iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 31st August 2014
The Script, like Maroon 5, are a band I used to love but find their recent stuff quite boring... I'd still like them to get number 1 over Duke Dumont since I find Won't Look Back quite boring, but I'm pretty sure it will lose out to Prayer In C this week unless it builds up quite a big lead!

Most weeks at each position (1-75) in the UK Singles Chart
Just noticed David Guetta's "Bad" can be added to #57 (4 weeks) :)

I may be missing the point but should this count as "bubbling under" seeing as it's been top 40 for several weeks?

Changes in top 40 weeks due to streaming (2014)
Love this thread idea! I wonder what the first song will be to both gain and lose a week from streaming?

Pretty much every popular song is harmless - not many of them have hate messages or anything. It doesn't mean thinking it's a terrible song is silly! ;)

Predict : Different combined/sales-only #1's
Shouldn't this be: a+b*0.01 > c+d*0.01 a < c Unless I'm misunderstanding you?

Just realised that in an hour's time, streams will count towards the chart! :o Obviously iTunes will still give a great indication but I guess looking at the pop bars won't guarantee telling us who's going to be number 1.

The Life and Times of the Official Charts
It really makes me wonder what these people are paid for. Every single one of their articles seems to have several mistakes in it. I'm always correcting them on Facebook/Twitter and you'd assume they would get the hint and double check next time, but they never do!

Streaming to be included in the UK Official Chart: CONFIRMED
I was hoping that this would be the case for those reasons, but it seems quite a complicated way of doing it, plus it would make the sales section look quite messy (not that the general public know or care). I could easily be wrong, but I assume if they want to add the streams to sales of songs for the purpose of the chart, they will also add in the streams to the total sales seeing as that's essentially what they're counting. Also, the BPI announced that it would "take streaming into account when awarding gold discs" (I read this in a news article in the Times on Monday) so I'd assume that means they are being counted towards total sales as well?

Streaming to be included in the UK Official Chart: CONFIRMED
I suppose this was inevitable in the end, but I am quite sad that it's finally happening. Having said that, it will be nice to see the weekly "sales" go up a little even if they aren't true sales figures. This change will only increase the ease with which songs are selling a million copies these days too - for example if streaming had been added this time last year, Pompeii probably wouldn't have left the top 40 for more than a few weeks since release! It will be interesting to see what songs make re-entries on the week of the big change too. Also, it's going to be annoying that singles released after streaming is added will end up with higher overall sales and certifications than those released before, whilst not necessarily having been more popular, but that problem was the same when they included downloads and it isn't really a reason to justify not changing the rules, just an annoying consequence of it. I'm assuming most of this has been said before, but I'm just adding my opinion to this!

I think Nicki debuting in the top 40 is debatable. She might just scrape it, but according to the pop bars she's selling roughly 3x what the #40 is doing. With only two days' sales, will that be enough to be top 40 this week? (Of course she will be next week anyway, I'm just observing)

Coldplay - Ghost Stories
Yeah, my point was that when it's cheaper to buy all the tracks individually, I'm sure quite a few people will do that - it doesn't really matter how long they are. Not to mention that if you listen to it first and there are one or two you don't like, you might not buy those tracks and save a couple of pounds. I know a lot of people won't care, but there are some who won't spend more than they need to if they think it's a waste. For many this might mean waiting until it goes down in price, but that will obviously harm its first week sales too...
