  1. Thanks to everyone who submitted nominations and votes.
  2. 1. (491) Chvrches - The Mother We Share gV9c6gBK6CU So there we have it. Your song of the year. Chvrches were definitely one of the breakout bands of the year and it's quite nice one of the young upstarts has beaten out some of the other more "veteran" acts.
  3. 2. (476) Arcade Fire - Reflektor 7E0fVfectDo Probably the song a lot of people thought would be the #1, it was pipped at the post by someone else.
  4. 3. (466) Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? bpOSxM0rNPM So the last Monkeys track reaches #3. This was the first Top 20 hit for 4 years and signalled a renaissance in their fortunes.
  5. After a brief look it was Lana Del Rey, Crystal Castles, St. Vincent, Alt-J, Jack White, Chvrches first single, The Drums, Beach House, Grimes, Tame Impala, Justice, forever waiting for M.I.A. ...
  6. No I don't think there was either. Maybe we should do one then. I've got something on the go after this but there's no real rush is there? Only a year late.
  7. I find quite a few of these songs baffling but I guess that's because I am an old fart.
  8. So it's the Monkeys vs Arcade Fire vs Chvrches for the winner. Top 3 up later.
  9. 4. (427) Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? 6366dxFf-Os The second highest of the Monkeys' tracks, another great track from the surprisingly reilient (chart-wise) album AM.
  10. 5. (420) Foals - My Number bAsGFnLl2u0 Down to the top 5 and Foals fill the 1st of the last five spots. Actually managing to breach the Top 30 this confirmed Foals in the top drawer of indie bands.
  11. Did you really hate it that much? I would have to think a record was really quite shit to pull it off not even half way through.
  12. 10 The Smiths 9 Radiohead 8 Black Sabbath 7 AC/DC 6 The Velvet Underground 5. Jimi Hendrix 4. Pixies 3. Blur 2. The Fall 1. Joy Division God that was hard and I'll probably disagree with myself in 5 minutes time but that will have to stand.
  13. Yep Strong was at #11. Now sorted. Thank you!
  14. So we have 5 tracks left: Foals, Chvrches, Arcade Fire and two from the Monkeys. The final countdown will be coming later....
  15. 6. (360) Bastille - Pompeii F90Cw4l-8NY Well you can't deny the success of this song in 2013 even if you're not overly fond of the track. Funny how this has been used as an example of the return of guitar pop when you can hardly hear any... ...and the intro sounds too close to Orinoco Flow for comfort.
  16. 7. (320) London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years pkeDBwsIaZw 2013 was certainly a good year for London Grammar, producing an album that has continued to sell since it release and managing that rare (nowadays) feat of an indie band having top 40 hits.
  17. 8. (299) Arcade Fire - Afterlife EcKinnMXuKg So another album from Arcade Fire and another #1 album. This is the first of two nominated tracks from them and both have made the Top 10.
  18. http://f0.bcbits.com/img/a1315393803_2.jpg This is the second release from goth-folkie Chelsea Wolfe and gravel voiced folkie King Dude. This is the best duet I have heard for ages, possibly since the Nick Cave murder ballads he did with Kylie and PJ Harvey. This does resemble that track but is more about the intense attraction two people can have for each other and the intense mood of the music suits the lyric down to the ground. A superb track. mw3fTBd0R0g And the more laid back b-side GFtgmDfrnTk
  19. What do you think of it now? Surely some of the tracks must be familiar to you?
  20. 9. (282) Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine? VQH8ZTgna3Q So here come the Monkeys with the first of 3 tracks in the Top 10. It was very much their year with another number one album culminating in their Brit Awards win and the most interesting speech from a Brits winner for quite a few years. And yes this was released first in 2012 but it was on the album and eligible for the vote.
  21. 10. (277) Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege jmRI3Ew4BvA At #10 we have Yeah Yeah Yeahs who prove they can still turn out a gem of a tune (even if they couldn't quite sustain it over the course of the subsequent album.) The video is also worth a watch if you haven't seen it And best use of a choir in 2013.
  22. DZ Deathrays, those bratty Oz punks, have their 2nd album out in May. Ahead of that, the pair have released a video for their new song Gina Works At Hearts. No it's not earth shattering but I really liked the first album and on first listen this is more of the same. Hzs-de_SztQ#t=22
  23. I'll be posting the Top 10 individually. I'll hopefully be able to start this later!
  24. Ue O Muite Arukō is better known as Sukiyaki (if that hasn't been posted before)
  25. 19-11: 11 (275) 12 (262) 13 (248) 14 (242) Autre Ne Veut - Play By Play 15 (224) 16 (221) 16 (221) 18 (212) 19 (210) 19 (210) Top 10 next
