17. JENNIE - Mantra 1st Single from tbc Release Date: 11th October 2024 Chart Run: 1-3-2-6-9-12-14-14-17-15-14- (11+ weeks) Official Peak: 37 Crownnote Points Chart: 15 (15/100) End-Of-Year Points Chart: 16 (16/100) Last.fm Chart: =42 (=28/100) Pretty girls don't do drama 'less we wanna, it'll be depending on the day bB3-CUMERIU Jennie's Chart History: 2018 04 Solo 2023 13 One Of The Girls (The Weeknd, Jennie & Lily-Rose Depp) 2023 01 You & Me 2024 01 Mantra Jennie's EOY History: 2018 62 Solo 2023 11 You & Me 2024 17 Mantra Just like last year. I'm making a post about Jennie's EOY entry on her birthday so Happy Birthday again Jennie! 'Mantra' is another massive bop from her and it was great to see it enter the top 40 and stick around for 5 weeks in the top 100. If it wasn't for 'APT.' coming out the following week and absolutely smashing it, this would have been the best result for a BLACKPINK solo track. It's not the most complex song of the year but it delivers exactly what is promises. It's a fun 'bad-bitch' anthem with the right levels of cockiness and braggy lyrics. The only issue is that it's too short. After a day off tomorrow, I'll be back on Saturday to countdown the the last section before the top 10.

18. Freddie Gibbs - It's Your Anniversary Album Track from 'You Only Die 1nce' Release Date: 1st November 2024 Chart Run: 15-5-1-2-2-3-3-3- (8+ weeks) Official Peak: n/a Crownnote Points Chart: 13 (13/100) End-Of-Year Points Chart: 13 (13/100) Last.fm Chart: =73 (=53/100) They'll be posting anniversaries 'bout the day you got hit KKReSmaNBE8 Freddie Gibbs's Chart History: 2022 05 Feel No Pain (feat. Kelly Price) 2024 18 It's Your Anniversary 2024 22 Back To Me (Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign feat. Freddie Gibbs) Earlier on, I described Eminem's 'Brand New Dance' as devilish for it's teasing of Christopher Reeve but Freddie Gibbs obviously heard that and thought, 'I'll show you devilish'. 'It's Your Anniversary' flips Tony! Toni! Toné!'s soulful, romantic ballad 'Anniversary' on it's head to instead refer to a mother tearfully mourning on the anniversary of the death of their rapper son which Freddie has 'killed'. Unfortunately, I've had to link to a dodgy re-upload that doesn't sound great above as the song was removed from YouTube and other streaming services as Freddie never bothered to clear the sample. Luckily, it was still available to purchase and download off his website so I had to spend ACTUALLY MONEY on a song in 2024 to make sure I could continue to listen to it. It's that's not commitment, I don't know what is. This is still on repeat for me and was still riding high in the top 3 in my final chart of 2024. This certainly had potential to be a few places higher had it been released before November.

I've linked to the remix version above as I do enjoy both of versions of the track. I've credited it just solo because it was that version that I was listening to the most when charting it but, over the past couple of months, I've found myself going back more to the Billie Eilish remix. I wasn't sure she sounded right on my first few listens but I'm completely on board now. 'Guess' is potentially one of the more frivolous songs from BRAT, hidden away on the remix and without any sort of deep message. However, it is the most fun moment on the album, in my opinion, with The Dare coming in clutch with the production.

20. Perrie - You Go Your Way 3rd Single from tbc Release Date: 4th October 2024 Chart Run: 1-2-4-4-7-11-17-(x1)-19 (8 weeks) Official Peak: 52 Crownnote Points Chart: 26 (26/100) End-Of-Year Points Chart: 29 (29/100) Last.fm Chart: =64 (=46/100) So I cut my hair, even though I knew better than that XrRuvwPt2_M Perrie's Chart History: 2024 03 Forget About Us 2024 18 Tears 2024 01 You Go Your Way Perrie's EOY History: 2024 20 You Go Your Way 2024 47 Forget About Us This deserved so much better. 'You Go Your Way' is my favourite solo track from any of Little Mix so far and I was devastated that it couldn't even reach the top 40. It feels like Perrie put some real work into it, promoting it heavy on release week and filming a brilliant, one-take music video where she performs full choreography; despite previously admitting how she didn't enjoy dancing in the early stages of Little Mix. I think this has a pretty strong hook, the production is fun and her vocals are on point. I really don't know where it went wrong with this one. I'd happily rank it up there with the group's classics.

Despite being held off top spot by LISA's 'Rockstar', it ended up becoming the defining song of my Summer and finishes a few places higher than that one did in this countdown. Usually when an album is released, I move on from the earlier singles and chart some new stuff but this was a rarity in managing to re-enter after the album was released, even climbing back into the top 10. I really enjoy the guitar on this one and it helps the chorus feel so euphoric. It sounds perfect in the sun and was a big part of the holiday to Bilbao. Ashe still has one more song to appear.

Freddie Gibbs) If you can't get on board with the sample of Jason Mewes from Dogma and Kanye's inexplicable constant repetition of said line, you're really not going to like this song. Ty sets us off with a solid hook and Freddie finishes the track with a great verse that gives the song some credibility and Kanye comes through just repeating "beautiful, big titty, butt-naked women just don't fall out the sky, you know?" It's so stupid that you either despise it or you come through the other side and end up in the so-bad-it's-good thought process. Freddie even calls-back to it in his verse but somehow makes it sound cool which was very impressive. The original version of this had a Quavo verse instead and some of his adlibs still remain on track. I think replacing him with Freddie is what saved the track though. An ok Quavo verse wouldn't have been enough for me to get on board with Kanye's divisive 'verse'. As it is though, it's a banger. You'll never forget the Dogma sample ever again. Kanye gets his highest landing of the 2020s while Freddie Gibbs still has another song to come.

Olivia's rockier songs have always been a favourite of mine so this single choice was right up my street. I think she sells these songs so well and I think a huge part of that is because she's not afraid to write true to her age, even if it doesn't feel fully right hearing the word 'butthurt' in a song. The 'SOUR' album stood out from the crowd and became the definitive teenage album because it dealt with the topics that matter to people at a young age and spoke about them truthfully. While it's obviously exaggerated for effect, the feelings of inadequacy and insecurity and universal and are only heightened when you're at a younger age. With Olivia, you really believe her when she's singing these type of songs and that's one of the reasons why I think she's become so huge. I have no doubt that this would have finished higher if I had seen the GUTS tour last year as planned. After the Co-Op's shenanigans and the long wait for an update, I was sulking a bit and probably didn't go back to Olivia's music as much as I should have done throughout the year.

This is a really funky track that bops along nicely without ever having the crazy dance section like 'Houdini'. It constantly sounds fresh and hasn't even hinted at getting old for me yet. I'm very excited to hear this one in a stadium setting in the summer. I was quite shocked to see it finish so high in my last.fm chart, especially when it was from an album that didn't get spun anywhere near as much as some others this year, but I won't complain at it doing so.

I wouldn't worry for her too much though as she still has another song to come. This one feels like classic BLACKPINK with the Hip-Hop sounding beat and feels like a merging of her debut solo singles 'Lalisa' and 'Money'. 'Rockstar' is braggadocios to the max and allows Lisa talents in rapping and dancing both to shine. She really is the definition of stage presence and star quality and it's impossible to take your eyes off her in the video. Somehow LISA is the only member of BLACKPINK that does not have a solo top 40 hit which is unbelievable as she seems to be the most popular. I hope that can change when the album is released next month.

Ariana Grande) Charli's first step in her successful plan for world domination in 2024 started with the release of BRAT lead single 'Von dutch'. For the first thing anyone hears of your new project to be the line 'It's okay to just admit that you're jealous of me' is a pretty ballsy choice but perfectly embodies the vibe of this era. That drop from #1 to #8 in it's second week looks harsh but 'Von dutch' did the most perilous thing any #1 hit can do in my chart and reach top spot in the week before an Ariana Grande album is released. Strip out the Ariana tracks and it only dropped to #2. It's run after that is much more reflective of how much I appreciated it. It's actually a song that's held up really well for me and I'm enjoying it more now than ever. It was definitely iconic-ly performed on the tour too.

Releasing in December can often hurt your placement in these EOY charts but I'm quite happy with where this has landed. With the production being based around a pitched sample of Lous and The Yakuza's 'Interpol', AJ makes spits some Japanese and anime influenced verses months before Megan Thee Stallion similarly inspired track. The hook's vibey, the verses are wavy and the production is clean. AJ is in his bag as of late and nobody else can touch this sound.

Originally record and titled 'Christopher Reeves', this was removed from that album after Reeve (correct spelling) died the month before it's release. Although parts have been changed (a new bridge has been added), it does sound like a relic from the past but it works well on an album so focused on legacy and provides all the nostalgia for someone who grew up on Em's music. Over the past couple of days, the original version of this has leaked and it's interesting to hear what's changed (the line which is now about Caitlyn Jenner originally referenced to his 8 Mile co-star Brittany Murphy). The production on this is odd, to say the least, and I know it does put some people off but I really enjoy it. It's a devilish track naming a dance after the wheelchair-bound Superman actor but 20 years on from his passing, it feels more like a tribute than a troll.

This feels like a fair result after losing 2 weeks at #1 thanks to previews. It's reached £24 million which is obviously a far cry from the insane £76 million total that 2019's 'The Lion King' made but this is still going to be enough for it to end as a top 10 film of 2024. Disney would have obviously loved a total closer to 2019's film but I don't think this was ever really a possibility. Cinema going habits have changed massively since 2019 and this year's top grosser isn't even anywhere near that total. At the end of the day, this could have gone a lot worse, especially when it had a poor opening weekend. It has officially out-grossed the original 1994 classic (£22.6 million) although exchange rates would still heavily make true comparisons lean heavily in the 1994 film's favour. Three new entries this week with the biggest debut going to 'Babygirl' (£1,091,180, #5). This is an erotic-thriller from Halina Reijn (Bodies Bodies Bodies) and stars Nicole Kidman as a CEO who begins an affair with a young intern played by Harris Dickinson. With that cast and the prestigious 'A24' as it's US distributor, this film was definitely released with awards season in mind but despite it finding an audience at the box office and strong reviews, I feel like it's Oscar hopes are fading as it's just not getting that sort of buzz. 'Bodies Bodies Bodies' only made £916,909 in total so this is already the director's biggest hit. Last year, only two 18-certificate films debuted higher ('Smile 2', £2,000,089 and 'Poor Things', £1,819,563) so this represents a good start for adult-oriented films in 2025. The other two new releases this week feel like they will be more successful in their Oscar bids. Boosted two places by previews, Jesse Eisenberg written, directed and stars in 'A Real Pain' which debuts at #6 with £999,818 (£705,814 without previews). This is a comedy/drama about two cousins who go on a 'Holocaust tour' in Poland to honour their late grandmother. Starring as his brother is Macaulay's real-life brother Kieran Culkin who is highly predicted to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his acclaimed performance. The final new entry this week is 'Maria' at #10 with £509,328 (£382,771 without previews). Starring Angelina Jolie as legendary opera singer Maria Callas. This is the third part of director Pablo Larraín's unofficial trilogy of biopics of famous 20th century women following 'Jackie' and 'Spencer'. See below for his opening weekends. Both of these previous films bagged their lead actresses Oscar noms (Natalie Portman, Kristen Stewart) and Jolie will be hoping to make it 3/3. After a supporting role in 'Eternal's, this is Jolie's first leading role since 2021's 'Those Who Wish Me Dead' (£302,653, #7). As one of the biggest movie stars of our lifetimes, it would be great to see her make a proper comeback now. Losing top spot but holding well is 'Nosferatu' (-62% but only 36% without previews). It's already at a point where it's just short of £9 million. For comparison, this would already put it in third place for 2024 horror films, above 'Longlegs (£8.1 million) and only trailing 'A Quiet Place: Day One' (£10 million) and 'Alien: Romulus' (£13.4 million). It's ahead of where 'Romulus' was at this stage so has a good chance of beating that film's total. I don't even know what the next-most recent highest horror grosser would be, 'It: Chapter Two' maybe? Or if you're being generous with genre 'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness'? 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3' holds ok as it climbs back up to #3 with a 44% drop. It has now passed £20 million and should pass 'Kung Fu Panda 4' in the next few weeks to bag the final top 10 spot for 2024. It has now passed the final gross for the original 'Sonic' film and should still reach the £27 million total for 'Sonic The Hedgehog 2' but I'm starting to think it won't go too much higher. Dropping a spot but holding well is 'We Live In Time (-53% or only 19% when you take out previews) with a second weekend above £1 million. It's very speedily catching the £6 million total of the director's previous biggest hit 'Brooklyn' and will probably hold the crown by next weekend. With it already being at £5.2 million, it has officially outgrossed 'Better Man' which drops to #9 (-33%). It's another relatively good hold but it really needed great holds to save it after it's poor opening weekend. Robbie Williams's biopic had a reported budget of £110 million and has completely bombed this weekend with a $1 million opening in America so £5 million in his home market just isn't good enough. It's a shame because it's had brilliant reviews but this is one of the biggest bombs of recent times. 'Wicked' is still holding well for a film already being available on digital, dropping a further 47%. However this is enough for it to overtake 'Deadpool & Wolverine' to be the 2nd biggest film of 2024 with 'Inside Out 2' looking to also drop behind by next week. 'Moana 2' didn't have a good weekend, it wasn't even in the top 10 for Friday, but recovered enough to land at #8. A 52% drop is quite harsh though which suggest that it's on it's way out. It will pass the £40 million barrier but I don't think it will do much more than that. Seeming that the original only made about £20 million in total, doubling that for the sequel is still an outstanding result. In great news for the box office in general, we are still running 28% ahead of the total box office at this stage last year in a year that's tipped to be big. There is one further new entry in the #11-15 section: 'Game Changer' (#13). We also see a re-release of 'Se7en' enter at #15. Next week sees the openings of 'Wolf Man', 'A Complete Unknown', 'Here', 'William Tell', 'Emmanuelle', 'Alone No More' and 'Panda Plan'. Can any of them top the charts? ~ Pablo Larraín's Openings: Tony Manero (£7,532, #22, 2009) Post Mortem (£3,201, #22, 2011) No (£57,315, #16, 2013) The Club (£9,285, #24, 2015) Jackie (£662,900, #6, 2017) Neruda (£40,132, #20, 2017) Spencer (£492,643, #6, 2021) Maria (£509,328, #10, 2025)

We had a fun moment at the start of the year where my first two #1 hits were called 'yet, but' and 'yes, and?' I said earlier that Lia used to be my favourite member before she went on a break from the group, but during her absence Yuna has definitely taken her spot with this song playing a huge part in why. This would probably be considered by critics to be the worst of the solo tracks but it's pure bubble-gum and I love it! Who doesn't love a random Pokemon reference in a music video? It's so pink, so princess (yeah, I'm using that as an adjective) and so fun. 2023 was the year of 'Barbie' but this embodies the concept more than any song from that film's soundtrack. Talking about the track Yuna said "I wanted to make it a song that made people happy. I wanted to create a song that would bring smiles and brighten people’s day as they listen. [...] If you smiled at least once listening to this song, I think that’s enough for me" and all I can say is that I certainly did! Final reminder that all of the music videos for the ITZY solo tracks are only for half of the song.
