  1. Has anybody on here seen updated sales? With the last couple of Christmas period sales to be added to the above, it seems likely there will be some more million sellers in this list in the next 2 to 3 years, if they maintain average sales per year.
  2. Interesting reading. For example is Slade's song really that much ahead of most other Xmas songs. Wizzard's hit is nowhere to be seen in the list and on the figures given that would make Slade's song receiving 20 plus times more airplay every year - which is hardly likely. Wizzard's hit has favourable viewing figures on youtube and has charted above Slade these last few Xmases I think. Plus both songs are usually on the same compilations. Anyone else think these figures are very much a guesstimate, and, or there is missing data?

Many thanks for the info. I assumed that the top 3 had sold at least 500,000 each, but none of them had applied for a second platinum disc, so was unsure if they had sold, or were near to 600,000 plus sales. I think back in 1986 in the Record Mirror that Alan Jones claimed that 'Street Life' sold a total of 200,000 copies in its first 3 weeks (of five) at #1. The Ultimate Collection was certified double platinum in January 1989 for shipments to retailers - not necessarily sales over the counter, and triple platinum in November 1994. Of all the studio albums, I would guess that 'Avalon' has been the most consistent seller since the 1980s and is claimed to be the biggest seller overall. By the way Gezza have you seen the actual sales data, or are they estimates using sales multipliers from chart returns data, or other means?

Hi, Not sure where to post this exactly, but I'm looking for UK sales by Roxy Music - especially albums. I have their Gold/Platinum awards info, but very little on actual sales. Singles Dance Away #2 1979 - 760,000 Jealous Guy #1 1981 - 544,000 I have seen various sales figures between 730,000 and 760,000 for Dance Away. Albums No known sales figures, but 'Flesh & Blood' was placed at #6 on 1980 year end chart, only to be be moved down a place when Genesis sales at, or near end of year overtook it. Is this evidence that year end, or near-year end sales were (at least occasionally) taken into account in determining years best sellers?
