  1. The Quietus >>>>>>>>>>>>p4k>nme No I'm not sorry either.
  2. Did we get separated at birth or something? It's quite unbelievable how much we do agree on stuff (to do with musical tastes at any rate).
  3. Right from the last god knows how many years just off the top of my head: The Human League Kylie (not the SAW years) Madonna Abba Blondie The Beatles Adam and the Ants Frankie Goes To Hollywood Kim Wilde Marina and the Diamonds Prince (Early) Depeche Mode OMD Madness Robyn Lady Gaga (Fame Monster period) Christina Aguilera Girls Aloud Sugababes The Police The Beach Boys Transvision Vamp Sophie Ellis-Bextor and others...
  4. I have loved pure pop music. A lot of your choices were bland MOR Radio 2 fodder - not what I'd call pop at all. Such as these from your list: Dana - 10 Brotherhood Of Man - 9 Olivia Newton-John - 9 Carpenters - 9 New Seekers - 9 Bucks Fizz - 9 Lynsey De Paul - 8 Mary Hopkin - 6 Marie Osmond - 5 Cilla Black - 4 Twiggy - 4 Middle Of The Road - 4 Elaine Paige - 4 And PopChartFreak (Is it Dave? I can't remember!) this is what a mid 30s woman might have bought back in the day.
  5. I was going to edit my post along the lines of what you said. I think I was being too harsh there - it is Alex's second (or third?) language and so I should cut some slack. SL2 was a dance track and I don't see dance as being a solely male-orientated genre. White indie pop definitely though (apart from Britpop). A woman in her thirties I would have thought may be more inclined towards the CelineDion/Michael Bolton axis. Although that's probably misinformed as well. Oh and it's not what's cool either. My enduring love of Toyah and Queen (as well as other artists) would hardly be classed as cool...
  6. Think you're wrong on most counts there. You come across as so patronising sometimes. I was in my twenties by 1991. Most of your choices from the 70s and 80s are utter bilge. I have been watching Anthony's thread and I would rather listen to SL2 20 times than watch 5 seconds of Sophie Lawrence.

I was so into The Shamen. Right from the In Gorbachev We Trust album. En-Tact was an immense album and my love carried on to the Boss Drum album too, even though it was more poppy/dancey. It was an absolute joy seeing Ebeneezer get to the top spot. Surprising as it may seem I do like some dance music. Not much it has to be said but USURA nearly made #1 for me as did Utah Saints and other Shamen tracks. If I went back Pro-Gen should really have done and Make It Mine should definitely have done. But I was so heavily into Grunge/Shoegaze/T-shirt indie/goth/metal, dance didn't get that much of a look-in.
  8. Just heard this, finest scuzz/biker rock. Originally released in 2012 but apparently given a rerelease. (Only found out about this by reading the metal column at The Quietus. Everyone should really check this out. In fact the whole site knocks seven shades out of pitchfork.) TE2dHvwA4bo ePputnIXlVc
  9. TBH though I love LES I don't think it's her most accessible album. I think you'd be better off starting with her debut Dry or To Bring You My Love.
  10. Elbow I can understand as apart from the truly sublime One Day Like This I find them a bit dull and sort of worthy. Peej on the other hand - blasphemy!
  11. I really didn't think I would ever say this but I really don't care about them any more.
  12. Other examples of ultra popular bands I do not get at all are The 1975, London Grammar (bio-engineered clones of The XX) and worst of all the absolutely dreadful Bastille.
  13. Although I do like a couple of tracks, iamgonnagetmybapsoutinthenameofartami is an absolute triumph of style over substance and I am truly mystified why people get so excited by her. Yawn.
  14. Blatant bloody hipster-ism!!!! Arcade Fukkin Fire get my vote.

Yes it was indeed Talk Talk. Would be included in my Top 100 tracks if I ever get around to doing it. Falling was such a beautiful piece of music how could anyone not like it? This would also be included if I could find out the release date: Fh_EWqIFpQQ Worked out close enough where to put it - Nov 1990

I've just about managed to get my number ones from 1990 sorted. Bit behind - oh well! 06-01-90 Fool's Gold The Stone Roses (5 weeks) 10-02-90 Epic - Faith No More (4 weeks) 10-03-90 Sweet Soul Sister - The Cult (4 weeks) 07-04-90 Loaded - Primal Scream (1 week) 14-04-90 Like A Daydream - Ride (3 weeks) 05-05-90 Soon - My Bloody Valentine (5 weeks) 09-06-90 The Only One I Know - The Charlatans (3 weeks) 30-06-90 Wild & Wonderful - The Almighty (2 weeks) 14-07-90 One Love - The Stone Roses (2 weeks) 28-07-90 Kill Your Television (3 weeks) 18-08-90 Velouria - Pixies (2 weeks) 01-09-90 Life's What You Make It (3 weeks) 22-09-90 Thunderstruck - AC/DC (1 week) 29-09-90 Never Enough - The Cure (6 weeks) 10-11-90 Falling Down - Chapterhouse (1 week) 17-11-90 There She Goes - The La's (2 weeks) 31-11-90 Falling - Julee Cruise (2 weeks) 15-12-90 Unbelievable (3 weeks) This list would be a fairly accurate reflection of what I was listening to at the time. Not totally accurate as there would have been loads of retro stuff in the chart as well. I think I had just got The Stooges first two albums and the MC5 debut around this time so they would have been fairly dominant presences in the chart.

Hit was an absolute peach of a song made all the better because that absolute goon Einar was hardly on it shouting incomprehensible gobbledygook. This was one of the reasons why I loved Debut so much. Still not as good as Birthday though.
  22. This lot make Nickelback look like some mad sonic pioneers.

Now that the Big Finish 8th doctor companions have been mentioned within the main series does this mean they are now canon? If not remake some of the stories as episodes now and give the 8th Doctor some well deserved screen time
