This era also brought us a special CBBC spin-off show. No, I'm not meaning The Sarah Jane Adventures but Totally Doctor Who! This show ran for two series and was a special additional behind the scenes look at the show that ran for 13 weeks during Series 2 & 3. It was presented by CBBC favourite Barney Harwood, Blue Peter's Liz Barker and SMart's Kirsten O'Brien. It was presented in the style of a show like Blue Peter and had special guests including David Tenant, Noel Clarke, Camille Coduri, Freema Agyeman, John Barrowman, Russell T Davies and CHLOE WEBBER HERSELF. Billie Piper snubbed tho. It explored behind the scenes with special videos during the filming of the videos, it displayed fan content, showed previews of other episodes, quizzes, an Apprentice-style Companion Academy and it showed The Infinite Quest!
It's a fun little throwaway show but it perfectly highlights how massive the show immediately was to have a random spin-off magazine show!! It was also always great to get as many behind the scenes knowledge and insights.
This is an example of the episode, this one featuring David Tenant himself:
We were well and truly spoilt during this era. A series and special every year, two animations, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Doctor Who Confidential as well as Totally Doctor Who :cheeseblock:
This is compared to 2019 where we got one Doctor Who episode and.... that was it.

GOLDEN BALLS (2007-2009)
Golden Balls was a UK daytime game show presented by Jasper Carrott. Four contestants were randomly given a number of golden balls that had different cash amounts in them, ranging from £10-£75,000. There was also a number of Killer balls which would reduce the cash total in the final round. Each contestant would reveal two of their balls and then either lie or tell the truth about the values inside their remaining balls. The contestants then vote to eliminate one player - the aim of the game is to get the most cash in play for the final round and to avoid taking through the killer balls! Once two players are left, the balls in play get mixed up and each contestant must choose to eliminate a ball or keep a ball in play. Then, and this is the juicy part!!, once they have their final total, each contestant chooses to either split or steal the final amount. If both split, they each receive a share of the jackpot. If one chooses steal, and the other split, the person steals the jackpot. If both choose steal, both loose the money.
This show was incredible for a daytime show. Rather than friendly cooperation between the contestants that you see on shows like Pointless, this was all about DECEIT and how a player with two killer balls could get through to the next round. It was all about the final round though as the best and worst of humanity revealed itself. The most memorable moment of the show was when two returning players, who had previously had the jackpot stolen from them, were playing for a jackpot over £100,000. It is truly shocking and devasting TV:

Let's take a look back at the last decade before the rise of streaming and where you really did have a chance to actually work through your list of good TV recommendations rather than it piling up in this new age of peak TV.
I'm going to share some of my random picks but this also a chance to share some of your favourite TV shows of the decade!

Clara wasn’t a character for Series 7 but I did enjoy her in the other two series. She’s not up there with the best companions though and I do agree she did become completely dominant. She went from 0-100
Actually, I see that re Series 7 but she had more characterisation than Ruan & Yaz in Series 11

The 2000s saw another iconic book franchise published, A Series of Unfortunate Events. The series saw the author take a particularly lead role despite never appearing in the actual action. It help to create this mystique around the world that he was building and drew in the reader with it! The series followed three orphans (Violet, Klaus and Sunny) in a story you really don't want to read. They are passed from carer to carer, starting with the evil Count Olaf who then always turns up in some form of disguise alongside his villainous troupe, before the orphans go on the run! There was so much fun to be had with the novels as the reader wanted to find out more about mysteries such as VFD, the fires, what was in the sugar bowl and the Great Unknown. It was only until the TV series that recently aired on Netflix that we actually got the remaining answers we needed!
I've read the books so many times and I love them so much! There's nothing else like it out there and I just love the tone of the books and actually how dark it could get! I just loved being involved in the mystery and finding all the hidden clues in the text, the covers and the pictures as well as the dedications to Beatrice! There's so many incredible characters within it as well such as Carmelita and Esme!
What are your memories and which is your favourite book?

which songs or artists can you not believe where even a THING in the 2000s?
i know you always get the occasional novelty songs but a song about fast food restaurants is one of the most bizarre
i remember being so confused when this got to #1 and that's when i didn't even know what it meant!

We also got given two special full length animations!
The Infinite Quest
This starred the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones as they set off on an adventure through space to find the datachips to unlock The Infinite, a huge spaceship that can grant people their heart's desire. However, the evil Baltazar is also searching for the ship. This was first shown on Totally Doctor Who!
Dreamland
This saw the Tenth Doctor visit 1950s America and Area 51 before the Eleventh did! It also starred David Tenant's now wife (and Peter Davison's daughter) Georgia Tenant.
and... BONUS Scream of the Shalka
After materialising in the village of Lannet in Lancashire, the Doctor, along with local barmaid Alison and her boyfriend Joe, find themselves up against an underground alien force called the Shalka, who, as part of their preparation for an all-out invasion of Earth, are stripping away the ozone layer from the planet.
This was released in 2003 before the revival was announced! It starred Richard E Grant as the Doctor (later the Great Intelligence) and Sophie Okonedo as the companion (later Liz 10) as well as, some foreshadowing, Derek Jacobi as the Master!! Plans for further animations were dropped due to the revival.
------------
these are all fun but none are particularly memorable/amazing. the animation style is probably best in The Infinite Quest. The one in Dreamland visually looks the best....until they start moving so stiffly!

yassss the start of the Harry Potter franchise  The first one establishes the whole world incredible well! Of course looking back the acting is a bit dodge and the tone is completely different from the others 3 onwards but I don't think I would change anything!
Monsters Inc, one of my absolute favourites <3 another fantastic world build!
I've been planning to rewatch the Ocean's films as I don't think I really understood them watching them at a younger age
omg Shrek was such a clever film to just subvert everything on its head! this really does seem the year that kick-started the world of franchises though!
Momento is one I need to watch and omg yesss Emperor's New Groove   I enjoyed The Others, probably another I want to rewatch. I didn't realise Zoolander underperformed, I know it more from its cult following - feels bizarre it got a sequel though! As I said in my other post, it kinda feels the decade is summarised more by Will Ferrell & Seth Rogan comedies but actually the start was dominated by Ben Stiller ones!

omg Doctor Who Confidential!! It really made you warm to the cast more as you got to know them. It’s outside this era but I loved Matt, Karen & Arthur together - they got on so well! I love love seeing thoughts behind things and how everything is made. Although the amount of times they showed an explosion going off, it was a bit much!
These days we just get jigsaw puzzles tasks in terms of extra content :(
