ROUND 1 • Album Survivor
Has to be DNA. The singles are decent but have aged rather poorly, and it houses a few good album tracks ('Red Planet', 'Stereo Soldier'. 'Pretend It's Ok'), but it also contains many of their career lows with none of the oustanding highs like say, 'Get Weird' or 'Glory Days'.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
I hadn’t realised BB tanked that soon. Maybe I was a bit premature with the comment about this not garnering that many casual listens, because it’s already doing better than BB (not exactly a high bar to clear, I know) with no promo, less airplay and less playlist exposure. Plus it has no video to buoy it up, which always gave their singles a substantial boost. Speaking of, I really hope there’s something in the pipeline despite the circumstances. An animated video might be cute. Or even just them dancing in their houses interspersed with shots of the vertical video. The song is too good to not have a video.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
It does concern me slightly that its streaming performance is so heavily bound to its playlist position, because it could suggest that not many people are actively seeking out the track. But I suppose you could make that case for most of the top 40 these days. Part of me hopes their team just brute force it into being a streaming hit like Mabel and ‘Boyfriend’ (and lowkey all her singles). That track has been consistently top 5 on Hot Hits for weeks. Also, this is just refusing to get old for me. Sounds even better in the sunshine.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
Being removed from NMF playlists was a given, but it is slightly worrying that nothing seems to be helping this out on Spotify. I really hope this isn't another 'Bounce Back' scenario where it peaks high and collapses after a week, because this song deserves so much more.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
Looks like this has been moved up on Hot Hits again. Now at #24 with the video #36. Capital are also absolutely spamming this now. I’m assuming it’s been added to the playlist with the highest rotation. We love to see it.
-
Break Up Song • OUT NOW
It’s getting strong rotation too, so I guess it really was just a case of them snubbing it because it wasn’t on the playlist yet. I always figured Capital were more fluid in terms of playing tracks outwith their playlist, but apparently not. Yay for R1 too. I’m hoping this’ll be more of a slow-burner and actually grow with airplay, unlike Bounce Back.

Band Logos • Through the Years
I find the GD/GW era one iconic simply because it represents their imperial phase, but it's objectively quite hideous. I have to give it to LM5 -- it's understated but works. The new one's pretty cute too.
-
Favourite 1st single from each era.
1) Break Up Song 2) Move 3) SOTME 4) WLM 5) Black Magic 6) Wings Its recency probably helps its cause, but 'Break Up Song' is just such a sublime listen that I couldn't not vote it. 'Move' will forever be peak Little Mix though. I'm still in awe they released it only 2 years into their career.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
I'm rooting for Dua as much as the next person, but I think you're a bit lost. Agreed re a top 10 debut being a fantastic result. Anyone suggesting otherwise (hello Chart Prediction/Spotify thread) are seriously misinterpreting their place in the current chart landscape. Measuring their success now relative to the GW/GD eras is just asking to be disappointed. For them to even be scoring minor hits as a girl group over eight years into their career is a feat in itself. Shame about Spotify. I think 'Bounce Back' had held better at this point, but again, it had much more favourable airplay and playlist support. Hoping Capital finally jump on board tomorrow.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
Capital played it because Jade was a guest (again) on the Breakfast Show, so jury’s still out on whether they’re actually supporting it. It’s depressing that they’ve done countless interviews over the past week and Capital are reciprocating by giving them the bare minimum. It really shouldn’t be this difficult for an act of their standing to secure airplay.
-
PREDICT: Where will 'Break Up Song' will chart and peak?
I reckon a debut around #12. Bounce Back started at #2 in the midweeks and slid to #10, so I can see this performing similarly in the first week. I'm going to be optimistic and say an overall peak of #3. The reception to this has been pretty amazing so far and it's holding up well considering the lack of airplay.
-
Break Up Song • OUT NOW
It's also #1 on the Official Big Top 40, which is obviously meaningless but should hopefully encourage Capital to play it. I'm sure I read that their playlist gets updated on a Tuesday -- iirc that's when they started supporting 'Bounce Back'.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
I honestly thought that the recent string of underperformances would diminish their hype slightly, but that’s a fantastic start! The power of a good song!
-
Break Up Song • OUT NOW
Apparently this did 1.28M streams yesterday, which is ~50k less than ‘Bounce Back’. Not horrible considering its worse placements and virtually 0 airplay.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
Yaaas. They’ve also moved the non-video version up. Really got a good feeling about this track!

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
I can’t see a Rita/Ellie-style debut on the cards. NMF + Hot Hots + their fanbase alone should give them a respectable debut. That being said, Capital are paying this dust despite interviewing the girls multiple times the past few days, so that certainly won’t help. I know they took a few days to get on board with ‘Bounce Back’, but it at least had the R1 A-list giving it exposure.

Pa3C3blayWo Lyric video is up! It's actually really well done!

#1 on iTunes!

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
Radio 1 have played this twice already! They’re definitely on board even if it doesn’t get added to the playlist this week. Capital haven’t given it a spin yet (). Also bumped down to #5 on NMF in favour of PND/Rihanna.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
#4 isn't a horrible placing but still a bit :manson: given the songs ahead of it. Kygo, really? Hope it debuts decently regardless. Edit: instantly added to Hot Hits at least! Yas.

Kygo, Zara Larsson, Tyga - Like It Is
Tyga aside (he sounds like actual dogshit), I actually quite like this. It's a bit of a misfire after 'Higher Love' + won't do anything for Zara's commercial prospects rn, but it's a usable bop at least.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
That probably amounts to about 10 sales, but still a good showing given how much their clout has dimished over there. They weren't even top 10 on NMF NZ/AU, so I'm hoping it's a different outcome over here come midnight. The reaction to this seems overwhelmingly positive so far, which warms my heart after the polarised reception to WLM and 'Bounce Back'. I honestly think it might've already leapfrogged 'Move' as my favourite of their leads. Someone over on PopJustice alluded to 'Boys of Summer', which probably explains why I'm so fond of it. That song literally defined my childhood.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
I agree; it often feels like they hop on a trend wayyy too late, so it's nice to see them slightly ahead of the curve for a change. I'm addicted to this already. It's just such an easy listen. It really feels like a spiritual successor to 'Black Magic' (which makes sense if it is indeed a GW rework), so I hope they can tap into the market that felt 'alienated' by their last few releases. I'm low-key worried about what kind of exposure this is going to get on Spotify. I feel there's the chance it could get lost in the shuffle with Dua's new album releasing. Then again, the push 'Bounce Back' got was kinda relentless.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
I'd say SOTME is still their most instant, but I reckon I'll vastly prefer this in the long run. It's more understated and definitely seems like it'll be a grower. Their vocals are heavenly.

Break Up Song • OUT NOW
It’s out there in NZ. I’m obsessed with Leigh’s first verse and Jade’s bridge is genuinely a career highlight. I’d say the verses are actually stronger than the chorus, but the overall package is a massive bop.
