  3. i’ve been listening to Ride It, 100% Pure Love & Set Me Off a lot this week and it’s just made so sad in regards to this era. Disco Sister Music really could have been something positive for Geri, because it would’ve been filled with the type of songs she was known & loved for. no one was buying Geri Halliwell singles & records expecting Whitney Houston, Celine Dion etc. Geri wanting to be taken more seriously as an artist just had the opposite effect in my opinion. it also doesn’t help that Geri had a very defeatist attitude & didn’t like hearing anything negative (didn’t she change management teams like 6 times during the conception of Passion & its release?) Ride It coming in at #4 after 3 or so years since her last single should’ve shown Geri that she did still have people who bought her music & supported her career, but because it wasn’t a #1 i think she completely second guessed herself. i think she thought that her being a Spice Girl would carry her career, but after like 2002 most of the public had moved on and stopped automatically caring about the individual members. (however i’m only 17 so hey what do i know) i was watching ‘An Audience With Geri’ earlier today (i assume it took place during the release week of Passion) & she just looks so sad? i think she knew, deep down, that she regretted second guessing herself. the audience asking about 100% Pure Love, saying how Love Never Loved Me is the best song on the album etc. it just proved that Geri did know what she was doing (most of the time) but she just didn’t trust herself, probably because Calling stalled at #8 back in 2001 which was her call to be made a single. i’m kinda going off on a tangent here 🫡 but it is totally a shame how everything came crashing down just because she was second guessing herself! i do think Disco Sister Music would’ve been a nice top 10 album with some big singles, a la Neon Nights (2003)
  4. yes! it sold twice as more as ‘Passion’ by Geri first week which got to #41 and around 3k less than Victoria’s self titled which made the top 10 - so it’s all about timing unfortunately. i’m sure Emma wasn’t too fussed though as she got pregnant not long after the album’s release which would obviously have been a bigger priority.
  5. Downtown, Something Tells Me & Mischevious were definitely my favourites! a #65 peak is absolutely CRIMINAL, but i’m aware that the sales were actually pretty decent and the album just suffered on the charts due to the christmas period.
  6. hey all! i’m new to this website but i listened to this album for the first time today & i immediately fell in love. i’ve heard A Girl Like Me & Free Me before but i hadn’t heard this one; however this album definitely solidifies Emma as the Spice Girl with the best solo albums.
