Party finally goes 3 x platinum as it's been 870,000 for SO long now in the UK! At least all three original studio albums together have sold 60,000 in 9 years.

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatGood thing in some small way is that III has re-peaked in Denmark at 23 this week much better than 56. I think the other side of Christmas might help the album as outside the UK/Ireland countries won't think of TT as Christmas gifts and so now maybe some attention will come to it.

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatYes finally top 40 which is great as top 40 has more of a presence just like here. Hopefully GRFI will get promo as hot on heels end of this month. Album wise in Europe based on known certified certifications and excluding the UK it reads like this: Greatest Hits: 915,000 Everything Changes: 850,000 Nobody Else: 850,000 Progress: 515,000 Beautiful World: 325,000 The Circus: 135,000 Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection: 45,000 Take That & Party: no minimum certified from other countries. I think the album still has a chance to get to The Circus level maybe by the end of the singles.

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatWhen they release a Greatest Hits I hope it's 2006 - present and not the idea of a best of as that can always come later afterwards. They might be thinking of a best of as they would like Jason and Robbie involved for a potential tour but it'd be nice to have the second chapter represented in a greatest hits. It's difficult to think what could be the third single from the album and I wonder if they will still do promo/tour in Europe.

New Album 'III', lead single 'These Days'
nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatGary might have been a bit patronising but at least he allowed all of them bar Jason who the old manager probably didn't want singing a lead a #1 UK single each. Did Boyzone, N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, East 17 etc write and then give each member a moment in the spotlight other than the usual two in a band trading verses single after single? I agree it's obvious that Robbie would have gone solo he mentioned as much from very early interviews as jest which turned to seriousness. His story from Take That propelled him and gave him the fire and drive, even hate for Gary/Nigel to go on to bigger things. I agree Mark/Howard were suited to their #1 singles and Robbie to Could it be magic and Everything Changes. Mark suits The Day after Tomorrow also from Nobody Else. When Mark over reaches vocally I agree it is awful though I like Do It All For Love and think that song particular suits him. Gary is definitely seen as the lead singer and I know older fans who only like the Gary led tracks. On the documentary Gary had no songs on Progress this was realised and he took vocals for Eight Letters, the Robbie heaviness of Progress I believe was Gary rectifying the mistakes of the 90's but Gary wrote Take That hits. Robbie wanted hip hop and grunge/Britpop tracks for Take That and Nobody else has him rap a little to accommodate this but as a whole TT sound it would never have worked. The lyrics Robbie showed Gary at the time were more in line with Nirvana Gary said. After tonight and X Factor I think Rule the World could overtake Back For Good and become their biggest seller in the UK another milestone for the comeback era.

nirvanamusic posted a post in a topic in Robbie Williams and Take That's Robbie Williams and Take ThatIn at #39 in Italy where their album chartings look like this: Italy Nobody Else: 1 (3 weeks) 1995 22 weeks 4x Platinum Greatest Hits: 1 (1 week) 1996 14 weeks (no cert known) Progress: 3 2010 33 weeks PL Everything Changes: 13 1993 11 weeks PL Beautiful World: 25 2006 28 weeks G The Circus: 32 2008 8 weeks III: 39 2014 Yes it would be nice if all the III peaks move up and hopefully they will but at least the album is charting in countries. If you compare them to Boyzone who granted weren't as big as TT in Europe but still a big boyband of the time Take That are consistently charting in foreign fields with or without Robbie and now also Jason. The second single is coming in January I think and hopefully the film will do well overseas also to boost exposure to the track.
