  1. There's also very postive reviews from Germany - where Fedderson, a German columnist for ARD wrote - "Bonnie Tyler at any rate is the best thing that could happen to this years ESC - a celebrity beyond compare"....and on another Eurovision site, a guy from Finland said that they are saying very postive comments about Bonnie and the song on a Finnish forum, and how much her style of music appeals to thier taste. He said that they never usually rate the UK entries - but they love this one.. Over 200,000 Youtube hits in 24 hours cant be bad either - I'm actually glad it is Bonnie Tyler now.
  2. I was so disappointed when it was finally announced that it was Bonnie Tyler. But, the funny thing is, the response from around the rest of europe has been the completely opposite to the negative reactions in the UK.. Denmark's top radio station thinks that Bonnie Tyler is the strongest competition for the Danish entry, and they wrote a very positve article saying how popular Bonnie Tyler still is around europe. Last years Spanish entrant (Pastora) tweeted that she loves the UK entry, and another Spanish fan said that 'Believe in Me' is the only Eurovision entry of 2013 that has been played on Spanish radio...i've also seen many positive comments from Swedish, Belgians and Greeks who have the song as thier number 1. Maybe its a British thing?, but lets be honest, we havent exactly been very good at picking UK entries have we? - Dont Play that Song Again, Scooch, Jemini, Andy Abrahams, Javine, Josh Dubovie ect - Europe 'didnt get' any of them..and yet, i remember Nicki French being at the top of many UK Eurovision polls - Brits blamed 'the war in Iraq' for Jemini's 0 points - totally oblivious to the fact that Gemma couldnt sing for toffee and the song was so repetitive, it could have been written on the back of a fag packet..and of course Scooch - the biggest embarassment of the lot - As fellow Brit John Barrowman described to a very fickle UK audience that it would be - 'Perfect for Eurovision'...LOL in 1935 maybe. And yet, Love Shine a Light, was described by brit's as boring, 'Come Back (a snoozefest) and 'My Time as rubbish by a lot of Brits. A winner and two top 5 positions. So going by British taste at Eurovision, its looking very good for Bonnie :D
  3. If Bonnie was the UK entrant 20 or even 10 years ago, then it wouldnt be so bad. But she doesnt have the voice she had back then. I've seen some recent live performances and she does seem to struggle with some notes. I hope the BBC realise that Eurovision isnt about 'that one' performance on a Saturday night. These days, the national jury gives thier points on the night before - (at the final dress rehearsal) - then the televoters will be added after the Saturday night performance. We need somebody who can pull it off twice on consecutive nights, and i dont think her voice would cope with it so much these days. With all of the weeks rehearsals and the tour that she's doing on top of it. If they cant get Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, Joss Stone or Alexandra Burke to do it - i'd rather take a chance with Bo (from the Voice), or another 'Voice' contestant or Lucie Jones, Ella Henderson, and try a fresher more up do date approach... :)
  4. There's a couple of other people we can cross off that list - Mika recently signed up for festival dates that clash with Malmo, and Gamu was asked on twitter if she's doing Eurovision, and she said no. I'm still hoping for Paloma, Olly Murs - or hopefully if Graham Norton was pulling our leg - i'd like it to be Dido :D
  5. I think we can do well at Eurovision (if we try), but the problem is - the BBC's lacklustre approach. When Jade represented us, she had the backing (and name) of Andrew Lloyd Webber behind her. We had a big weekly national final, which began to drum up a lot of interest, and the entry was chosen before the end of January. By the time we got to March, Jade had already been on a massive promotional campaign, performing at the Maltese, Greek, Bosnian, Spanish, Ukrainian and Russian national finals. We ended up with a top 5 finish that year, due to a lot of hard work. This year is going down the same route as 2010, where the BBC left it until last minute and we ended up with a rushed and very amaturish national final and very out-dated song... I hope that this long wait has been worth it. For me, its make or break with the BBC. They really should have learnt from thier mistakes last year. How they even thought that an 80 year old man who hasnt had a hit since about 1970 could compete in a young modern song contest still baffles me. I really hope they will suprise us in a good way, and kind of make ammends - The days of Bucks Fizz are gone, its a different contest now. somebody current, fresh and who wouldnt look out of place in modern Eurovision, please. :)
  6. I agree - If the BBC didnt get the message after Engelbert Hunperdink last year, they never will. I think Alexandra Burke with a big powerballad would be a good choice. So many dance tracks chosen already - a big ballad for a girl with a big voice could stand out. Paloma Faith would be a great choice too.
  7. Reading through that entire list, and although its very unlikely that it would be most of them - if it did turn out to be a 'shock' announcement - i'd be very happy with Paloma Faith, Jessie J, Olly Murs, Robbie Williams, Lily Allen, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Alexandra Burke or Laura Mvula. If the BBC decide to bring out the zimmer again for Petula Clark - then they might as well just re-send Engelbert Humperdink. The last singer that Graham Norton played on his show today was Bonnie Tyler :(
  8. I often wonder if the BBC still think that the likes of Clodagh Rogers can do well at Eurovision. Picking Engelbert Humperdink over Diana Vickers, and turning down current or credible artists like Hurts and Katie Melua doesnt give me much confidence that we will have a good entry when we do 'finally' find out who the UK artist is. A lot of names i've heard being rumoured are Susan Boyle, Kim Wilde, Shirley Bassey, Bonnie Tyler and even Bonnie Langford - not exactly stating '2013' or 'modern' are they?...There's such a dated stigma in the UK regarding Eurovision, even our rumoured artists are past thier cell by date..so goodness knows what the actual announcement will be. :(
  9. What goes around, comes around. Rita might think that Eurovision isnt taken seriously in the UK, but in many parts of europe, its taken very seriously. Once the european media get to hear that Rita Ora thinks she's "Too good for Eurovision", her career could sink faster than her bitchy comments. She will soon change her tune when the hits stop happening, and all she's left with are offers to take part in 'I'm a Celebrity'...
  10. Yes, Birdy or Charlene Soraia would be perfect :D
  11. I hope its neither Kim Wilde or Bonnie Tyler. Both would have been great entries about 20 years ago - but i'm hoping we enter something much more current this year. If the BBC cant find a big name that's had more recent success, i'd rather we send a young unknown singer (with a good voice) and a modern song. I'd be embarassed if we send another ancient artist, when most of the other countries are entering younsters with chart friendly songs..
  12. Lots of countries seem to be sending dance tracks this year - Germany, Slovenia, Ireland, Belarus ect - so maybe a powerballad will stand out as being different to the rest. I think Loreen won last year due to the fact that her song/style was totally different to anything else in that contest. This year there are a lot of dance tracks, and they might cancel each other out during the voiting - so i'm hoping that the UK enters something totally different...Paloma Faith, Dido, maybe that Bo from The Voice?
  13. Charlotte Church was one of those rumoured last year, so yes, it could be her. This article that says "We will never guess in a million years", if its true, i cant think who they could be talking about, because almost every female singer that i can think of has been mentioned. Unless its somebody from outside the UK, known for power ballads? I was hoping for Diana Vickers, Amelia Lily (along those lines) - but now that it isnt, i'd be happy with Dido. What worries me is one of the more recent rumours - Bonnie Tyler. Great singer (in her time), but i'm hoping for something more current, especially after Engelbert.
  14. Now that Diana Vickers and Leanne Mitchell have said it isn't them - and Amelia Lily will be busy supporting 'Girls Aloud' - i've been trying to work out who it could possibly be - I've heard a few people mention Dido. She has a new song coming out called 'No Freedom', and she did an interview with Radio 2 today. Olly Murs?, or maybe a runner up from 'The Voice'..
  15. Could it be Amelia Lily?. On her twitter, she says she's just got back from Russia and Norway, and some fans on a facebook Eurovision site think it could be her
