So the first 0-0 of the tournament and a 'proper' 0-0 as well - fall asleep time. 4 points will barring a remarkable turn of events see these teams both through to the knockouts as at least best 3rd place with Poland now eliminated. Goes back to what I was saying the other day about competitions should be either 32 or 16 teams and top two going through; none of this 'best losers' crap. Shame the next World Cup will be marred by this best losers format as well.

    It was offside anyway.

Nearly a fourth there, open goal and missed by the Austrian.
  6. Anyway, I do think it's a bit rotten that 10 team South America gets an intercontinental play off slot while 55 team Europe doesn't get any.
  7. I should have done a more thorough search sorry. Feel free to remove this.
  8. Main threads Africa Asia Europe North America Oceania South America As you’ll know - the competition has been extended to 48 teams for the 2026 competition. That means the slot allocation has been changed and is now: AFC - 8 via qualifying CAF - 9 via qualifying CONCACAF - 3 hosts, 3 via qualifying CONMEBOL - 6 via qualifying OFC - 1 via qualifying UEFA - 16 via qualifying (55 countries) 2 more spots are available via intercontinental qualifying play-offs. 9. 13.1m Peak with a 11.2m match average for England v Denmark according to BBC website - there's no programme average as yet. Spain v Italy got 6.2m peak comfortably beating the election debates 3.3m peak on the BBC according to Clive Tyldesley
  10. Argentina win the opener in Atlanta with a 2-0 over Canada with Alvarez and Martinez the scorers in 49' and 88' respectfully. Next match is Peru v Chile at 1am tonight.
  11. To be frank - our own friends were making it a hostile atmosphere if you listened to them. We're worse to our own players than foreign nations our to them. Our national fans are an embarrassment, always have been always will be. When they're not trashing foreign cities they're booing their own players.

Looks like the Spanish are going to break the deadlock - a bit remarkable they haven't so far the amount of attempts they've had.
  13. Teams don't get to finals and semi-finals if they aren't good - regardless of their historic size they were the top teams at those tournaments that knocked us out - as said before either winning the tournament or getting to the final in all 3 cases. We went out to Iceland in 2016 for goodness sake, it's amazing how short peoples memories are. We've gone from worrying about whether we'd even qualify after 2014 and 2016 to going out in the quarter-final in 2022 being seen as a disappointment. That's thanks to Southgate's man management. Club level performances are irrelevant on an international stage. As this afternoons game proved. Loads of great club players turning in poor performances at national level. Either being to selfish (Foden) or too lazy (midfielders not getting forward). It's a draw that would have been a win if it wasn't for a wonder strike off the Dane - you're running away with yourself. If we lose the next game and don't make the knockouts then maybe there's a case to dismiss him - but he'd still go down as an incredibly successful manager in my book. Southgate has given us some of the greatest evenings in England football history and people still won't give him credit for it. England fans are pathetic when it comes to stuff like this and I'm not taking part in the short-term memory, media-led campaign against him after one bad tournament result. Why our so many fans not content unless we lift the trophy? That's an insane bar to set. Finals and semi-finals for a team that didn't qualify for a 2008 Euros and got knocked out in the group stage at the 2014 World Cup and got knocked out by Iceland at the 2016 Euros is some result and turnaround.

Hopefully they both play with the intention to win rather than chasing a draw that will probably get them through anyway as it seems England were this afternoon. Definitely feels like they need to look at either cutting the tournament back to 16 teams or extending to 32 so we can just have top 2 go through - I don't like the best third placed stuff (especially as it's going to affect the next extended world cup with this parasite of a format). I'd prefer cutting it back to 16 and keeping the world cup at 32.

  16. Yep - just on Premier Sports.
  17. Gareth Southgate isn't incompetent - the players are. Too much selfishness from players trying to get their moment - and a lack of energy from players going forward. Acting is if they've been told to get the draw at least - which they certainly wouldn't have. He produces much more out of our team than most of his predecessors. Remember when we didn't qualify for the 2008 Euros, when we got knocked out in the group stages of the 2014 World Cup and when we and when we got knocked out by Iceland at the 2016 Euros.... Few would have imagined we'd get to a World Cup Semi-Final and a Euros final. I think some people to quick to forget how bad we were before Southgate took over. He's done wonders with the team and a few bad results shouldn't see him shown the door. Yes he clearly needs to change things - and he acknowledged that tonight with the subs - but let's give the man his due.
  18. So many empty seats in the stands. Embarrassment for a country like Germany.
  19. Poor performance so far outside of the goal.
  20. Kane scores and 1-0 up
  21. As long as he subs Foden if he plays like he did the other night that's fine.

    And there it is.
  23. For those interested in this stuff: Home Nations Overnight Viewing Figures Scotland v Germany - 6m (10.4m Peak, 9.1m Match Average) England v Serbia - 10.5m (15m Peak, 14.2m Match Average) Scotland v Switzerland - 7m (9.4m Peak, 8.6m Match Average) England v Denmark - - (13.1m Peak, 11.2m Match Average) Scotland v Hungary - 6.7m (10m Peak, 8.4m Match Average) England v Slovenia - 9.2m (15.4m Peak, 14.5m match average) Next Home Nations game is Scotland v Hungary on 8pm Tuesday which should rate well with the Scots looking to get out of the group. The next England game is at 8pm on a Tuesday night and obviously has more riding on it so should get the best ratings of the tournament so far.
