1972 Personal Top 100 Then And Now
68 (10) DONNA - 10cc Jonathan King signed-up the band mostly-formerly-known as Hotlegs, and containing 60's hitsters Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart and Neanderthal Man co- creators Kevin Godley & Lol Creme, to his new UK Records label in 1972 to what turned out to be not that generous a deal to the Strawberry Studios inventive and quirky combo based in Manchester. The fruits of their early attempts to play with state of the art recording techniques would soon pay dividends for veteran Neil Sedaka, but also for themselves as this pastiche-50's-American harmony singalong hit the UK number 2 and spotlighted their penchant for wit, melody and unusual song structure. They might have a chorus, or they might not, they might repeat a melody or they might divert suddenly into something else, they were in short a cut above the normal pop formula hits, and I was an instant fan. This topped my charts and ended 10th of the year, but it came over as another Neanderthal Man - a novelty hit, albeit a good one, and not one I'd consider as inside their top 20 records together or apart. Not to worry, they had already had a hand in Groovy Kind Of Love, No Milk Today, Bus Stop and other 60's gems so it's fair to assume there is great stuff still to come over the next 13 years and occasionally beyond.

1972 Personal Top 100 Then And Now
69 (NEW) JOURNEY - Duncan Browne Duncan Browne only had the one minor hit, sadly, but Journey was a real goodie and deserves to be better-known amongst the singer-songwriter folk hits of the 70's - that's where having a body of work gives you a real advantage in the long-term, the one-hit wonders really have to be massive to get a look-in decades later. This still has a charm to it, it's quirky, with touches here and there that give it a modest originality, in production and structure, not least the choral and instrumental run at the end. As it popped in and out of the top 30 fairly rapidly at the time, it never got the chance to feature in my Top 100 of 1972 with a decent run, but that is rectified now as it places slightly ahead of Paul Simon's number for me that year, and ahead of many other chart-toppers that don't sound quite so good half a century on.

1972 Personal Top 100 Then And Now
70 (46) MOTHER AND CHILD REUNION - Paul Simon Paul Simon's debut solo single after going out on about as high a note as one could with the Simon & Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water album and single, and the Greatest Hits, Mother & Child Reunion perverted expectations right away with its gentle reggae lilt and gospel backing vibes, and a song reputedly inspired by a dish of eggs and chicken. I loved it right away and it topped my charts of the time. 50 years on and I'm not quite as big on it, so there's a marginal drop from 46th fave of the year to 70th, but it's still refreshingly bubbly, melodic and delightful, and outdoes follow-up Me & Julio which fell short of the 100 this time. Contrary to that 80's backlash to his Graceland album, Simon had always genre-hopped, and indeed I always rate artists that don't stick with a formula. All music is there for inspiration, and after 95 years nobody owns it anyway, quite rightly. While it's within copyright, if you credit any obvious lifts or samples then it's all fine. Everybody wins.

My 1975 Retro Revamped Charts
1st March 1975 It's up to the top spot for Elton John as Philadelphia Freedom gives Reg a 6th Retro number one, while after the avalanche of new entries last week it's a more modest 5 new ones this week, but the number of chart-toppers from my original 1975 charts doesn't slow down as Joh Lennon's cover of Ben E King's classic Stand By Me drops in at 29 which went to my top spot where #9 Dream fell short at 4, but this time round it's looking like Stand By Me wont match #9 Dream's top-spot and top-10 status as it's overtaken in the new entry stakes by Sweet's first self-written rock track, Fox On The Run new at 18. To be fair, in a normal week it would have gone instant top 20, as would Skiing In The Snow at 33, from Wigans Ovation, a Northern Soul UK-made mini-gem. Suffice to say the chart is all over the place as multiple tracks compete at the top end, and not much happens down the lower end, bar a new entry for Morris Albert as Mexico charts Feelings ahead of the USA and 5 months ahead of the UK, grabbing number 67 here as The Goodies drop another childish nursery rhyme with The Funky Gibbon at 74. It's mildly amusing as a one-off, but really doesn't bear repeat hearings, either in 1975 or now. Unlike a B side later in the year taken from their TV show piss-take of Glam Rock, the final nail in the coffin for that genre. 1 ( 2 ) PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM - Elton John Band # 1 2 ( 1 ) REACH OUT I’LL BE THERE - Gloria Gaynor # 1 3 ( 3 ) EL BIMBO - Bimbo Jets # 3 4 ( 6 ) MAKE ME SMILE (COME UP AND SEE ME) - Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel # 1 5 ( 5 ) JANUARY - Pilot # 1 6 ( 4 ) SWING YOUR DADDY - Jim Gilstrap # 4 7 ( 7 ) ONE DAY IN YOUR LIFE - Michael Jackson # 1 8 ( 13 ) BLANKET ON THE GROUND - Billie Jo Spears # 8 9 ( 10 ) #9 DREAM - John Lennon # 1 10 ( 11 ) SAVE ME - Silver Convention # 10 11 ( 14 ) HAVE YOU NEVER BEEN MELLOW - Olivia Newton-John # 2 12 ( 16 ) JACKIE BLUE - The Ozark Mountain Daredevils # 4 13 ( 9 ) YOUR KISS IS SWEET - Syreeta # 5 14 ( 27 ) YOU SEXY THING - Hot Chocolate # 14 15 ( 8 ) SUPERGIRL - Graham Bonney # 8 16 ( 25 ) YOUNG AMERICANS - David Bowie # 16 17 ( 26 ) I CAN DO IT - The Rubettes # 17 18 ( NEW ) FOX ON THE RUN - The Sweet # 18 19 ( 21 ) ROLL ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY - Bachman-Turner Overdrive # 19 20 ( 18 ) AUTOBAHN - Kraftwerk # 18 21 ( 20 ) MY HEART’S SYMPHONY - Gary Lewis & The Playboys # 12 22 ( 12 ) MY ELUSIVE DREAMS - Charlie Rich # 12 23 ( 15 ) LOVIN' YOU - Minnie Ripperton # 1 24 ( 36 ) FELICITA TA TA - Raffaella Carra # 24 25 ( 28 ) WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH YOU - Barry White # 25 26 ( 19 ) CHILD OF LOVE - Caston & Majors # 1 27 ( 17 ) I’M ON MY WAY - Dean Parrish # 7 28 ( 34 ) THE QUEEN OF 1964 - Neil Sedaka # 28 29 ( NEW ) STAND BY ME - John Lennon # 29 30 ( 22 ) L-O-V-E (LOVE) - Al Green # 22 31 ( 29 ) BE MY BABY - The Ronettes # 1 32 ( 30 ) WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO? - Diana Ross & The Supremes # 3 33 ( NEW ) SKIING IN THE SNOW - Wigans Ovation # 33 34 ( 33 ) GOODBYE MY LOVE - The Glitter Band # 9 35 ( 45 ) SLOW DOWN - Shabby Tiger # 35 36 ( 31 ) SINCE I FOUND MY BABY - Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose # 15 37 ( 39 ) THE SECRETS THAT YOU KEEP - Mud # 37 38 ( 46 ) LOVE ME LOVE MY DOG - Peter Shelley # 38 39 ( 23 ) ONLY YOU AND ROCK AND ROLL - Redbone # 9 40 ( 24 ) WE’RE ALMOST THERE - Michael Jackson # 16 41 ( 32 ) THE BARGAIN STORE - Dolly Parton # 22 42 ( 41 ) CAN’T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD - Electric Light Orchestra # 1 43 ( 43 ) HOW DOES IT FEEL - Slade # 10 44 ( 35 ) THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - Lulu # 7 45 ( 40 ) THE ORINOCO KID - The Wombles # 15 46 ( 47 ) SUPERNATURAL THING - Ben E. My record of the week 60 years ago
I like The In Crowd but it's not a patch on the monster-epic that is Bryan Ferry's 1974 cover. Glam on steroids with horns as in ya face as you get. The Last Time is a goodie and def one I heard on telly of the time, the Georgie Fame I have no memory of at all, and Concrete & Clay is another I knew an got reminded of in 1976 when Randy Edelman covered it. The original hit is the better version, but overall its the Stones for me.

john v's 2nd March 2025 chart - it's Alan Walker vs Alex Warren on top
2nd March 2025 It's a first week on top for Alex Warren and his great building ballad Ordinary, holding off Alan Walker and the fab Who I Am, Middle Eastern vibes and all as Afrobeats-ish Control Of Me is up to 4 for Topic and Daecolm. Sabrina Carpenter makes it to the top 10 for the third time, she's a very Busy Woman these days, while I'm In Love With A German Film Star gives Andy Bell and 90's mates a slot where The Passions first took it in 1981, Damiano David meanwhile does what Maneskin never did - grab a top 10 in my chart. New entries are headed by yet another Armin van Buuren track, he's pushing 'em out on a weekly basis of late, this time Bon Jovi's 1992 chart-topper Keep The Faith gets the pounding dance remake and enters at 49. Don Diablo is back after a lengthy break with dance bop The Way I Are which appears to revamp the old Timbaland number one of the 2000's. There's more dance from Hayley May, and Jonas Blue, and some Country from Lainey Wilson on the rather good Whirlwind, some Bluegrass/traditional folk from Alison Krauss and Union Station on the 150-year-old tragic-tale of Granite Mills, but Alison gifts vocal duties to bandmate Russell Moore for 30 years of charting here. We lost Nu-Soul star Angie Stone to a car crash this week, so her fabulous O'Jays rewrite from the early 2000's I Wish I Didn't Miss You returns again, Shaggy is back with Sting for some fun reggae old-stylee and 33 years of chart action for Shaggy and 46 years for former pin-up Sting. Blossoms keep their run of great poprock singles with Mariah Carey Through Death Valley. I have been to Death Valley and I didn't spot Mariah, though I was singing They Call The Wind Mariah around 55 years ago. Finally, it's a welcome return to a very mellow Saint Etienne who have been low-key for quite some time 32 years into their chart career, but I do follow them on X, which if nothing else shows that's one reason to put up with the Muskness Cess Pit for now. 1 2 1 4 ORDINARY - Alex Warren 311400 2 4 2 5 WHO I AM - Alan Walker featuring Putri Ariana & Peder Elias 207800 3 1 1 6 HAMMER TO THE HEART - Teddy Swims 618750 4 7 4 6 CONTROL OF ME - Topic x Daecolm 182400 5 5 1 10 THE PROUD ONE - The Osmonds 695000 6 8 4 7 PINK PONY CLUB - Chappell Roan 246400 7 20 7 3 BUSY WOMAN - Sabrina Carpenter 87900 8 19 8 8 I’M IN LOVE... - Andy Bell featuring Dot Allison and Michael Rother 151400 9 9 5 5 CHASING PARADISE - Kygo & OneRepublic 276000 10 16 10 5 BORN WITH A BROKEN HEART - Damiano David 109800 11 11 11 7 NO BAD VIBES - Jazzy & KILIMANJARO 160400 12 3 1 9 MORE THAN A WOMAN - Tavares 455000 13 13 10 6 A TEAR IN SPACE (AIRLOCK) - Glass Animals 178000 14 6 6 8 COLD DREAMING - Doves 153000 15 21 15 5 AS TEARS GO BY - Marianne Faithfull 90150 16 12 8 10 BEAUTIFUL THAT WAY - Miley Cyrus 220300 17 14 1 16 PEOPLE WATCHING - Sam Fender 645900 18 18 1 16 LATE NIGHT PHONE CALL - Reverend And The Makers 1382800 19 38 19 4 WEIGHT OF DESIRE - Tennis 54800 20 22 20 5 WAY OUT - Jet Trouble 81700 21 15 7 6 RIPPLE - Good Neighbours 212250 22 23 22 5 LIGHTHOUSE - Kim Wilde 69750 23 17 2 13 THE DARK END OF THE STREET - Pet Shop Boys 530100 24 29 24 5 FANCY - Artemas 96700 25 25 7 16 ALL YOUR FAULT - Gwen Stefani 358750 26 34 26 5 CRYING, LAUGHING, LOVING, LYING - Labi Siffre 66200 27 37 27 4 ANDY (A GUY LIKE YOU) - The Waterboys 54950 28 10 10 8 LET ME IN - The Osmonds 149950 29 33 29 5 DO THINGS MY OWN WAY - Sparks 65200 30 24 1 16 EXTREME WAYS - Armin van Buuren & Moby 1248250 31 36 31 5 THE BALLAD OF LUCY JORDAN - Marianne Faithfull 66000 32 50 32 4 REVELATION - The Knocks & Dragonette 51400 33 49 33 2 REVOLUTION - Mans Zelmerlow 29800 34 26 1 15 APT. - ROSE & Bruno Mars 815450 35 35 35 9 GIMME LITTLE SIGN - Brenton Wood 121350 36 27 20 8 KEEP ME SATISFIED - Jungle 130500 37 28 5 9 EUPHORIA - Armin van Buuren, Norma Jean Martine & LAWRENT with Alok 253600 38 39 38 5 HUNT YOU DOWN - ALT BLK ERA 73400 39 43 39 4 ABRADACABRA - Lady Gaga 48300 40 31 18 13 BOUQUET - Gwen Stefani 184000 41 44 41 9 LOVE ME FOR A REASON - The Osmonds 87500 42 41 1 23 YOU AGAIN - The Lottery Winners featuring Reverend And The Makers 1090950 43 51 43 3 LAST NIGHT I DREAMT I FELL IN LOVE - Alok & Kylie Minogue 30650 44 66 44 2 TURN AROUND - The Lottery Winners 20050 45 32 11 14 CAN’T SLOW DOWN - almost Monday 284050 46 30 21 13 LIVE FOREVER - Chesney Hawkes 181750 47 42 1 26 NEVER GOING HOME TONIGHT - David Guetta & Alesso featuring Madison Love 1162500 48 55 4 45 FEEL - Pet Shop Boys 1128350 49 NEW 49 1 KEEP THE FAITH - Armin van Buuren & Bon Jovi 12100 50 75 50 2 HALO - KEiiNO 17000 51 40 14 12 BARBARELLA - Betty Boo 185400 52 45 3 15 DISCO AT THE STRIP CLUB - Reve 753850 53 60 53 5 GOOD NEWS - Shaboozey 40850 54 62 54 4 LUTHER - Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA, Luther Vandross & Cheryl Lynn 31200 55 61 55 3 CRY FOR ME - The Weeknd 24900 56 56 1 26 THE GIRL THAT I CALL HOME - Tears For Fears 1048300 57 NEW 57 1 THE WAY I ARE - Don Diablo 10400 58 68 58 4 SOMEBODY’S SON - Empire Of The Sun featuring Lindsey Buckingham 26200 59 65 59 2 BUTTERFLY - Marina 17100 60 NEW 60 1 WANT U - Hayley May 10000 61 54 54 6 NO ONE NOTICED - The Marias 49000 62 57 10 29 DIE WITH A SMILE - Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars 476650 63 NEW 63 1 WHIRLWIND - Lainey Wilson 7200 64 74 64 2 KILLING ME SOFTLY WITH HIS SONG - Roberta Flack 12300 65 NEW 65 1 WISH I DIDN’T MISS YOU - Angie Stone 7000 66 47 16 13 NIGHTMARE - Geowulf 221650 67 NEW 67 1 MARIAH CAREY THROUGH DEATH VALLEY - Blossoms 6600 68 NEW 68 1 GRANITE MILLS - Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Russell Moore 6400 69 52 4 17 WITHOUT YA - Bakermat featuring Gladys Knight 535300 70 72 70 3 VICE - Rizzle Kicks 16000 71 73 71 2 WAKE ME UP - The Weeknd featuring Justice 11200 72 NEW 72 1 LIFELINE - Jonas Blue featuring Izzy Bizu 5600 73 46 46 6 MESSY - Lola Young 60050 74 79 74 2 ETON RIFLES - The Jam 9400 75 NEW 75 1 TIL A MAWNIN - Shaggy featuring Sting 5000 76 78 76 3 THE ABYSS - The Weeknd & Lana Del Ray 13400 77 48 48 6 FOLLOW ME - Special Interest featuring Amanda Lear 56900 78 71 71 4 NEW YORK MINUTE - Dion 19000 79 76 76 4 SWEET SISTER SORROW - The Primitives 18200 80 NEW 80 1 ALONE TOGETHER - Saint Etienne 4000 DROP OUTS 53 13 19 TABOO - Kylie Minogue 347700 58 20 12 ANOTHER NIGHT - Grace Davies 174500 59 14 14 MIDNIGHT TRAIN - Kim Wilde 214450 63 1 25 HEART LIKE MINE - Sam Feldt featuring Rosa Linn 1102950 64 52 5 THE KILLING MOON - Echo & The Bunnymen 41500 67 44 9 HURT - OneRepublic featuring Jelly Roll 90350 69 64 5 CRIMINALS - Meghan Trainor 31500 70 68 6 BUILD IT UP - Franz Ferdinand 35600 77 64 7 HEY YA! - Tom Speight featuring Lydia Clowes 37400 80 72 4 ARM’S LENGTH - Sam Fender 19600

AH Gold Chart - w/e 8th March 2025
Hi AH! 🙂 Hope this is an easier week for you (and weeknd too!) 👍 I've come to the conclusion that no matter how much time I set aside for new music it's never enough. I have an addiction, there I've said it!! I did at least break into my backlog of unplayed CD's. I played Oasis Time Flies and was pleasantly surprised how much better a lot of stuff was than I thought it was. Memory is an odd thing. 🙄 Fabulous chart! 😎

John v's 23rd February 2025 charts - it's Teddy Swims vs Alex Warren on top...
Hi AH! 🙂 Good to hear about the toothache, but I know all about blocked ears, a regular nuisance for me, I pay £50 to get them sucked out every few years. Olive oil dribbling everywhere for 2 weeks previously and then a very nice man takes over with his machine. It's a relief to hear a pin drop for a while 😄 Yeah OK ta, walking yesterday, wimbledon in a couple of hours for the weekend, then back for more chartstuff, quiz, and more meets with friends for cuppa n chat, and That'll Be The Day show with my Aunty, now 85, in Weymouth. I tell you retirement is very busy! Hope that gives hope for much much later! 😄 Thanks for the picks and comments as always ❤️! Killing Me Softly, yes I can see not being a fan, I got so sick of the Fugees cover it made me get fed up with the song for quite a while too. Oddly it took me seeing Play Misty For Me (what a great film! The original warped stalker movie) to get into First Time Ever, but I love it now. It's not in my charts as it's already had 3 or 4 runs. I nearly charted Back Together Again too, but her other biggies have recharted too previously. Cheers and have a great week! 😎

My record of the week 60 years ago
Silhouettes is one of those songs I liked at the time, great tune, and then forgot about completely until I bought Herman's Greatest Hits CD, at which point I went "Of course! I loved that one". Cliff did a lesser cover too a few decades later. Sandie Shaw, bought her vinyl hits circa 1976, played it a lot, I'll Stop At Nothing included, one I liked. Don't know the Twinkle track, but it's very Terry, but a bit more upbeat! Very nice. The Pretty Things a bit too raucous for me to get to hear on telly of the time, it's OK. Never heard it before that I recall. My mum and Aunty loved P.J. Proby, and my Aunty still wants to see him, she almost got tickets for his last tour. So I googled last week, and errr, basically one interview did his career in. Persona Non Grata. Not done anything illegal, but an opinion you can't walk back from. Ah well taking my Aunty to a golden oldies show of songs from the 50's to 80's instead. He was a great singer though. I've been aware of Goldie & The Gingerbreads for years, and I think Herman's Hermits covered this song too, and it was popping up in covers in the 70's, but this original passed me by entirely. Herman's cover is better. All of which goes to lead up to agreeing about The Who's I Can't Explain as the best record here. But I think my heart belongs to Silhouettes. So what was I doing in Mid to late Feb 1965? So this was the weekend I got traumatised, as I write at length on Monday 22nd Feb: It was the image of a lady caterpillar/butterfly dying with her head stuck in a wall that haunted me. Katy the mouse died I think later in the year and got replaced with a rabbit, which also died. I'm not saying I loved them to death, but it is possible.... I saw The Shadows on TV, and Kathy Kirby on Juke Box Jury, great show that one, she was a fave, and that Premium Bond is still in my possession. It took around 20 years but my number came up! I won £50 in new Premium Bonds, which have never won a thing. My brother's Premium Bond never won, so he bought shotloads 2 years ago (the maximum permitted) and has won several thousand in dribs and drabs. I must get round to buying some more....

My 1975 Retro Revamped Charts
22nd February 1975 It's a big week on the retro chart as 1975 finally wakes up in one huge release of great singles, 17 of them headed by Gloria Gaynor new in at 1 with her stomping cover of Reach Out I'll Be There. It was never going to rival the massive Motown classic that is The Four Tops' original, but Disco Queen Gloria updates it for a new disco audience, BPM's up front and on show. It topped my chart at the time, as did four other of the new entries, starting with Elton John's Philadelphia Freedom, disco ode to Billie-Jean King, tennis legend, and in at 2 to give Elt his biggest single since Bennie & The Jets. Also new in, at 3, and charting in Europe 5 or 6 months ahead of breaking the UK, Bimbo Jets' largely instrumental synth-flavoured bop El Bimbo, cheese-factor on show and showing an early indication that Europe would be ahead of the game when it comes to synthpop, and another number one for me in 1975. Also a number one, German disco act Silver Convention debut at 11 as they get released in the USA with Save Me, one I bought and played a lot into the early hot summer of '75 as I was busy revising for exams. Lush orchestral disco music was a big theme for 1975 as Glam died a slow death and the new pop was Disco, glitter-balls and all. The Rubettes are back with a 4th hit at 26, I Can Do It, singalong pop Glam Rock in synch with Jukebox Jive, and Hot Chocolate debut at 27 with a monster disco anthem from late in the year, You Sexy Thing. The record has managed to chart across subsequent decades and remains well known, and topped my chart in 1987 as a remix version, but this original slipped out as a B Side to Blue Night - in at 73 and a flop at the time - which seems incredible 50 years on. I can only put it down to upbeat Cheri Baby only scraping into the charts, where the maudlin Emma was top 3, so they took what seemed the safer option with the equally-maudlin Blue Night. Barry White is also back after a mega-successful 1974 not taking any risks with his format, What Am I Gonna Do With You at 28, while new at 45 it's wannabe popstars Shaggy Tiger and the rather good Slow Down. It never got much Radio 1 exposure, as I recall it was more Radio Luxembourg, or kids TV pop shows, but it sounds a couple of years ahead of it's time looking back, not happy-clappy like the majority of 1975 pop-rock singles. Just behind and Peter Shelley follows up his Gee Baby with another song that Alvin Stardust must have turned down, the very twee and sentimental Love Me Love My Dog, not a huge fave of mine at the time, but as you get older you get nostalgic and sentimental, and it's really rather sweet. Nice airy production. Talking of Shane Fenton, 60's popstar... The Bay City Rollers have given up their hit-songwriting team/s and opted for a 60's cover - Bye Bye Baby is a Four Seasons song that like much of their back-catalogue, wasnt a hit in the UK for them. In fact, so many great songs remained unknown they were about to spearhead many a big hit cover and grab their own comeback with way better records. Bye Bye Baby is very much peak Rollers, and it's catchy enough, but not a patch on some of their earlier stuff pre-1974. Eurovision, meanwhile, had gone for Cliff twice and almost won, so why not The Shadows as well, with a singalong decent single Let Me Be The One, returning them to the UK charts for the first time in a decade (and coming second in Eurovision, as per normal for the UK, I think). Ditto at 65, 60's popstar and future sitcom actor Mike Berry nicks the version of Don't Be Cruel off Billy Swan's I Can Help album, slows it even further, turns it darker, and revitalises the Elvis 50's oldie, even though it wasn't a hit Billy Swan would get his own back later in the year when the UK releases it as a single. Duane Eddy & The Rebelettes also bring back the girlie chorus and twangy guitar into the UK chart with Play Me Like Your Old Guitar at 66, making this a big 60's acts return week. As far as my charts are concerned, they are all pre-date 1967 and therefore all debut. That leaves Linda Lewis releasing a gifted Cat Stevens song for a 4th retro charter, and like Mike Berry flopping, but like Billy Swan, Cat Stevens would chart his own version of Remember The Days Of The Old School-Yard down the line in 1977. Kenny follow-up The Bump, meanwhile, with the very annoying and shrill Fancy Pants. It's fair to say I have never been a fan. 1 ( NEW ) REACH OUT I’LL BE THERE - Gloria Gaynor # 1 2 ( NEW ) PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM - Elton John Band # 2 3 ( NEW ) EL BIMBO - Bimbo Jets # 3 4 ( 6 ) SWING YOUR DADDY - Jim Gilstrap # 4 5 ( 1 ) JANUARY - Pilot # 1 6 ( 2 ) MAKE ME SMILE (COME UP AND SEE ME) - Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel # 1 7 ( 3 ) ONE DAY IN YOUR LIFE - Michael Jackson # 1 8 ( 10 ) SUPERGIRL - Graham Bonney # 8 9 ( 5 ) YOUR KISS IS SWEET - Syreeta # 5 10 ( 9 ) #9 DREAM - John Lennon # 1 11 ( NEW ) SAVE ME - Silver Convention # 11 12 ( 13 ) MY ELUSIVE DREAMS - Charlie Rich # 12 13 ( 17 ) BLANKET ON THE GROUND - Billie Jo Spears # 13 14 ( 4 ) HAVE YOU NEVER BEEN MELLOW - Olivia Newton-John # 2 15 ( 8 ) LOVIN' YOU - Minnie Ripperton # 1 16 ( 12 ) JACKIE BLUE - The Ozark Mountain Daredevils # 4 17 ( 7 ) I’M ON MY WAY - Dean Parrish # 7 18 ( 18 ) AUTOBAHN - Kraftwerk # 18 19 ( 15 ) CHILD OF LOVE - Caston & Majors # 1 20 ( 14 ) MY HEART’S SYMPHONY - Gary Lewis & The Playboys # 12 21 ( 24 ) ROLL ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY - Bachman-Turner Overdrive # 21 22 ( 29 ) L-O-V-E (LOVE) - Al Green # 22 23 ( 11 ) ONLY YOU AND ROCK AND ROLL - Redbone # 9 24 ( 16 ) WE’RE ALMOST THERE - Michael Jackson # 16 25 ( 36 ) YOUNG AMERICANS - David Bowie # 25 26 ( NEW ) I CAN DO IT - The Rubettes # 26 27 ( NEW ) YOU SEXY THING - Hot Chocolate # 27 28 ( NEW ) WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH YOU - Barry White # 28 29 ( 19 ) BE MY BABY - The Ronettes # 1 30 ( 25 ) WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO? - Diana Ross & The Supremes # 3 31 ( 34 ) SINCE I FOUND MY BABY - Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose # 15 32 ( 22 ) THE BARGAIN STORE - Dolly Parton # 22 33 ( 20 ) GOODBYE MY LOVE - The Glitter Band # 9 34 ( 30 ) THE QUEEN OF 1964 - Neil Sedaka # 30 35 ( 32 ) THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - Lulu # 7 36 ( 40 ) FELICITA TA TA - Raffaella Carra # 36 37 ( 21 ) THEN I CHANGE HANDS - Mick Robertson # 21 38 ( 35 ) PURELY BY COINCIDENCE - Sweet Sensation # 28 39 ( 37 ) THE SECRETS THAT YOU KEEP - Mud # 37 40 ( 39 ) THE ORINOCO KID - The Wombles # 15 41 ( 26 ) CAN’T GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD - Electric Light Orchestra # 1 42 ( 28 ) THERE’S A WHOLE LOT OF LOVING - Guys & Dolls # 7 43 ( 27 ) HOW DOES IT FEEL - Slade # 10 44 ( 33 ) STREET CORNER MUSIC - Dave Jordan # 33 45 ( NEW ) SLOW DOWN - Shabby Tiger # 45 46 ( NEW ) LOVE ME LOVE MY DOG - Peter Shelley # 46 47 ( 50 ) SUPERNATURAL THING - Ben E.
