Really enjoyed that, definitely my favourite of the Dalek New Years trilogy. I love time loop/Groundhog Day stuff anyway but it allowed it to be more of a fun romp and stripped back after of the chaos of Flux. I think I’ll have to dive deeper on some of the plot points as I might have missed certain parts but it was definitely a lot of fun to watch. Absolutely loved Aisling Bea, she brought so much life to the episode and some really funny moments, definitely one of the best guest stars the show has had! Speaking of which, actually shook at Chibnall only having two proper guest stars (with an added cameo)! It really made all the difference and I wonder how other episodes this era would have been improved with a more stripped back guest cast. I was actually really surprised at there being such Thasmin development as it’s always been something that I thought Twitter just latched onto from nowhere, although I do wonder if it has become a thing because of that. I’m intrigued as to where it’s leading to given there’s only a couple of episodes left - maybe one of them sacrificing themselves for the other. Yaz has come into her own since Ryan/Graham left but I do still think some of the development could be more explicit. There’s stuff that she does in the background that shows more of her character, e.g. essentially beaming when the Doctor was standing up to the Dalek the first time they met tonight rather than being scared. It can be so subtle that you wonder if it’s just Mandip just taking things into her own hands… Was not expecting the Sea Devils to return! It was something heavily rumoured by fans for Series 12, so I again wonder if that came first or it was Chibnall’s intention all along  It does make me laugh how Series 11 have no returning monsters but now Jodie has since come across Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Weeping Angels, the Master, Judoon, Ood and now Sea Devils.
  3. Always excited for Bastille but the messy release strategy of the era has really watered down the hype for me. Hoping Florence releases this year, it feels like the right timing!

  7. Let’s do this soon :ptingxmas:
  8. That was my first thought too!
  9. RTD has confirmed (although rule no. 1 the showrunners lie x) that they’ve just started auditioning for the Fourteenth Doctor! He’s written a few of the episodes for the next series but confirmed the first episode of the new era will be the 60th anniversary episode.
  10. The vinyl is being released in January so maybe they’ll push for something alongside that?

Doctor Who was the seventh most streamed boxset on iPlayer this year with 41.8m streams. The figures don’t include December so I’m sure this will miss out a significant proportion of streams for Flux!

No it won’t because it’s all comparative! Jodie had higher to fall from than Capaldi, ratings across the board are largely in a different place and it’s performing similarly on the weekly charts in terms of position. I’m not blinded that it’s not at it’s peak and that it could be doing better but it’s a drama that’s soon celebrating 60 years and has been on for 16 years in it’s current iteration, outlasting hundreds of shows during that time. It’s extremely rare for a drama to maintain high ratings. I think dramas like Silent Witness, Call the Midwife and Death in Paradise are the only ones really coming to mind but none of them have ever played a real part in pop culture. The ones in charge of actually making the decision have ordered an additional episode to be one of the centrepieces of their 100th birthday celebrations as well as preparing plans for the show for at least up to three more years. That’s a huge showing of confidence in the show. It just makes little sense to be so concerned at this stage in light of the BBC’s continued confidence in it. They’re literally making the decision, not anyone else

There’s sooo many factors to think of in scheduling. Call the Midwife and the BBC One Line of Duty series have outrated all new series of Doctor Who so you would be overshadowing the series and drowning it out amongst hype for those shows. You want the show to be, if possible, the focus of the day. Strictly’s results show does lower than the Saturday show but it’s still over 8m and amongst the highest on TV now. Also, schedulers aren’t going to out all their high profile shows for the year on one night - they’re going to space them out and use them as a springboard for new shows. This is literally the worst time to talk about cancellation as we know the show is lasting until at least 2024. How many other dramas get to say that? If it was in so much danger then this is a perfect end point for the show with the departure of the main cast and the producers. Instead, they’ve asked for an additional episode and creating a whole new springboard for the show from 2023. RTD is so passionate about the show that he wouldn’t want to be the person who revived it and then killed it again

Bring back that hat for !!!

They’re not going to revolve their entire annual schedule around Doctor Who  It doesn’t really make a difference anyway as this series led into Strictly aka the BBC’s most reliable and popular entertainment show. Less people are watching a show on the specific timeslot, I remember discussion for other series that the actual ‘live’ viewers who watched it as it aired was at least 1m less than the overnights.

The Christmas hats must have had to go into isolation this year :o
  18. Also, for the following season it then sank down to figures that are the same/worse than what the show is getting now. It’s completely unreliable to do a like-for-like of figures with the classic series, the best measurement is placing in the weekly chart as Joseph is doing.
  19. Yes, absolutely!! I have lots of time off :kink:
  20. No that’s how he’s credited, it’s another one of his methods of chart abuse to get more singles eligible to chart x
  21. Yeh, ratings are largely down across the board this year (although I’m a Celebrity is perhaps suffering the biggest brunt of it!). I think the show can do better but it’s comparatively doing well on the weekly charts, especially for a drama that has been going for 16 years and counting in its current run. I definitely see the Timeless Child storyline returning in the specials, Jo Martin heavily hinted in one of the behind the scenes videos that she’ll be back. It’s the overarching storyline for the era, like the cracks with Matt Smith, so it would be bizarre for them not to return to it in Jodie’s final episodes.
