Elton John & Britney Spears - Hold Me Closer
I wish Britney at least had her own solo section but she compliments Elton very well. It’s great to see her dipping her toe back into the world of music on her own terms. It’s a good modern update of a classic, although I do prefer Cold Heart.

Sam Ryder - Somebody
I thought he’d have released something a bit more rock-y after all the Space Man performances. I enjoy it though and it still seems like a song that’s a crowd pleaser, I can see it peaking around #27.

Joel Corry & Becky Hill - HISTORY
Oxford Dictionary definition: “a famous and successful singer or performer of pop music” Anne-Marie, Mimi Webb, Mabel, Raye, Ella Henderson etc are all popstars. It doesn’t mean you’re an international superstar, it means your job is releasing and performing pop songs, which is what Becky Hill does.

Australian Reality TV Discussion
E4 are going to be airing the 2020 series of Big Brother Australia. I can’t believe all these international reality series are now airing in the UK and we STILL don’t get Big Brother US anywhere… (I mean I’d prefer Big Brother Canada but given US seems more likely)

The future of Big Brother UK

The future of Big Brother UK
Backdoor evictions was possibly the worst Channel 5 invention. Having someone be evicted on the spot at the most random moment on the most random basis with zero fanfare really takes away the drama and from the investment viewers have put into the series. I know producers need to adapt the series as it progresses but the show needs a lot more structure than was given to it in most of the latter C5 series where they just threw everything at the wall to see what stuck. At the end of the day, shows like Love Island, I’m a Celebrity and The Apprentice have structures in their format where viewers know what is coming up but they still stay loyal to the shows.

The future of Big Brother UK
The way they’ve got me so hyped just because it’s becoming official (rumoured formal announcement is during Love Island tonight). I’m going to be such a clown in 15 months time when it’s just Love Island-lite.

The future of Big Brother UK
Newspapers are reporting the deal has been agreed with ITV and a new series will air next year which will go back to basics and feature ‘everyday people’ and have less challenges. They’re also wanting a presenter not associated with the show (i.e. no Rylan) which links in with the previous rumour of Mo Gilligan. Great news to have the show back, and the civilian version at that. I just worry that they are reporting it will be for the ‘Love Island generation’. The main point of the show is to have people from all different backgrounds, not identikit wannabe influencers. If it’s just going to be Love Island in a studio set on a parking lot, I’d rather it stayed off air.

Jesy leaves Polydor - Update: in talks with other labels
If she’d gone pop, she’d have stood way more of a chance of having success. Of course it’s fine to make music you want to make but she has to be prepared that she’s not going to be that global artist (which she appears desperate to be seen as) if she sticks with the 90s hip-hop style. You have to play the game in parts unless you have a clear vision that you’re able to perfect, which isn’t going to happen here. She has no connections with the genre she’s trying to do. It comes across as inauthentic and continues the blackfishing accusations which is currently the biggest hindrance to any success (and a lesson she’s clearly never going to learn!).

Bastille - Give Me The Future
£45 for the vinyl Always happy for more music but not this being third version. I don’t really get the point of why they released the previous deluxe edition if the new track and interlude was part of Dreams of the Past, unless it was meant as more of a tease for this extra project.

House of the Dragon
I’m intrigued but also feeling a bit lacklustre about this. Hopefully the length of time that has passed since the GOT finale means they’ve spent time to get this right, rather than rushing it out to build on the GOT hype. At the same time though, I struggle to get excited about prequels unless they have the opportunity to be their own thing in their own right. I’m not sure what the case is here. I just hope it does take off though because Matt Smith can’t catch a break when it comes to joining franchises, aside from the obvious.
