Eek not sure what’s happened with this release but the versions are currently at 34 and 38 of the iTunes chart. I know it represents a tiny proportion of overall sales but it’s normally at least a good indication, I would have definitely expected to see it Top 10 at the absolute minimum. Collapsed in Sunbeams was perhaps a surprise ‘big’ seller whereas this could be a surprise underperformance :( I’ve not heard the full album yet but I’ve liked the singles so far, although admittedly not at the same highs as the debut.

ITV have announced that SNT will return next year for its 20th series but will then go on hiatus :o The show previously went on hiatus in 2009 before returning in 2013. I think this is a real shame as it feels the only (non-reality) live Saturday night entertainment show left and really defines family entertainment viewing. I get Ant & Dec might want to work on other things but this is their best show!! I’m surprised they’re still sticking with BGT if I’m honest!

I’m minded to agree. It makes for a more dramatic TV show but so does the original plan this year of having the Semi results announced X Factor style. It doesn’t mean it’s a better idea overall. I have no solution to offer as I do prefer countries essentially having two sets of points rather than one set which combines the jury & public votes. However, I’m minded to say the current presentation doesn’t work as so much time and focus is spent with the jury votes including a regular update as to the current results with interviews with the contestants, and then the public voting reveal is over in a flash with both an unfair focus on low scoring countries and then a lack of focus on those countries who shoot up the leaderboard due to being far more popular with the public than juries. I think many people’s perception of the success comes from the jury votes and it penalises the countries who are more popular with the public. Those topping the public vote like Finland and Keiino don’t get any form of interview to recognise that success yet the jury winners get several! :lol: I have no answer to solving it but I hope they can work on a better solution.

Yeah, I’d much rather be sending current sounding songs like the past 3 years than those from the You Decide days. Some will resonate and some won’t but as long as we’re actually trying and not starting from the back foot going ‘will this do?’. There were stronger songs this year in terms of actual quality and public appeal but it is just sad that this results means its seen as on par with some of the dirge we have sent recently, especially given the enthusiasm that Mae brought to the contest. It is still a risky opportunity for any upcoming artist to take in the UK (one year isn’t going to flip that on its head) so I’m thankful she did grasp it with both hands. I think we definitely need to stick with internal selection for the time being in order to work with labels to get the right standard of performer. The perception is changing but its still very early days to have a You Decide contest as labels won’t want to put forward acts if they’re going to lose. It needs to be at that level where the You Decide contest gives a good level of exposure itself for artists.

I know this issue comes up at this exact time every single year but I do think they need to consider how to present the results so the audience have a better understanding of the final results. So much time is spent on the jury results that it feels those represent how well the countries have done overall. It means you kind of miss countries who shoot up after the televote like Norway (yet again!!). I was surprised to see they came 5th after the poor jury votes. I know it’s more tense announcing it in this way but it does lose the impact of the final scoreboard! Gutted for Mae. She really doesn’t belong in the same category as some of our recent entries (and it makes me question how some of those did get more points). I hope the UK still gets behind her as she’s been amazing representation and I hope it doesn’t halt us in our tracks of getting proper artists and getting properly behind our acts!

If they ever did another All Stars, I’d definitely only want it to be a shorter Celeb style season. But yes, please keep the likes of Nicole, Cody and Christmas well and truly clear from it!

Sad for Malta but I was expecting it given its placing in the running order and it being in the tougher semi. It would have added a lot of fun to the Final, the performance really helped lift the song.

The results were last Saturday night so it is less than a full week. I should hopefully get votes in but I am struggling to find the motivation to vote as it’s been long week. It’s fully on me that I’ve left it to the last minute, and I appreciate we had the bank holiday and of course it’s absolutely necessary and important to fit around the host’s schedule, but would definitely have loved that extra day over the weekend.

Any DNQ is obviously disappointing but I can’t complain as much this time as the two songs I was wanting to send both qualified and so at least I know I am still on the right track, I just need to be quicker!
