There’s obviously lots that has gone on behind the scenes that we don’t know about and, especially for a Vegas residency, there’s gonna have been a lot of key players. At least one of those players has massively f***ed up (likely insisting the show go ahead despite it never being in a position to do so), especially given the whole residency is postponed. This is more than Covid! It did seem like it was announced very close to when it was due to take place, and particularly placing it in the middle of an album campaign was a interesting choice. I think it’s this girl who missed out on seeing her like four times  @1484522785397358594
  2. I only envisage it like a Marvel/Star Wars style limited series, separate to the main show. I know RTD previously spoke about how Doctor Who should be embracing an MCU style with spin-offs etc. This could work but at the same time, how do you differentiate it from the main show? It would have to be a continuous storyline but… the main show has just done that oops I think it’s just a case of trying to put two and two together though, given the old team is back and David is the Tom Baker of new-Who.
  3. Oh gosh, the gangs back together! If there’s anyone I have trust in to keep things fresh though, it’s RTD!

Doctor Who coming to rise :cheeseblock:

It consolidated to 4.3m which I think is the lowest rating since the revival. Admittedly, not great but it was likely affected by airing so close after Flux. Casual viewers may have expected it was carrying on the Flux storyline and not bothered with it. Shouldn’t read too much into anyway as there’s only two more episodes of the era left before another big relaunch that will have a big marketing push. It was also still within the Top 30 programmes of the week (whereas episodes of Series 12 fell out) which highlights the decrease in ratings across the board.

Thanks Mack, I’ve pinned the thread. I miss the days where each night was publicly available
  7. oops Hard Drive Gold is my favourite since This is All Yours

I think we’re in an era that is very content driven and about continually releasing and getting music out there. I think framing it as a mixtape is therefore more an excuse (by both the artist and the label) to release more music without having the same level of scrutiny that goes into an album era. If the music takes off, great but if it doesn’t they can just write it off as more of an experimentation/something for the fans until they launch the next proper era. It’s like the halfway house between an EP and an album. It’s also a tool to get artist’s names out there, again without the scrutiny of a debut album. There’s a lot more new artists now getting some form of hit singles and following them up with EPs/mixtapes rather than an actual album. I know that was the intention of Olivia Rodrigo until Driver’s License became so huge it would be impossible not to capitalise on.
  9. Potentially, it depends on the operating model. If it wanted to continue as it is, as a channel, most likely. It'll likely follow the Channel 4 model where it is state owned but it has adverts and all profits go back to creating content.
  10. Whatever your views on the BBC/Licence fee model, the idea of using the Netflix model as an alternative is ridiculous in my view. I don't know the full ins and outs of it but Netflix has borrowed $16 billion and is in $10-15 billion debt - it's a high risk business model to switch to. The BBC can currently take risks under the current model and make shows that appeal to different sections of society as it doesn't need to be concerned as much about the commercial side of things. I do worry about the future of British content, both TV and radio without the BBC operating as we know it today. Yes, there are multiple failings in certain areas but, on the whole, it provides an excellent service across a range of platforms. It is particularly the home of prestige drama that can and in fact is competing with American shows and yet many of these are unlikely to have been made if the BBC wasn't what it is. Even stuff like The One Show was CRUCIAL during the heights of the pandemic in providing the crucial information in an easy to explain way and to address concerns, as well as providing a source of comfort for many people.
  11. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2022/jan/...-funding-frozen Opening a thread here for discussion from a more non-political view if possible i.e. how the BBC can operate, whether we need the licence fee, whether alternative models are sustainable, how this will affect British culture - we have the News & Politics forum for the politics of this.
  12. Danny Dyer is as likely as Kris Marshall. We’re in that period where someone leaves a high profile job and so immediately get attached to the Doctor job.

Yeh, I think the BBC are still keen to make them but this is a result of BBC America pulling out so they need to find another partner before they can make any more. I thought it would have been odd as I know animation for The Web of Fear was done with a view to seeing how it could work for the more challenging stories. I think the ones remaining are those that will be harder to do on the current budget restrictions or are the less popular stories. I’m grateful to have the ones that we do have though as it’s helped fill in a lot of gaps and helps me experience more stories. I’ve seen all the surviving episodes but struggle to get away with the missing stories without something more visual. The Macra Terror has been one of my favourite stories of classic Who yet I know it was near the bottom of many people’s lists before the animation

I agree, I thought it was a brilliant concept! The execution was dire though - the mixed teams should put a stop to the brown and green  I thought both apps were really dull but I think it is an example of where they are limited by the format. I can’t imagine they had the capacity/ability to create anything more engaging. That kind of feeds into the negativity points as sometimes they are criticised for something that is a result of not having the necessary tools at hand or the time required to do something properly!
  15. Shut Off the Lights is yet another banger, so catchy and joyful!

It’s a fun interactive format, that’s quite tense too. There’s a LOT of quiz shows on at the moment so it’s good to have one that has more interactivity with the answers rather than another standard Q&A with a pointless gimmick. The only issue it falls foul of not having easy to explain rules which is likely going to harm it but it is simple once you understand how it works! It’s good to see Ant & Dec finally present another show that isn’t Takeaway/BGT/I’m a Celeb.
  21. I hope Take Care of You is at least on there, it did decent enough!

That logo I think it’s already an Apprentice classic! I agree that the firing was entirely unfair given he was actually against the logo and offered an alternative. I agree he was maybe too disruptive in his approach but it’s odd not to fire someone responsible for the logo. Having said that, I don’t think he’s a huge loss. So so happy to see it back. I adore it so much and it never gets old, especially with candidates like these…
  23. It’s another collab with Wilkinson, there’s a teaser on her stories (gonna guess it’s called Here for You)! Shame that Through the Night isn’t getting a push but given the way that streaming services treat post-album singles, it might be better for her to sadly move on (summing up how ridiculous and frustrating ‘eras’ are in the modern music world!)

Updated figures are that Doctor Who has been streamed over 50m times over the past year, with Flux getting 7m streams so far!
