Mel B could've really forged out a solo career completely different the group. I wish she had stuck with Missy & Timbaland - I would've love to hear the direction they would've taken her.

I find it just as interesting that you're willing to overlook the narrative Heidi & Amelle were both willing to spin in order to paint Keisha in a bad light. But all of that is irrelevant now, Keisha is travelling the world, booked and busy with the band she was a founding member of. The others... Strictly will just have to do!

Whether they reunite as a 3 of 4, this will always loom over them. Even Loose Women had it as a topic today and the narrative was 'pop bands are necessarily friends'. Shame on Jesy for ruining what was a great bond. I feel sorry for Perrie, Leigh-Anne & Jade that they constantly have to deal with this drama they didn't sign up for and will no doubt be asked about it when they're ready to promote their solo releases.

Yes, I found it particularly interesting how they spoke about Kate Thornton, then editor of Smash Hits, refusing to come out of her office for the girls because she felt the magazine should be more aligned to the Britpop movement. I actually listened to her podcast show when Louise Redknapp was a guest and she tells a totally different story of how she embraced them. When it reality, she talks about shooting the Smash Hits cover for October 1996, well after they had blown up.

I also can't believe they didn't have the Spice Girls: In America Tour Documentary ready to go for December 98. It would've really helped the promo for 'Goodbye' since they couldn't travel to places internationally and been a big talking point (seeing them go on without Geri). They just chucked it out almost a year after the tour had finished? They could've done so much more with it, I think even Spiceworld: The Documentary would've been a more fitting title and tied in with the era. Without Simon, it was clear there was a lack of plan in place and they were just relying on their previous success to keep them going.

I still can't believe she done nothing with the Popstars: The Rivals gig. She made great connections with ITV (even featuring in the indents at the time) and didn't think to launch a new campaign off that?

I don't think they ever bettered the run of Wannabe- Say You'll Be There - 2 Become 1. They were all great in their own and had a story behind them. The Spiceworld era really lacked in comparison.

In my opinion, Northern Star is better than any Spice album. I'm also surprised Virgin didn't give Reason a stronger push, considering they focused more on Melanie than the group during 99/2000. Maybe they realised the material wasn't as strong as her debut.

You need to remember, outside of an official documentary that's not aired in over 15 years, their story has not been told on such a global level. If they get one of the streaming giants on board, it's going to re-introduce them and their story to those who maybe haven't paid attention since the 90s and maybe even a younger generation who aren't familiar with them. If it's a success, who knows what it may lead to...

When reading through old Billboard Magazines they confirmed the 'Boyfriend/Girlfriend' duet in Studio X in Seattle during a tour stop in Tacoma. The tour date was August 8th 1998 and they had 3 days off prior.

I already mentioned in the girls UK Chart thread when reading through old Music Week magazines they were on shaky ground with the press, radio & TV in 2000. They were playlisting 'Holler' but didn't throw full support behind it like their previous releases. Once the single went in at #1, airplay shot up by quite a margin. It was #1 on MTV UK. But once Forever underperformed, they were all too happy to drop them. 'Holler' began to experience one of the speediest declines on the radio airplay, slipping 2-7-26-23-40-84. It departed the Top 50 3x quicker than any other Top 5 Airplay Hit of that year. This is why I think had the girls done a bit more extensive promo, the era would have been more successful and at least reached 2x Platinum. I also think the Forever era proves the Spice Girls were no puppets and had full creative control, to their detriment in some ways. Who at Virgin Records was approving Mel B to release 'Hotter' one month before 'Forever' and Melanie C to release 'If That Were Me' a couple of weeks after the album release? The label should've put their foot down and known this was no strategy for a major pop act. But I think there was an almost arrogance that demand would be there for Forever, promotion or not.

For me, it's easily Mel C & Left Eye. Lisa embodied the song perfectly with her verse. It still surprises me Virgin pushed I Turn To You in the US as opposed to NBTSA, it would've faired far better imo.

No problem at all, glad to share and love discussing all things charts ^_^ A Music Week article said in Week 6, it had increase of 3% - I think that roughly works out at 124,000? It was the second highest in the list, behind Jamiroquai with a budget of £750k and just in front of All Saints Under The Bridge at £280k. From my understanding, this was the UK label budgets only. Slightly O/T but reading through the old articles confirmed my dislike of All Saints (not their music!), their first interview with Music Week Melanie Blatt goes as far to say "we're better looking than them and have higher IQ's" It always struck me how they would come for Spice Girls marketing gimmick, when their gimmick was to be marketed as the "anti-Spice Girls". Any article containing All Saints always had something to say about the Spice Girls. It was a clear marketing ploy for London Records, who wanted a slice of the Spice phenomenon. Yes, even though Holler got the most radio adds when it was serviced, the likes of Radio 1, MTV & The Box didn't give as much as support as they did with their previous releases. I'm guessing they were unsure of the Spice Girls staying power and didn't want to be seen as supporting something that could be deemed as past it. But when the single went straight in at #1, airplay shot up. It wasn't until the album underperformed they dropped their support, quite drastically as you can see by the figures. It just shows how fickle the media were at the time with the girls.
