  1. Just realised Rik Mayall is in the list. Possibly should be mentioned that he had a Number One as part of The Young Ones.
  2. Oh yeah, didn't notice the Top 10 bit, sorry. Is that part of the Radio 1 format too? Marmaduke Duke do indeed feature Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro. Similarly, Alex Turner (Last Shadow Puppets) had several T20 hits in Arctic Monkeys, and Jack White from the White Stripes was in the Raconteurs.
  3. Few indie ones that seem to be missing: 'Long Time Coming' by Delays, 'It Ended On An Oily Stage' by British Sea Power and 'Rubber Lover' by Marmaduke Duke. I can only imagine R1 playing the last of those though. I presume James Dean Bradfield is excluded because of his credit on 'Lopez' by 808 State?
  4. Is she definitely credited? I think I've seen different credits in different places. I know she's NOT credited on '5 Years' Time'.
  5. I though he was hidden under James Bay's hat.
  6. Here's the details of the Tori re-issues: http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/tor...eluxe-editions/ Worth keeping an eye on SDE, he's pretty well-informed about forthcoming re-issues.
  7. More notes as threatened/pormised: MC SKAT KAT - Should he be linked to Paula Abdul? MOP - Stands for "Mashed Out Posse" MAC BAND - Stands for "Men After Christ" PAUL McCARTNEY - his birth name was James Paul McCartney KIRSTY MacCOLL - was the aunt of Jamie MacColl from Bombay Bike Club, half-sister of Neill MacColl from The Bible [i know this has cropped up in another thread recently] IAN McCULLOCH - was also a member of Electrafixion Correct title of his last hit is 'Sliding' [the album was called Slideling] JANE McDONALD - First rose to fame in the documentary series The Cruise, hence the title of her hit 'Cruise Into Christmas' is a medley: IAN McNABB - Correct song title is 'You Must Be Prepared To Dream' Ralph Molina & Billy Talbot were members of Neil Young's band Crazy Horse. MACEO & THE MACS - Maceo Parker is possibly better known for his work as a member of James Brown's band MADHOUSE - Also written Mad'House MADNESS - Correct title is 'The Harder They Come' 'Drip Fed Fred' features Ian Dury MAGAZINE - Barry Adamson also played with Visage and later joined Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. He had two Top 100 singles as a solo artist. GARETH MALONE - Mel Giedroyc is listed twice MANIC STREET PREACHERS - Richey Edwards is credited as Richey James on releases while he was still in the band. His full name was/is Richard James Edwards. Nicky Wire's real name is Nicholas Jones The 1992 and 1997 entries of 'You Love Us' are a re-recording with lyrical and musical variations. Personally, I'd have listed them separately. 'Repeat' was also listed on the original 1991 entry of 'Love's Sweet Exile' 'Theme From M*A*S*H' has the subtitle '(Suicide Is Painless)' 'Little Baby Nothing' features Traci Lords on vocals, though she wasn't credited on the chart. MANSUN - 'Grey Lantern' is mis-spelt in the listing for Six EP. Personally, I would be reluctant to count releases from Three EP onwards as EPs, since they were on multiple formats with only one common track, but that's a matter of opinion. MARION - Phil Cunningham is now a member of New Order, appears on records from 2005 onwards. He was also in Bad Lieutenant, who never appeared in the singles chart. MARS VOLTA - Cedric B-Z and Omar R-L were previously members of At The Drive-In. MARVIN - Technically I don't think the character is supposed to be British, or from this planet at all. Stephen Moore is of course British though.
  8. And the first two big Tori Amos albums are being re-issued next month, though they've only added B-sides to them, nothing new.
  9. Yeah, and before Verbalicious she was in long-running radio soap opera The Archers.
  10. For what it's worth, I personally would have kept the two separate, but I would alphabetise them under MANF as it's a group name. I can see the arguments either way though. I also agree about the comma and Paul Jones' solo hits. Also Jack Bruce is misspelt and he should be linked to his appearances with Cream and BBM. Tom McGuinness was in McGuinness Flint. On a related note, Steve Nieve was involved with The Madness, a spin-off act who could have been listed separately though I know this would be tricky in this particular format. More M notes to follow.
  11. In fairness to The Verve, they did make some effort to clear the sample (even original pressings of the single acknowledge the sampled track and credit the song to Jagger/Richards/Ashcroft) but apparently whoever's job it was to do that hadn't done it properly so the publishers or the Stones' infamous ex-manager Allen Klein could claim that it hadn't been cleared properly and thus sue.
  12. You know what, I'm not a lawyer nor a musicologist so I can't comment on whether the resemblance between the songs crosses the legal threshold (especially in a foreign country). All I can say is that when I first heard 'Blurred Lines' I thought it was so similar to 'Got To Give It Up' that I was genuinely surprised when I later found it wasn't a credited sample. I don't know whether I'm in a minority on Buzzjack in having been familiar with the Marvin Gaye song first, or whether that makes any difference. Can't say I'll be shedding a lot of tears for Robin Thicke anyway.
  13. Jamie MacColl is also the son of Neill MacColl, who had chart success as a member of the Bible. (this makes him the grandson of Peggy Seeger and the great-nephew of Pete Seeger). Neither they nor the Mumbai Velocipede Association has had a Top 40 single though. On a different musical tip, LMFAO are an uncle and nephew and Redfoo is the son of Berry Gordy (obviously best-known as the founder of Motown but also had a Number One single as a songwriter) and the half-brother of Rockwell.
  14. Maybe Ella just damaged her career by releasing that tuneless ballad as her last single? This one's actually much better.
  15. I'm 63 years (and 56 minutes) away from my hundredth birthday, so who knows what being a centenarian would be like by that time even if I do live long enough?
  16. Really? I'd assumed HAIM were the sort of act Capital would lap up - high-profile, with the cachet of being somehow "indie" but lacking anything challenging or potentially distracting to commercial radio listeners. At the least I'd have thought they're the sort of act who'd get played on somebody else's track. It's not like he's made a record with Napalm Death or something.
  17. Hmm... I have heard some other versions of what "MFSB" might stand for, but Mother Father Sister Brother is certainly the printable version.
  18. ISTR reading at the time that the OCC (or CIN as I think they still were at the time) agreed to rerun the chjart on the condition that it wasn't made public to protect confidentiality. I presume that was because it would've revealed Virgin/Our Price's market share but that seems rather moot now.
  19. Skepta tweeted on Saturday that his album wasn't coming out today. He didn't say when it was, though.
  20. I only learnt today that Marlon Roudette was Neneh Cherry's stepson. I did already know he was in Mattafix though.
  21. Can't believe that Mr Probz song isn't out until late March. Radio 2 have been playing it sporadically since December.
  22. Somehow I was convinced that John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John had a hit called 'Summer Lovin' so I wasted at least a minute retyping that several times.
  23. I think I've heard it on Radio 2 a couple of times, if it's the one that sounds like a lame version of 'Love Is Gonna Lift You Up'?
  24. The Hit Parade posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Isn't Bat Out Of Hell always in the Top 100?
  25. I think I prefer the slightly more minimal album version of 'Put Your Arms Around Me' to the single mix. I remember seeing them live supporting the Beautiful South (yeah, I'm that down with the kids!) and Sharleen brought a boombox on stage to play the backing track. I presume that total for 'Say What You Want' includes the Wu-Tang Clan version?
