John's ever-last Chart Of The Year - 2025
Well, the last track to peak in 2025 has now left my chart, so these are the best records of 2025, according to someone that can remember the 1960's, oops! As usual, oldies do not count unless they were released in 2025 and peaked in 2026, so those "sales" get added to the original run, with one exception: Die With A Smile came back even stronger after going top 30 in 2024, so that has its 2025 run here as a comparison, but collectively the total for the 2024 year-end chart is adjusted so that it goes top 5 or just short of that. First up the bottom ten that just missed the 100, and then after that one at a time with the video link and no commentary. I love them all, so that's just a given. I will tot up the number of entries for acts at the end. The key to the title lines: position/peak/weeks/SONG - Act/sales 101 22 14 ANGELA - Benjamin Ingrosso 232250 102 6 13 COLD DREAMING - Doves 232000 103 17 13 G.O.A.T. Iz ranks the 2010 #1s
Bops along nicely, good production but the song, such as it is, had made no long-term impression on my declining numbers of brain cells. I am enjoying playing it again though, and it seems quite good natured, I can understand and hear every word (hooray!) and the upbeat nature of the track is quite refreshing in the current musical chart climate. So. What did I make of it at the time? Number 39 peak, so I liked it then too, but the 5-week chart run explains why it didn't hit my long-term memory - 3 weeks while on top of the charts and then plays must have dried up as per the odd chart run!

Round 7: End Of Year Survivor 143
I love Bev generally and her records mostly underperformed chartwise but Shoulda Woulda not her best track for me, not even close, and prefer the other 3 in this case...

Iz ranks the 2010 #1s
I agree their earlier songs are the ones that spring to mind - but for me in an irritating way. And this is so The Feeling, as per the comment above, but I'd much rather listen to this than the more-famous ones from Scouting For Girls, nice string section and it's not nearly as annoying as She's So Luvverlee, it's quite nice actually. As far as Rockpop goes, a sad farewell from me there have been dozens and dozens worthy tracks since this to top the charts, current faves being Reverend And The Makers and The Lottery Winners. Quality even if it's not what 14-year-olds listen to. Scouting For Girls have been pretty good of late though! Current single Get What You Give is easily as good as their best in their heyday (ie this track or Elvis Ain't Dead).

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1993
Thanks Gezza, epic feat catching sales for 20 years-worth of charts and reviewing, a marathon reference guide, well done! As for the final Gallup chart, Jennifer Rush version is better than Celine's, as these things tend to be, and I like the Chili Peppers rap-rock fusion.

John's 1976 Original Charts
8th June 1976 It's a brand new chart-topper as Peter Frampton and his assistant vocoder grab the top spot ahead of Mud's fabulous disco romp Shake It Down - he showed them the way and I bought that single, but these days I prefer Mud's. Peter was slightly too early to chart as a member of The Herd in my first 1968 charts, but has new stuff out 50 years on. The Charles Randolph Greane Sound take the Star Trek theme tune to a disco revamp top 5 as Dolly's Country classic Jolene belatedly climbs to 6. Maureen McGovern keeps ancient songs afloat at 11, as ELO keep the top 20's coming and Jonathan King streaks to 20. The highest new entry comes from The Shadows at 32, It'll Be Me Babe just one ahead of old mucker Cliff. NOt a UK chart hit that one but it's pretty decent. There's a monster classic new at 35, as Bryan Ferry completely revamps the old Blues song Let's Work Together, last seen done by Canned Heat, and turns it into a stomping wall-of-sound with pounding horns, with added girlfriend model Jeri Hall on vocal yelps - ahead of her future boy-friend Mick Jagger, and wife of one of the richest and most powerful moguls in history, an ageing 80 and 90-something who did his bit to ruin the planet. Worth yelping about. New at 41 Nancy Ryan's Glad I Waited For You, one I don't remember at all. Turns out to be a rather sweet Country song sounding like Dolly Parton's stuff in a couple of years. Nice. It's the mid-70's, The Four Seasons are back and biggger than ever and their back catalogue is being plundered left right and centre, so why not Donny Osmond after his Brothers fab version of The Proud One? C'Mon Marianne was a flop in the UK and therefore sadly never appears on Hits compilations. A shame as it's Donny's best solo effort to date, something with a bit of life to it, a great song, though he's no Frankie Valli, admittedly. In at 44. Randy Edelman, in between his two 1976 chart hits, managed to sneak out a flop - Fresh Out Of Love, pleasantly singalong and forgettable at 47, just ahead of a bunch of young lads from an ITV talent Show (New Faces I think) called Our Kid - You Just Might See Me Cry was a big hit, a decent record, and then forgotten about almost entirely. For a track featuring kids it's better than one might expect and deserves the odd oldies play that it never gets. That leaves Barry Manilow's Could It Be Magic, as covered by Donna Summer disco-fashion, and as nicked from Chopin's Prelude In C Minor. It's a good version of a good record (Barry Manilow's finest, I think, which will hit in the UK down the line a ways) and a fab melody. 1 ( 3 ) SHOW ME THE WAY Peter Frampton 2 ( 8 ) SHAKE IT DOWN Mud 3 ( 1 ) LET YOUR LOVE FLOW The Bellamy Brothers 4 ( 2 ) MORE MORE MORE Andrea True Connection 5 ( 37 ) STAR TREK The Charles Randolph Greane Sound 6 ( 11 ) JOLENE Dolly Parton 7 ( 9 ) LEADER OF THE PACK The Shangri-Las 8 ( 5 ) MY RESISTANCE IS LOW Robin Sarstedt 9 ( 6 ) LOVE HANGOVER Diana Ross 10 ( 4 ) FERNANDO ABBA 11 ( 33 ) THE CONTINENTAL Maureen McGovern 12 ( 12 ) THIS IS IT Melba Moore 13 ( 7 ) SILLY LOVE SONGS Wings 14 ( 27 ) STRANGE MAGIC Electric Light Orchestra 15 ( 19 ) SOUL CITY WALK Archie Bell & The Drells 16 ( 20 ) MONKEY SPANNER Dave, and Ansel Collins 17 ( 22 ) JOHNNY REGGAE The Piglets 18 ( 10 ) DON'T PULL YOUR LOVE/THEN YOU CAN TELL ME GOODBYE Glen Campbell 19 ( 23 ) HEART ON MY SLEEVE Gallagher & Lyle 20 ( 40 ) IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE 100 Ton & A Feather aka Jonathan King 21 ( 21 ) REQUIEM Slik 22 ( 25 ) DOUBLE BARREL Dave, and Ansel Collins 23 ( 26 ) PIED PIPER Bob & Marcia 24 ( 28 ) THE WANDERER Dion 25 ( 44 ) YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING The Real Thing 26 ( 18 ) I'M MANDY FLY ME 10cc 27 ( 14 ) GET UP AND BOOGIE Silver Convention 28 ( 39 ) BATMAN AND ROBIN Adam 'Batman' West 29 ( 17 ) S'S'SINGLE BED Fox 30 ( 24 ) SILVER STAR The Four Seasons featuring Frankie Valli 31 ( 29 ) YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL Ray Stevens 32 ( NEW ) IT'LL BE ME BABE The Shadows 33 ( 32 ) DEVIL WOMAN Cliff Richard 34 ( 48 ) YOU'RE MY EVERYTHING Lee Garrett 35 ( NEW ) LET'S STICK TOGETHER Bryan Ferry 36 ( 45 ) THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN Thin Lizzy 37 ( 13 ) GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME Tom Jones 38 ( 15 ) SEASIDE SHUFFLE Terry Dactyl & The Dinosaurs 39 ( 35 ) I'M YOUR PUPPET James & Bobby Purify 40 ( 43 ) (TO BE) YOUNG, GIFTED & BLACK Bob & Marcia 41 ( NEW ) GLAD I WAITED FOR YOU Nancy Ryan 42 ( 16 ) SHE'S NO ANGEL Heavy Metal Kids 43 ( 34 ) JUNGLE ROCK Hank Mizell 44 ( NEW ) C'MON MARIANNE Donny Osmond 45 ( 31 ) DISCO CONNECTION Isaac Hayes Movement 46 ( 30 ) TVC David Bowie 47 ( NEW ) FRESH OUTA LOVE Randy Edelman 48 ( NEW ) YOU JUST MIGHT SEE ME CRY Our Kid 49 ( 38 ) NEEDLES AND PINS The Searchers 50 ( NEW ) COULD IT BE MAGIC Donna Summer

john v's late 31st May 2026 charts: It's a Reverend vs a Demi bop for the top
31st May 2026 It's a 4th number one for Reverend and The Makers, all of them in the last three years, Crying Over You needs to be the next single and Radio 2 needs to get behind it to reach their potential audience, always quality. Forever meanwhile goes top 30 as the official single with Robbie Williams limps up to 69, ooerr that's living up to the title. Demi Lovato meanwhile gets her biggest track to date as Love Controller climbs to 2, a total banger that also needs to be the next single. Stephen Sanchez meanwhile threatens at 4 as all the oldies are pushed downwards. Master Jack finally breaks my top 10 57 years since I first heard it, still lovely, and Hot Chocolate's Rumours finally goes top 10 as back in 1973 tracks outside the UK top 30 were ineligible for my top 20 (stupid self-imposed chart rule, as I was still basically sorting the UK singles chart into the "right" order for my liking, so Rumours fell short but topped my Breakers being a Hot Choc fan and all. That's around 20 top 10's or so for the band. Highest new entry comes from Jungle, The Wave flows in at 60 as Carry On climbs to 13 for a chart double. Always classy. Becky Hill is back again with More! More! More! and it's not the Andrea True Connection song that topped my chart 50 years ago, it's a dance banger, for 6 years of lead act charting. Inspiral Carpets are back with a good new single Drag The Bag, with that early 90's retro-60's organ sound present and correct, and their first chart presence in 30 years and a chart span now of 36 years. Other new entries: Barry Can't Swim gets a second at 88, HUGEL is back with an Ultra Nate sample or something, Bebe Rexha gets the David Guetta treatment which gives her 8 years of charting and Le David one of several this year alone, never mind the last 25 years non-stop. Paul McCartney's new album has dropped, and 3 tracks from it debut, giving Macca 5 charting entries to add to his whopping un-matched total including Wings and Beatles stuff, his voice not quite what it was but he can still knock off a tune and an interesting varierty of arrangements as he wistfully looks back at his childhood, parents and family, and teen years. Paul Heaton is also back, ever-present since The Housemartins days in one form or other, this time with a guest vocalist and Ian Broudie on production and backing vocals - who also happens to be in the top 5 with The Lightning Seeds oldie. That leaves Stella Lefty to debut, I'll avoid the shouty Capital Letters typeface though, it's not clever and I wish everyone would stop doing it. ABBA had no idea what they were letting us in for (but at least they had an excuse being the letters of four names). Nice track though. And finally, I saw Midge Ure last week and bought the new double album, and have already charted the first single off it, but I've opted for a good album track Shouting To The Moon as the best of the rest. I first saw Midge in Ultravox in concert in 1981, but he'd been a teen star before that in Slik, and 50 years ago he'd already topped the UK charts. Vienna might have missed, but If I Was didn't and neither did Band Aid, so he's had a few anyway. 1 2 1 3 CRYING OVER YOU - Reverend and The Makers 345000 2 6 2 6 LOVE CONTROLLER - Demi Lovato 268300 3 1 1 3 YA YA YA - JONAS LOVV 340000 4 10 4 7 CHUCK THE MONEY - Stephen Sanchez 210100 5 3 3 4 LIFE'S TOO SHORT - The Lightning Seeds 270000 6 7 6 5 EMMA - Hot Chocolate 237000 7 8 1 9 CLICK CLACK SYMPHONY - RAYE featuring Hans Zimmer 775100 8 9 8 9 SUGAR - Simien & Akon 262150 9 13 9 4 MASTER JACK - Four Jacks And A Jill 120000 10 15 10 5 RUMOURS - Hot Chocolate 110250 11 5 5 5 YOU'LL ALWAYS BE A FRIEND - Hot Chocolate 220000 12 4 1 5 BROTHER LOUIE - Hot Chocolate featuring Alexis Korner 500000 13 17 13 9 CARRY ON - Jungle 156750 14 18 14 6 FOCU 'RANNI - ROSALIA 107800 15 11 1 4 LOVE IS LIFE - Hot Chocolate 299000 16 19 16 8 BEAUTY PAGEANT - Holly Humberstone 125600 17 12 3 10 PHOENIX - Marshmello x Portugal. Hi Seltin! ๐ Top 2 still no shifting, both are good though! Harry Styles and sombr top 10 and The Cure straight in are the highlights at the top end, but Delta and Dara for some great eurovision action in the 30 too. Breakers, The Script, Lana Del Ray and Shakira too are good. great charts! ๐

Iz ranks the 2010 #1s
Another I'd forgotten until I played it again, Written In The Stars I havent heard since it waved bye to the charts - and it's pretty good. A good mash-up of styles with a proper chorus and production. It's also Tinie's best track as per my personal charts a long-running top 10, Wonderman is the nearest challenger a top 20 with Ellie Goulding.

The Gallup Years- Top 10 Sales- 1993
In Your Room still sounds good, and I bought the album, as I did the Enigma album, Return To Innocence is fabulous, I was really getting into World Music moods at this time. That was a personal chart-topper for me, hooray!

Yes, at one stage he was going to do an album for every state in the USA - he may not have thought that one through....! ๐

AH Gold Chart - w/e 6th June 2026 - a month on top for Madonna/Sabrina or a first week for Dara?
Hi AH! ๐ Hope the feet n legs are healing OK and youve had lots of music indulgence time! Nothing shifting Madonna & Sabrina, then - very Vogue vibes I think. Obviously 68-year-old women not so big with young music fans, but you might have thought it would have done a bit better than that compared to some of the lesser album tracks from Sabrina which got a chart run. Tch! I'm a bit behind on some at the top end of your chart, but hopefully less busy next week! The number of chart=toppers for me in your Retro chart has increased to 11 with quite a lot of near-things, I reckon there's at least 5 that could do it given an excuse, like a TV or movie slot. fab charts! ๐

John V's 24th May 2026 charts - Eurovision at number one....the 21st ever.
Hi AH! ๐ Oh crikey still off! Poor you, on crutches and not the more fun kind either! ๐ฏI thought the least they do these days was steel toe-cap boots - of course they do cripple you if you try and walk in them for a few hours and end up with lifelong toe and knee problems, so I would always sign that I have received them, and then put them in the car boot never to be used again ๐Trainers only! Master Jack wasn' a UK hit I guess as the still-new Radio 1 didnt playlist it, and it was too modern for then Radio 2, they liked more cheerful singalong stuff! I know it was hard for new acts from abroad to get work permits in the UK to come over and promote and they were prob busy in Aus and the USA anyway. Reliquia still gives me goosebumps when I play it - oddly the lyrics really get to me (as I can work most of them out despite my Not Quite O Level standard Spanish) as well as her vocal and the gorgeous arrangement. Needs to be a massive hit but won't be. I'm on episode 1 Kylie, all fascinating stuff with the home videos and backstories. And yes I'm looking forward to chopping the chart down but it's not happening any time soon, the new releases I'm buying exceed the available slots even with most droppers vacating the top bottom 50! thanks for the fab comments and picks as always! ๐

Hey Sven! ๐ Hope all is well! Thanks for the picks! Jonas Lovv is the sort of old-fashioned rock-pop track that I go for at Eurovision, sort of White Stripes singalong. Love it! ๐ cheers! ๐
