  1. Kosheen were under-rated and Sian is a great singer, criminal she's faded from view even as a guest vocalist. This is a big dubstep-ish dance track and I'm ashamed to admit I'd forgotten it and how good is it, her second-best track after Kosheen's Harder, and DJ Fresh's top tune too. Someone should do a mash-up and call it Louder, Harder, tho' the big tempo and mood difference would be a challenge!

  5. 29th June 1976 It's the long hot scorching summer continuing as Beatles tracks drop into another contained side chart from the main chart to free up space for more current tracks, and which leaves Peter Frampton on top for week 2, and Bryan Ferry as runner-up on his highest-peaking solo track...ever! Demis Roussos bounds up to 4 with Forever And Ever's lazy musical vibes suiting the hot weather, and Candi Staton gets her first Top 10 at 6 with the classic Young Hearts Run Free. That leaves The Beach Boys getting 1966's epic Good Vibrations into the top tier for a 5th top 10 in 8 years, B side Wouldnt It Be Nice up to 32, and new cover song Rock And Roll Music in at 31. The band had a hit album at 1, a new album due out soon, and ruling the summer airwaves with the surf sound. Starbuck leap into the 20, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band chart The Boston Tea Party at 38, not an obvious topic for a hit record, their second after Delilah topped my chart in 1975, and Linda & The Funky Boys disco dance into my chart with the little-played Sold My Soul, it didn't get much airplay even at the time and it's pretty good. In at 43 with added synth solo mid-track, just ahead of Johnny Cash's last hit for 25 years or so, One Piece At A Time with an amusing lyric about stealing a car from work, one piece at a time and putting it together at home. In bottom rung Silver Convention get a 4th entry with Tiger Baby, I'm assuming the double A side didn't get airplay for t'other track No No Joe, as I didn't list it. Oddly, as it's a bit more upbeat, more fun than laid-back Tiger Baby. 1 ( 1 ) SHOW ME THE WAY Peter Frampton 2 ( 4 ) LET'S STICK TOGETHER Bryan Ferry 3 ( 2 ) THE CONTINENTAL Maureen McGovern 4 ( 25 ) FOREVER AND EVER Demis Roussos 5 ( 7 ) THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN Thin Lizzy 6 ( 12 ) YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE Candi Staton 7 ( 3 ) JOLENE Dolly Parton 8 ( 5 ) SHAKE IT DOWN Mud 9 ( 8 ) LEADER OF THE PACK The Shangri-Las 10 ( 21 ) GOOD VIBRATIONS The Beach Boys 11 ( 13 ) IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE 100 Ton & A Feather aka Jonathan King 12 ( 15 ) THE WANDERER Dion 13 ( 10 ) YOU'RE MY EVERYTHING Lee Garrett 14 ( 18 ) I LOVE TO BOOGIE T. 6. Example, I'd forgotten that one entirely until I played it, and immediately liked it but I rated it as a top 40 peak as opposed to top 3 for the previous Example chart-topper. Doesn't sound dated to me at all, because I consider 2011 to be recent and I still enjoy dance bangers of any sub-genre😄It seems about 7 or 8 years ago, oops! One Direction OTOH sounds even more recent, and still annoying by virtue of not having the good taste to stop being played on the radio. I always found their stuff bland, predictable and Paint By Numbers, OK for two or three weeks and then of little interest beyond that. What Makes You Beautiful was about average for them, peaking at 59 for me, but not one of their 10 singles I bothered to chart ever made my top 40, their grown-up solo singles by every member are generally often much better, and many are brilliant pop tracks. This, I would rate near the bottom of the list as I still would prefer not to hear it. My word but they sold records though!
  7. Awww I really like True Blue, fun pastiche of the late 50's/early 60's melodic pop era but with that 80's synth beat. She disowned it when she split up with Sean Penn and has stayed Not True Blue ever since, banning it from the Immaculate Collection and all other hits collections to my annoyance. Nice background harmony melodies going on, that key change is great, and lyrically sums up the teen songs of the past and her girlie vocals suit the material. Beats Wham to my Best To Drop Out title so far.
  8. 2000 Miles is an under-rated Christmas song - just one year if we could have an entire Christmas chart of over-looked oldies classics they might get more of a chance to make a permanent dent into the Usual Suspects. Maybe a SCR year for any christmas song that hasnt gone top 40 every bloody year for a decade! 9/10. Victims is a 10/10 for me, George could do dark ballads beautifully back in the day, and this carried through into his solo work. His voice always convinced, before it went. 10/10. Blancmange, great production but I was less convinced by the song 8/10. Tears For Fears ditto 7/10. Marguerita Time is Quo's last great party hit, still a fun tune and a rare shining traditional Quo song in a post-1980 cloud of mostly ho-hum-ness. 8/10. Elvis' cover of I Can Help isnt a patch on the original, but for that Elvis 1975 period it was one of his better efforts 7/10. I love Pipes Of Peace, or as The Tube's resident Scottish presenter opined at the time, Pipes Of Piss. The WW1 video made a point nicely, and the song will remain relevant until the end of the human race. Plus the tune is fab, peak Macca with a hint of Let 'Em In. Sentimental optimism is fine by me :) 9/10. Cold As Christmas was an odd choice from the rather good album, as it's not really a Xmas song. Crystal was the stand-out non-single and that could have been big. 5/10 Tell Her About It never one of my fave Joel songs, though I like the retro vibes 5/10. Frank Kelly has been struck from my brain cells. No idea. Kool & The Gang, actually the hook for this one has stayed with me, and one of their better efforts 7/10. Read 'Em And Weep is one of Bazza's best singles, Jim Steinman suits his OTT slushy ballad style more than his usual drivel 8/10. Jimmy Cliff's original of Many Rivers To Cross is heart-wrenching and fab, and UB40 gave a semi-obscure classic a platform with a decent version, so an 8/10 from me, much rather hear this than Red Red Wine yet again. Sweet Surrender I recall as a dull ballad 4/10. Christmas Spectre I dont recall either, but a fan of the originals so it's bound to be a 5/10. The Minder duet I hated, got on my nerves very quickly 2/10. Ditto singing Santa.
  9. Ooh yes, Bailamos, that's the one now you mention it!!

  12. 21st June 2026 It's a mercifully cooler Saturday, after the equatorial temperatures sent me retreating into the cinema everyday for AC, and made me late with my charts, and feeling lazy and tired! It's also another oldie on top as The Jackson 5's 1971 number 2 finally gets on to my top spot, Never can Say Goodbye thus matches I'll Be There in becoming their 7th number one as an act, and allowing Michael Jackson a total of 22 to move ahead of Madonna at 4th in my all-time list of most number ones. It's a long gap to the next 3 though, so he won't be getting any higher than 4th. ABBA, Pet Shop Boys and The Beatles are well clear of the field. I'll Be There also goes top 10, for a third time, at 6. Appleton have had a chart-topper with All Saints (Pure Shores) but have only peaked at 2 previously as an act, Don't Worry in 2003 - and Ready To Begin leaps 27 places with those fab Verve-ish swirling strings Bittersweet Symphony stylee. They leap past Jungle who climb to 3, while Charlotte MacINnes gets a first top 10 with Struck. Paul McCartney gets his first top 40 in a while with new material, a mere record-breaking chart run of 58 years since The Beatles' Hey Jude topped my very first chart. Ronald LaPread, The bassist and co-founder of The Commodores passed away this week, so in at 53 is their first UK hit, the funky instrumental Machine Gun back 52 years on, and Sail On, one of the songs of my first USA holiday in California/Nevada/Arizona in 1979, is back at 79. The former song is pre-Lionel The Balladeer, the second part of a run of ballad hits before Mr Richie went solo. The country-soul laid back vibes just fit scorching LA and Death Valley radio stations, and our scorching UK week of heat this week. It was literally like being in Furnace Creek mid-summer, upper 30's.... Best new track debuting is Adam Lambert's Under The Rhythm at 67, it borrows liberally from ATC's Around The World, but is an improvement, and his first chart entry since 2020's Roses with Nile Rodgers, 16 years since his debut, and 9 years since Two Fux topped my chart. Holly Humberstone gets a second on the list at 73, White Noise, and 3rd of the year. It's 5 years since her debut The Walls Are Way Too Thin. Francesco Gabbani meanwhile gets his first entry since his Eurovision track, Summer Funk at 74, 9 years on from Occidentali's Karma. Chake Khan knocks herself out of my chart, with added Snoop Dogg replacing added Sia, Boogie's In My Soul at 77 sounding good, and Chaka's run still being 52 years on from Tell Me Something Good. Snoop is a more modest 30-odd years in contrast, but has never really gone out of fashion chart-wise for me. Olivia Rodrigo grabs a 2nd charting single from her album, The Cure, and may well be chartin with Robert Smith of The Cure, having already referenced him and them in hit 1, holding at 57 vs The Cure's 84. Boys Don't Cry charted earlier in the year (original version) for The Cure, to boot. Another one with 2 on the chart, Myles Smith enters Hold Me In The Dark at 92, The Dead South at long last get a fellow-up to In Hell I'll Be In Good Company as they cover Rox In The Box at 95, a Decemberists song, and their second chart hit 9 years on. Quite the week for 2017 acts this week. There's a chart debut with the gospel-sounding Let's Get Together by newbie-to-me Brother Wallace at 96, and also Temper City at 98 who enter Self Aware, and a double Sparks following their fab live performance in Bournemouth last week: 2000's track Baby Baby Can I Invade Your Country went down well with it's Country twang in at 99, and I-405 Rules from their recent Mad! album pops in at 100. That'll be 52 years of charting then, just ahead of Chaka Khan. 1 4 1 8 NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE - The Jackson 5 348600 2 29 2 3 READY TO BEGIN - Appleton 140200 3 5 3 4 THE WAVE - Jungle 171650 4 3 1 9 LOVE CONTROLLER - Demi Lovato 588300 5 2 1 6 CRYING OVER YOU - Reverend and The Makers 605000 6 27 6 7 I'LL BE THERE - The Jackson 5 125050 7 7 7 8 RUMOURS - Hot Chocolate 255250 8 10 8 6 FOREVER - Reverend and The Makers 147650 9 1 1 9 EMMA - Hot Chocolate 602000 10 16 10 7 STRUCK - Charlotte MacInnes 134800 11 6 1 6 YA YA YA - JONAS LOVV 547000 12 11 4 10 CHUCK THE MONEY - Stephen Sanchez 332100 13 9 5 7 MASTER JACK - Four Jacks And A Jill 257000 14 15 14 8 CAN'T SIT STILL - Lainey Wilson 137500 15 19 15 9 MR KNOW IT ALL - Teddy Swims 158300 16 14 1 12 CLICK CLACK SYMPHONY - RAYE featuring Hans Zimmer 866100 17 8 6 12 SUGAR - Simien & Akon 388150 18 18 5 19 DRIVE SAFE - Myles Smith & Niall Horan 563000 19 13 10 9 FREE TO LOVE - Duran Duran featuring Nile Rodgers 166950 20 26 20 9 JOKE ABOUT DIVORCE - Blossoms 123650 21 17 17 6 GO - The Chemical Brothers featuring Q-Tip 90950 22 23 22 9 IN MY ROOM - Linda Ronstadt 135600 23 12 12 8 YOU COULD'VE BEEN A LADY - Hot Chocolate 139950 24 22 1 8 BROTHER LOUIE - Hot Chocolate featuring Alexis Korner 565500 25 34 25 6 AIN'T NO SUNSHINE - Shaggy featuring Sting 85350 26 30 26 8 BRING YOUR LOVE - Madonna & Sabrina Carpenter 90350 27 24 16 11 BEAUTY PAGEANT - Holly Humberstone 188000 28 25 3 7 LIFE'S TOO SHORT - The Lightning Seeds 342050 29 36 29 7 OH NO! 14. Hi SSP! Thanks as always for the picks of the climbers, and the new entries! cheers! 😎
  15. Hi AH! 🙂 Hope the hideous weather wasnt too awful at work, I hid in the cinema everyday for the AC. Great top 3, all fresh new tracks for me to enjoy for a few weeks. Fabulous charts, old and new! 🥰😎
  16. Hi AH!🙂 Glad you had fun going out, always worth the effort, even if it means cleaning up a toilet. At the very least it makes for a great anecdote at future family occasions when you bring it up. Much like your sister did! 😄I have several tucked away I can trawl out as a reminder when others start to complain about the younger folk behaviour 😇Your workplace has no AC? EEK! About time they had a maximum temp for workplaces! Sitting and freezing is a no-no but passing out from heat is fine...?! Thanks for all the picks and comments! Back up to bloody 100 again this week, tch, it takes ages to get through 100 songs. I can't help myself, it's like an addiction! 😄Glad you rate Emma and Jungle. That Madonna does sound like Get Together now you mention it, but if she's going to repeat herself might as well pick a great era! I'd noticed The Fizz in the sales chart, I thought it was down to the vinyl release of the single, but not heard that remix. Hang on a mo while I check it out...and now I notice that "daaaark" key change (?) sounds like the bit on My Camera Never Lies on "Liiiieeees". Nice remix, yes, though I will stick with the original single version, as I tend to 😄 Thanks again, and cheers! 😎
  17. Hey James! 🙂 Hope all is fab! Great chart, my faves this week: The Cure, More! More! More! (this reads like poetry! 😄) I just saw Toy Story so taylor might be growing on me, ditto Ariana, good to see Aperture back in the top 10, drop dead, To Love Somebody holding, Dracula up and ooh new entries from Anne Hathaway and The Fizz 🤩and I havent heard that Carly Ray track, playing it, like it, buying it, thanks! Cheers! 😎
  18. Hey James! 🙂 Thanks for the picks and comments! More More More I need to be in the right mood for, and the weather has been pushing 100 in old temperatures (we have no AC) so big bangers need cooler weather to have more impact! 😄It's getting cooler now that'll help 😃Glad you liked The Fizz track, old Eurovision faithfuls there! 🤩 Hope all is fab! Cheers! 😎
  19. Hello Jordan! Hope all is great with you as the 250th approaches. I can still recall the 200th and the weather here was freakishly hot then too. Hotter than equatorial Singapore last few days, we have no AC so the cinema is the only refuge! 😄 great charts! 😎
  20. Hello Jordan! Hope all is fab with you! 👍Thanks for the picks and comments! Go sounds great, I dont know why I didnt buy it first time round TBH, though the film spot helps make it more powerful and noticeable! 😮 Teddy Swims is class, still knocking out great songs and performances 🤩On The Floor sounding great, ah those were the days when fun dance music was a thing! Headlights is more of a grower, I think, so no chance of getting radio plays in the UK, booooo! Backstreet Boys I had the same reaction 😄Paw Patrol? The 7-year-old in the house loves the TV show, so I thought "bound to be child-appealing" 🙄It's more nostalgia-90's appealing I think so there for the mums and dads 😄 Cheers! 😎
