  1. It's quite mad that Heartbeat/Tragedy had first week sales of 66k, yet went on to be their biggest seller and about 7 other songs all had higher first week sales. I'd have thought, given that the album had been out two months at that point that a Double-A side with one song not being on the album would've resulted in higher sales. Better Best Forgotten did 139k in its first week as the 5th single and was on a 6 month old album. Wild.

Sorry, am I being thick here? How would BEP qualify for b)? 17,360 copies wouldn't have qualified them for being number one 11 other times in the year...as this was the lowest on record. 1- NO TOMORROW- Orson (17.694) 2- IT’S CHICO TIME- Chico (17,365) 3- PUMP IT- Black Eyed Peas (17,360)

Thanks for the replies so far, it's a bit awkward with sales certifications as they only came into play in the 80s, If I remember correctly, and record companies have to pay to get audited which means why would a record label in 1990 get a single from 1953 validated? Just wondered as I'm quite interested in actual sales and the 60s seemed wild.

Does anybody have any weekly sales for albums or singles top 5, 10 or 20 for the 50s and 60s? Would be interested to see what a number one or two would sell, also what they had to move to even break into the top tiers.
