Indie/Alt song of the Year 2013
29-21: 21 (206) 22 (202) Primal Scream - 2013 23 (201) 24 (194) 25 (193) 26 (191) 27 (190) 28 (188) 29 (182) 29 (182) Lots of old favourites here. Lorde probably at about the right position but it's not her highest song. And no I don't know what Clean Bandit are doing here either. I missed that one.

Indie/Alt song of the Year 2013
39-31: 31 (177) 32 (174) 33 (173) 34 (172) 35 (171) 36 (167) 36 (167) 38 (163) 39 (161) 39 (161) M83 feat. Susanne Sundfør - Oblivion 39 (161) A couple of forum favourites here with St. Lucia, (one of) Chvrches and Hearts going out here. Also surprisingly low is Laura Palmer considering the support it has had in the forum.

Classic Album #2 - The Smiths - The Smiths
Well posting a new classic album today could only be about one album. On the 20th February 1984 The Smiths released their debut album, an album and a band that continues to resonate today. Although much has been made of the distinctly 80s production (especially the drum sound - a barb thrown Kate Bush's way as well as if that masks the sublimeness of the music!) the quality of the songwriting shines through on material like Suffer The Children with its story of the Moors Murders. Included were versions of Hand In Glove and What Difference Does It Make? but bizarrely (in a time of milking albums for singles) This Charming Man was not even on the original release. The Smiths would go on to release many non-album singles including some of their best songs. I can't say this about many bands but they really did change my life, altering the way I thought about so many different things. Has their debut stood the test of time? G0KCDcRNTFo 1. "Reel Around the Fountain" 2. "You've Got Everything Now" 3. "Miserable Lie" 4. "Pretty Girls Make Graves" 5. "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" 6. "Still Ill" 7. "Hand in Glove" 8. "What Difference Does It Make?" 9. "I Don't Owe You Anything" 10. "Suffer Little Children" The remastered version has This Charming Man at 6.

Young Widows - Easy Pain
http://cdn.pitchfork.com/tracks/16640/homepage_large.100bf48a.jpg I don't remember hearing about this lot before but the first single from their 4th album is glorious NOISE! I've seen this described as psychedelic, goth and glam but all I know is I like it. A lot. Can't wait to hear the album.

"British public's taste for guitar music returning"
- Brody Dalle - Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy
Whatever you think of her (ex-Distiller, ex-Spinnerette, Mrs. Josh Homme, low-rent Courtney or whatever) Brody Dalle has come back with a rather good lead single from her as yet untitled new album. AND it's featuring Shirley Manson as well. I'm really looking forward to hearing this album.- "British public's taste for guitar music returning"
Yeah but taking his statement in the broadest sense guitar based music does not equal "landfill" indie alone. Is this bloke at radio one really fixated on the scene from 10 years ago? I don't know if he does want a return to that scene anyway. His background is Kiss Fm and 1Xtra so I think he's justcalling what he sees.- "British public's taste for guitar music returning"
I think this is a reflection of the fact that rock albums outsold pop albums for the first time in 4 years. I just see a split in terms of the singles and albums markets.- The Dead Weather - Open Up (That's Enough)
Ahead of a 2015 album release, Jack White and Alison Mossheart have reconvened The Dead Weather with a fab new single. The Dead Weather was my least favourite of Jack White's various endeavours but this is a great track. Apparently there will be further single releases which will then be compiled onto the new album. 3lYstaUzjHs- Trust 'Joyland'
Terrible euro synth-pop circa 1985 (by the way I don't think Euro synth pop is bad but this is atrocious)- St. Vincent 'St. Vincent' · February 24 2014
A really good album from start to finish. Love so many of the tracks and they are all more interesting than the two singles. Excellent- Saol Álainn 'Nostroke / Cis.Cism'
This is from a member of Foster the People? But this is good! I love nostroke. Not so keen on Cis.Cism so far but I would happily listen again.- Indie/Alt song of the Year 2013
So all four Arctic Monkey's tracks finish in the Top 40 as well as both The Arcade Fire nominations and Chvrches as well. Postiljonen and London Grammar also make it through as unfortunately does Tom Odell. Who's gonna make the top 10 and which song will be crowned The Indie/Alt song of the year?- Indie/Alt song of the Year 2013
49-42: 42 (159) 42 (159) 44 (157) 44 (157) 46 (153) 47 (149) 48 (147) Jai Paul - Str8 Outta Mumbai 49 (142) 49 (142) So Kodaline and The Knife finish just outside the Top 40 as does Jake Bugg's only nominated track.- Indie/Alt song of the Year 2013
59 to 51: 51 (140) 52 (137) 53 (135) 54 (132) 54 (132) 56 (130) 57 (128) Young Galaxy - Fall for You 58 (126) 59 (125) jj - Fågelsången 59 (125) Highlights of this batch are the lead Pixies track off the comeback EP, the lovely Vaults and the excelllent Savages track. Shame Signal 30 didn't quite crack the top 50. Really getting into it at the moment.- It was 20 years ago today
Classic song and EP but I do prefer some of their other tracks.- Classic Albums #1: Radiohead - Kid A
side splitting that!- St. Vincent 'St. Vincent' · February 24 2014
Only heard the first few tracks but Rattlesnake and Prince Johny both show up Birth in Reverse as completely inferior. Will be listening to the rest this morning.- Classic Albums #1: Radiohead - Kid A
Just have to agree with Harve here, Much as I love what Autechre and Aphex Twin. they could never have taken an album that contained sounds like these to #1 in either the UK or the US. I see this album as doing much the same that Bowie did with Low and Heroes, taking left-field to a much larger audience.- Indie/Alt song of the Year 2013
69 to 61: 61 (123) HAERTS - Hemiplegia 62 (117) Ghost Beach - Close Enough 63 (115) 64 (114) 65 (113) 66 (109) 67 (106) 68 (104) 69 (102) 69 (102) 69 (102) 69 (102) So almost half way and some of the bigger names are starting to creep in. Editors, Kings of Leon and Suede all here with songs that are shadows of their former selves. (Although Barriers is a track I do like.)- Indie/Alt song of the Year 2013
Here's 80-73: 73 (098) 74 (097) 75 (095) 75 (095) 77 (094) 78 (093) 79 (090) 80 (087) 80 (087) Josef Salvat - Hustler A little surprised that The Dame only got to #78. - Brody Dalle - Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy
