It did make me laugh when James J was saying 'you're not going to leave though, if you wanted to leave, the doors right there'. So true, if he really wanted to leave, and wasn't just doing it to guarantee camera time, then the fire exit is right there.
His diary room meltdown also reminded me of Bear's one.

Happy Valley was a huge hit back in 2014 and that first series was one of my favourites of the last few years. The storyline was incredibly gripping and engaging and I've never been on the edge of my seat more than during the final moments of the fourth episode. The second series that was broadcast in 2016 therefore had a difficult challenge to live up to the incredible quality of the first series and, whilst it didn't match the same strengths, it was still an epic series in its own right. This time around, we encountered a number of different storylines rather than the one that was the focus of the first series. The interplay of these different storylines worked well and they allowed Catherine to remain the centre of all of them. My particular highlight was the storyline surrounding the Detective Sergeant who had to investigate the murder that he actually committed. This lead to a tense finale when his secret was revealed leading to a chase from Catherine.
Overall, it overcame the difficult second series problem a lot better than some of its counterparts (namely Broadchurch) and this success was down to being able to naturally follow and explore the fallout from the previous series' events whilst introducing new engaging and interesting storylines that were able to run alongside that. It explored further how nasty and manipulative Tommy Lee Royce can be through using his charmful ways to attract lovers and use them to target Catherine. Sarah Lancashire was once again fantastic in the role of Catherine and it will probably be one of her career defining roles as she is able to carry the series so well. I'm excited to see where the next series will lead us and to see the effects on Catherine's grandson.

If that's the case they should use that time to actually change the album. I would keep Hotter Than Hell, Blow Your Mind & Be the One on there but remove the other tracks that we've heard, maybe keeping a couple of them as bonus tracks. If they're pushing it back, it means they'll be another single before it is released and so there's only four songs that haven't been released. That especially means that they'll be no lifespan for the album beyond its release date.
Its an actual joke the way that this campaign has been handled.

YES! Definitely the best episode since Series 2! Thought Toby Jones was excellent as the villain, who was definitely the best villain aside from Moriarty. Loved that it seemed as though Sherlock was one step ahead of him but then he would be one step ahead of Sherlock and it would continue like that throughout!
Still think that the cheating thing with Watson in the last episode was and bit forced in to set up the twist in this episode but it was still an excellent twist as I never thought the three characters were played by the same person which highlights the strength of the actress! Particularly never suspected that Faith was two different people!
Looking forward to the finale, hopefully it will be the end of all the 'miss me?' everywhere

I like James C and I really hope that he stays which I think he will do. Yeh, he's not the most entertaining housemate because he's not in your face like Austin, Speidi or Stacy but I think he just needs more time to shine and he'll do so when the house gets smaller. I'm keen to hear more of his stories.
The series isn't the most exciting but, at the same time, it's also kind of like what the Channel 4 series were like which is what everyone has been wanting! For the most part, the producers are actually letting things happen naturally which is great to see and is what I've been wanting to happen for a long time. I'm thrilled that there's been no home truth tasks or who said this because they just got beyond a joke last year when it was happening every single day. They're starting to crack in there, which is the natural time to do so and its going to get more interesting as it goes along. We're just so used to everything kicking off on the first day now that this slower pace is unusual. I think this series is on for 5 weeks as well so we've still get plenty of time to get some good moments.
I really hope Austin goes even though it won't happen although there is a small chance considering its a different series and he doesn't exactly have a fanbase. He's just a horrible person as particularly shown every time he gets drunk.

Never expected Let It Shine to get that much! Was expecting 3-4m, I guess that and The Voice ratings show that a some people may just have BBC One on as a default channel.
Eek, what happened to Sherlock as well? Of course it will beat them in the official ratings but I would never have thought that Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow and Let it Shine would beat it in the overnights!

LIP SYNC BATTLE UK
Broadcast: 8th January - 12th February, 20th December
Episodes: 7
Channel: Channel 5
Ratings: 2.36m - 1.05m
http://www.spyit.it/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/nintchdbpict000291757432-400x230.jpg
Lip Sync Battle is based on a segment from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and features stars lip-syncing to their favourite songs. It’s basically a show that does what it says on the tin except that they also dress up for one of their two performances, often with a full-on dance routine to go along with it. While the US has seen Dwayne Johnson, Ben Kingsley, Anne Hathaway, Anna Kendrick and Channing Tatum among other big name stars, the UK hasn’t been as lucky which is probably due to its airing on Channel 5.
Hosted by Mel B and Professor Green, the UK version has only been even more odd with its pick of celebrities and they are mostly all quintessentially British. From Johnny Vegas to Michelle Keegan, the show may have a better line-up than the channel’s celebrity reality show but it’s nothing to set headlines alight. The show itself is also an extremely odd watch because it is just half an hour of people lip-syncing to four songs in total. A concept that is fun for 5/10 minutes, as it was in the original form but it not something that can extend to a full half-hour show. The quick cuts and camera movements also make for a horribly directed show that fails to take into account the premise of the show. The pans, the cuts to the audiences and Professor Green doing bits to the camera during the performance means that we hardly actually see the celebrity lip-syncing. Instead, they’re just on stage, sometimes dancing, to a song that is being played.
It is a very marmite show and not one that I returned to after the first episode. I have been prone to watch little clips but that’s as far as I will go as its not worth watching for half an hour imo. The show did impress in the ratings though due to its scheduling between episodes of Celebrity Big Brother and it managed to get around ~2m. The ratings did gradually decrease though and ended with a low of 1.05m for its final episode.

SHERLOCK: THE ABOMINABLE BRIDE
Broadcast: January 1st
Channel: BBC One
Ratings: 11.6m
First off is Sherlock which returned on New Year's Day last year for a one-off special which was set in the more traditional Victorian period. It therefore looked like it would have no connection to the overall series until a twist about halfway through explored the fact that it was actually set in Sherlock’s mind. In fact, we learnt that the whole episode took place in the four minute period that Sherlock left and returned in the plane. I hadn’t been particularly excited by the notion of a Victorian special, I felt that it had been done hundreds of times before and there had only been (at that point) 10 episodes in a 7 year time span, making it feel like it was robbing us of a modern day episode. However, it did initially exceed my expectations especially as it allowed the show to focus on one mystery, something that Series 3 failed to give us. The Victorian setting also allowed there to be a more spooky tone which is something I really enjoyed. The initial mystery focuses on a bride who killed herself but has apparently returned from the grave to kill others...
The return to the modern day setting halfway through therefore annoyed me and the fact that it kept flitting between the two periods annoyed me even more. It restricted the enjoyment of the episode as I was embracing the Victorian setting and getting enthralled in the story only for it to end up being completely disrupted. Steven Moffatt’s time on Doctor Who has seen him play a lot with time in the episodes and it was an unfortunate and unnecessary feature that was brought into this episode of Sherlock. It would have been better to have the majority of the episode set in the Victorian period and then maybe switch to the modern day period for the last 10 minutes.
Overall, the episode had a lot of potential but was undermined by an unnecessary wish to subvert audience expectations and force in an overarching story. It is a problem that featured in Series 3 and may be continuing in Series 4. It did at least help set the background for Series 4 in that the story set in the Victorian period helps showcase that Moriaty did actually die but others are working on his behalf... (at least that's what the episode leads us to believe :o)

Throughout January, I will hopefully be showcasing the highs and lows of TV in 2016 from my perspective. It may have been a disastrous year in other respects but it gave us some great TV! As always though, there were also some let's say... odd moments. I'll be trying to cover as much as I can so why not feel free to offer your opinions and verdicts as I take a look at the world of TV in 2016!

Also, have we seen that Nicola McLean did her first series for free?
Narinder Kaur (BB2 & Brian Dowlings friend) initially said it after Nicola's launch night comment but I didn't believe it. However, Denise Welch basically hinted at it on BOTS as well as Rylan. There's also Katie Price saying last year that she knew someone who went in for £1,500 and I think her and Nicola know each other.

lol I think its clear that Jody Latham definitely did pull out because I think its cheating to call Jedward '2 new housemates' when they are one official housemate. I was just thinking earlier as well that it was odd that they managed to keep the second new housemate a secret when everyone else had been revealed. :')
Jedward plugging their new single was one of the most bizarre entrances. I think Channel 5 must have given them that extra half hour show in order to help Lip Sync Battle's ratings but, without an eviction, Channel 5 were unsure how to fill it which is why there was that half-arsed nominations thing (can't even call it a twist anymore because its the usual).
Jedward can be incredibly annoying because they have no respect but I do think they can bring some fun in there and it'll be interesting to see how people like Speidi and James J react to that uncontrollable and unnormal behaviour.
What is worse than Jedward though is there large legion of deluded fans who think they're incredibly talented and produce amazing and moving songs.
-x-
That watergate was ridiculous and it reminded me how much I dislike Austin, especially drunk Austin (dunno if they had alcohol or not at the party but his behaviour was very much like when he was drunk before). He was getting angry and dramatic over nothing and it reeks of trying to get screen time. It also reminded me how annoying Spencer is because once he knows someone is annoyed at him, he just goes and goes and goes and goes at them.
It is funny that the bottled water brand is one of the product placement sponsors though! Nothing fishy there... :)

So rather than bringing back Tiffany from that series, they'd rather bring back someone who did nothing, never really spoke about the Kardashians (iirc) and WALKED because he felt claustrophobic. How are they sure he won't get claustrophobic again this time especially when the house has only got SMALLER because of the second house
I kind of understand Jedward because they do seem to be aiming for a bit of fun alongside all the drama and there's also not really anyone else that stands out from that non event of a series. Can't be having Kerry doing her 20th reality show.
-
Seen a lot of mixed reviews but I quite enjoyed it! It wasn't up to the standards of the first two episodes but it was better than most of Series 3 (including the special). Largely down to the fact that it was returning to dedicating the episode to one long mystery. I get the want and need for character development and long running plots but I really think the show should be about one mystery covering the entire episode. It doesn't work to just have a long running storyline as the main basis for the episodes like they're basically doing since the start of Series 3 when you're only doing 3 episodes every 2/3 years. Hopefully next week is back on track, it seems so based on the trailer.
The bit with Watson and the woman on the bus was a bit random, it'll probably be explored in the next two episodes but as a standalone, it really stood out to be as unnecessary and random.
-
I'm not sure how to feel really, I definitely feel less excited than I usually am! The new stars feel so random for the most part and it definitely feels like the show has 'ran out' of people willing to take part which is not surprising, especially after the last summer CBB. However, I am absolutely THRILLED that no one from TOWIE, Geordie Shore or Ex on the Beach is in (at least not yet) so the show's off on a good start from that perspective. We also don't have a one-dimensional character that just shouts one word over and over and over and over. Ray J does actually look more entertaining than I thought he'd be and, despite being an absolute nobody and only being there on the basis of Ray J, Stacy has the potential. Not quite sure that Ray J is deserving of being paid $1m though!!!!
I think there is a good mix of all stars, they wouldn't be my preferences but they are all big personalities. I think my lack of excitement does comes from the fact that we already know what they are all like and none of them were my favourites from their respective series either. I do like the fact that they all come from different series though, it would have been easy to chuck two housemates from the same series who had a storyline together which would mean a significant amount of each episode would focus on that. However, I guess they have put those connections in elsewhere e.g. Calum & his mum, Calum & Bianca, Ray J & Stacy.
I hope Speidi do actually have fun and join in this time, it probably helps that they're the ones in power and aren't in the basement this time round. I was enjoying them a lot more in the launch episode because they were getting involved. I despise Coleen though, have mixed opinions on James J & Nicola and grew to hate Austin in his series so this should be fun! I did like the concept of the launch night task even if the result was a variation on the most common of launch night tasks (excluding somebody) so I hope they do more with it. Its already interesting that they're calling the other house 'The Task Building' now!
It did make me laugh when I saw someone (think it was Emma Kennedy) tweet that 'All Stars' is more just previous CBB housemates that have done nothing since they appeared in the show which is basically true! Aside from Coleen who remained on Loose Women.
Celebrity Big Brother Series 19
in Television
Speidi were able to do so well last time because the ENTIRE house were against them which meant the whole series could be about them. It also helped that all the housemates bar them & Rylan were bland overall whereas this time, there are bigger characters and they're not isolating Speidi so is kind of a different game that they're playing.
My guess is Speid's gameplan this series is to be more background characters during the first two week and rely on public support from last time to help them survive evictions. Then, when there are fewer people in there, they can come to the forefront. If the series is 5 weeks, it makes sure that they won't burnout.
