A game of two halves if ever there was one. Up to Bowie it was classic TOTP then the quality fell rapidly away after that. That Billy Preston duet was dreck and I didn't even realise that was Chic it was so bad. A brief dose of class in the final five from Pink Floyd brought the proceedings to a good end. My 5 year old loved ABITW as well! And she recognised Bowie from having watched Labyrinth!

I had never been a huge dance fan (no surprises there!) but I had liked some acid House stuff. Then I really started to get into stuff like The first Chem Bros album, Spooky and Fluke. But this was a perfect amalgamation of dance and indie with a large dash of Krautrock in places (which I was just starting to listen to.) I can't listen to Second Toughest at all. That I do find tedious. But what do I know, I didn't like the Prodigy til I heard some of The Jilted Generation and I only listened to that because PWEI were on it.

(MK2 of Underworld that is, might as well be a completely different group from MKI) Influenced by the same aesthetic that informed Screamadelica where anything and everything (everything!) was ripe for plundering and warping into something new. This is one of the forerunners of the Big Beat explosion that rivalled Brit Pop at the time for popularity and exposure. Good grief! Wildest Dreams is such a rip off. Unbelievable. Did she think anyone wouldn't notice? The chorus might as well have gone "Standing in a red dress" and then the tribute would have been complete. And who uses nice in a bloody lyric anyway.
