Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits
I find his voice doesn’t really fit the song, it feels too soft and is drowned out by the music. It needs a more powerful voice to really make it a BIG pop song. tbh I’m kinda put off by the copying the After Hours aesthetic too. idk the whole thing feels a bit disingenuous - I guess you could say he can’t win though because he’d be criticised for being boring otherwise but stuff like Castle on the Hill and Sing shows he can do big pop songs whilst staying ‘truer’ to himself.

Griff - One Foot in Front of the Other
Yes, definitely do! The Zedd song is the only one I dislike and can’t get into oops

MARINA - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
A real strong return to form for me, after Love and Fear existed. I’d have liked a couple more songs to so we could have a couple more upbeat ones but I think that maybe more due to the rollout of the campaign - we essentially got 4/5 of the upbeat ones pre-album. Ancient Dreams and Venus Flu Trap are amongst her very best though, absolutely addicted  I didn’t realise she and Jack had split which is really sad, and brings a lot of meaning to those slower songs. :( 10 Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land 11 Venus Fly Trap 08 Man's World 07 Purge The Poison 10 Highly Emotional People 09 New America 07 Pandora's Box 08 I Love You But I Love Me More 08 Flowers 09 Goodbye

Griff - One Foot in Front of the Other
A strong collection of songs but I understand now why they’ve gone for this mixtape, rather than a full album. It feels very much a continuation of the Mirror Talk EP, almost to the point where it feels a couple of songs are sampling Mirror Talk tracks. There’s nothing as strong as Black Hole but One Foot in Front of the Other, Remembering My Dreams and Earl Grey Tea are my other standout faves. I’ve really loved her output so far though, such an exciting popstar that’s emerging. She’s so talented, such strong hooks and her involvement with the production side of things in particular is great. I’m glad y’all are finally paying attention to her after my thread last year passed without comment -_-: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=237048 Say It Again still remains such a strong fave but Sound of Your Voice, Forgive Myself and 1,000,000 X Better are all incredible too.

So hyped, adore nearly everything they put out

Lorde vs Lana vs Billie
Lorde, definitely. Two albums of perfection that are doing different things, with a third looking to do something different as well. I saw Greg James tweet that Green Light essentially completed pop music  The only proper misfire is the deluxe tracks to Pure Heroine, which I think came from the EP? Lana suffers from having too much material for me as it’s very overwhelming when the difference between the styles of the songs are subtle at first listen. I’m similar to Jay where I’ve heavily listened to some albums but then not listened to others at all. BTD and NFR have always been on regular repeat. I’ve listened to Chemtrails a few times (moreso because of NFR) and Ultraviolence once. I’ve never properly gone into Honeymoon or LFL (despite adoring the two lead singles). I’ve not bothered with the three latest singles either. Billie, I can very much take or leave. I really didn’t get her at the start, then Bad Guy was undeniable. Everything I Wanted is incredible and I’m a massive fan of Therefore I Am. I can then take or leave the rest, not really here for what seems to be the MOR era though. Lorde: Green Light Lana: Ride Billie: Everything I Wanted

Mabel - Let Them Know
It is a very fun listen but the lyrics are absolutely terrible, the rhyming business with business two times is the most clunky for me. I also find the transition from ‘haters look teeny tiny’ to the chorus so sudden, as if it’s just skipped ahead and missed a pre-chorus or something. She was getting better with every release up to the high point of Don’t Call Me Up and it seems there’s just been a downward spiral since then. It genuinely feels each release is worse than the one before. I do enjoy this but I know she can do so much better. I do agree there’s been a lot of studying of other pop stars campaigns, particularly Dua of course.

Marshmello & Khalid - Numb
Here for this as I adore Silence! Although not heard anything from Marshmellow since Here With Me

MARINA - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
Venus Fly Trap and Ancient Dreams really have been a return to form for me, I’m addicted to them both. Really feels like the most natural progression from Froot. Both so much fun, with an incredibly fun video for Venus Fly Trap to match. Can’t believe the album is tomorrow, so hyped!

The STATE of the album chart~
I think it’s a shame to artists that put so much work into creating a body of work only for it to spend 2 weeks Top 100 because people are streaming singles which is the sole reason many albums then stay in the chart. It’s really diminishing what an album should be. omg so this is why the music video chart always seems to reset itself to 2008 with Peter Kay’s Animated Band, Single Ladies, Bad Boys etc I always think whose even buying them and its always the same random songs from 10+ years ago

Jessie J - I Want Love
It actually sounds quite decent oops Her career trajectory is fascinating. I honestly thought she’d quit music eek
-
Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?
Please is absolutely incredible, up there with my favourites from the original album which is certainly saying something! So much fun in the production. Great to see a performance of it to on The One Show earlier! Really helped show off the playfulness of it. Like Hot N Heavy too, again fantastic production!

MARINA - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
Still loving Ancient Dreams, definitely my favourite of the three so far! Can’t believe the album is only one week away! 😱 Venus Fly Trap sounded so good from the clip she posted before!

MARINA - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
She’s doing a live online performance in the middle of a desert on June 13: @1395064128218099716 Not sure how comparable prices are with similar online live shows but they seem a bit more pricey for what is an online show oops. She said in her live stream that the vinyl is coming and it’s brilliant but... that was it

MARINA - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
This is my favourite so far!! The production is so fun. It feels like it was written as a song first, whereas the previous two feel they may have been written with the message first. Feels like classic Marina but definitely with the vibe of a new era. Hoping for more like this on the album, which I can’t believe is only two weeks away!

Sigrid - How To Let Go
So hyped for this! Adore everything she’s put out so far. Hoping for another big pop banger!
