Agree- I love "Live"

What do you think will be Christmas No.1 album?
No-one thinks Olly Murs has a chance? He did have the Christmas number 3 album last year, behind big selling Michael Buble and Amy Winehouse albums. I don't think any albums this year are going to be getting close to the Buble/Winehouse sales of last year so Olly will be close. I reckon OneDirection are going to get big sales from post-Xmas iTunes gift card sales, the pre-Christmas CD present sales will go to Rod Stewart, Olly Murs and a bit of Buble?

Sunday music stats
I was born in January 1975, I wonder if there's ever been a singles chart entirely made up of acts younger than me, if not yet then it looks like it's coming soon :( (goes to look at the album list to feel younger) Great bit of research by the way

Scrolling through Titanium, Gotye, Toxic, I would never ever have guessed Wuthering Heights as Number 1, excellent choice Buzzjack and thanks Thermo!

Christmas #1 chart battle
I'm not sure what to make of the Hillsborough single's Number 1 prospects yet. The cause, as I understand it, is to raise funds for judicial reviews and other legal challenges starting with new inquests. These are widely supported demands, but I wonder if the BBC might see it as too political and back away from much airplay/ support (which would only be on Radio 2 anyway, even if Radio 1-friendly acts appear on the record I can't see them playing any version of He Ain't Heavy). The Hillsborough group certainly has an effective marketing presence, witness the very large amount of coverage that the announcement of the plans for the record got. But, it has been quiet since that initial announcement, has the single been recorded yet, is there a possibility it might not come off, at least not in time for Xmas? Paddy Power currently has the Hillsborough single as 18/25 favourite for the Xmas Number 1.

I remember a mini-trend in the early 90's to re-release big film theme songs when the film got their TV premiere- also resulted in 2nd time around hits for Roxette It Must Have Been Love (Pretty Woman) and Bill Medley/ Jennifer Warnes I've Had The Time Of My Life (Dirty Dancing) Enjoying the countdown by the way!

I'm still enjoying putting these lists together, nagging suspicion that I won't fully approve of the final winner and top placed songs, but at least it seems clear we're not going to get the usual Bohemian Rhapsody/ Imagine/ Hey Jude at the top +30 Oasis "Don't Look Back in Anger" +25 White Town "Your Woman" +22 Kate Bush "Wuthering Heights" +20 Smokey Robinson and The Miracles "Tears of a Clown" +18 Soft Cell "Tainted Love" +16 The Jam "Going Underground/ Dreams of Children" +14 Manic Street Preachers "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" +13 T-Rex "Hot Love" +12 Slade "Merry Xmas Everybody" +11 Cee-Lo Green "F You/ Forget You" +10 Georgie Fame "Yeh Yeh" +09 Rod Stewart "Maggie May" +08 Blur "Beetlebum" +07 Stiltskin "Inside" +06 Sugababes "Push The Button" +05 John Lennon "(Just Like) Starting Over" +04 John Leyton "Johnnie Remember Me" +03 Chicago "If You Leave Me Now" +02 The Ting Tings "That's Not My Name" +01 Mark Morrison "Return of the Mack"

Chris Moyles to leave Radio 1 Breakfast Show
So Chris' influence on the singles chart has been to get random older tracks into the top 20 (Billie Honey To The Bee and John Barrowman I Made It Through The Rain) and one previously unsigned guy into the top 40 (Doug Walker The Mystery). Anything else? I expect Grimmy will have a bigger influence over at the least the lower reaches of the chart with lesser known acts?

Fake versions on the itunes chart
Surprised that it sounds like this Joshua Weinstein backed down very quickly from doing something apparantly perfectly legal on the basis of one phone call from the Telegraph, presumably feared bad PR to other parts of his business once he was unmasked? Of course, on air/on sale would be a big dent in the sales of fakes, but they're unlikely to be going away unless iTunes or someone intervenes- there were a few fake versions of Call Me Maybe in the iTunes top 500 even when the original had spent a couple of weeks at number 1, I don't think you could have a satisfactory situation if someone (iTunes or whoever) has to decide which is a cover version with artistic integrity and which is an opportunistic rip-off.
