Hah! Apparently it's the first time they've done a competition involving signed stuff for ten years. They really seem to be going for this, if you order the CD from a different website you could win some artwork signed by the designer (yay?) and they've reduced the price of the CD on Amazon.

I did get a promo email from the Stones saying you could be entered into a draw to win a Mick Jagger autograph if you buy their album this week, but I don't know how many people would be motivated by that and wouldn't already have bought one.

The Stones have a slightly mixed chart record with this sort of reissue - Exile On Main Street got (back) to the top of the chart, Sticky Fingers went Top 10, Some Girls didn't even go Top 40 (but it was released in Q4).

Interesting that the two Bowie RSD albums ended up slightly higher than on the Monday/Tuesday mids (whichever they were). Presumably this is because shops that took online orders on the Saturday evening didn't get to ship them until later in the week. Also, I see Kelly Lee Owens managed to stay in the Top 100 after all, thus making it the second chart album this year to feature a cover version of Radiohead's 2007 album track 'Weird Fishes/Apreggi'. You wait 13 years....

Why shouldn't they? I was streaming an album from 1997 earlier this afternoon.

Presumably streams of the remix album would be counted as streams of the respective songs though? And in turn those would contribute to the chart position of the original album?

I don't think that quite the same as a remix album though - I wouldn't count the track-by-track remixes of Beatles albums either. Love just about counts as one because there's some reinterpretation, not just trying to improve the sound quality.

I like the Billie Eilish track, so I suppose it makes sense that her usual audience aren't as keen.

Can confirm - most people probably did like one band more than the other but I knew quite a few people who bought both singles. Even though I only bought the Blur single that week (I actually bought CD2), I picked up the Oasis one in a bargain bin a few weeks later. I never liked Roll With It as a song though.

That's unlikely to factor in unless it's also a holiday in the US or Canada, surely?

I don't really know why they care that much though. It's already been Number One, it'll be Number One again, what is there to prove?
