OCC: Sharleen Spiteri celebrates 25 years of Texas
Glad I'm not the only person who's noticed this, I'd been wondering since the project was announced. I suppose it must have been the 25th anniversary when they had the idea.

iTunes Album Chart ~ 2015
Just looked up some Four Owls tracks. I was kind of hoping they'd actually be rapping more about the the birds, but their main lyrical agenda seems to be "we used to smoke lots of weed" and "we're really good at rapping". To be fair they're not bad but they're not very unusual either. Suspect I may be the only person who's a member of Buzzjack and the British Trust for Ornithology, but I'm willing to be proved wrong on that.

The obvious example that sprung to my mind was November 1978, when 'Sandy' by John Travolta was Number 2 behind 'You're The One That I Want' by him and Olivia Newton-John.

He's always had the Radio 2 backing though, It must be the whatnot.

Jack Savoretti at #2? Where have all his fans suddenly appeared from since his last album peaked at 109?

I think "patronising" is probably the word I'd use for 'Miss Independent', although the video makes it worse. Must admit 'Coming With You' actually sounds quite decent until he starts singing though.

Makes a change to see Gregory Porter getting some publicity, etc.

Wait, so it's not actually from or in the film, just cashing in? I was wondering why she hadn't been sued.

Spotify Chart Thread 2015, Part I
Think you've got an extra "e" in one of your words there! I'm in the Maroon 5 haters club anyway, but 'Animals' is an especially horrible song even by their standards, with all those screechy vocals and the dodgy lyrics. Presumably the video wasn't shown a lot in daytime either.

Yeah, I saw the Say Lou Lou album shows as "unavailable" on Amazon and their Twitter just says it'll be out "soon".

Kodaline up to 20 now. Shows how significant pre-orders are in the first few hours of the week.

New Release Schedule: Monday 26 January
To be honest, I'm less worried by the reject X-Factor contestant [although why has it taken him over a year to get signed?] than by the fact that it's co-written by one of Scouting For Girls.

Is there still time to destroy the universe before this happens?

Is this a version of the Rodriguez/David Holmes song? Edit: Yes it is, and it's crap. TurWFc1tfGE

Yeah, I saw the Aphex Twin album on Amazon last weekend but I think it's a deliberately secretive release. Apparently it's a "13-track EP".

Virtual Book of Hit Singles - "K"
Finally found my K notes, sorry they're late: KLF - Some people have claimed that 'Ooh Ah Cantona' by 1000 Drums featuring Unjustified Ancients Of Mumu is yet another KLF pseudonym, and although the KLF have denied this, not everyone believes them. Also, should Ricardo Da Force be mentioned since he features on almost all hits credited to KLF? KRS-One - Spelling of "Dainja" He also appears uncredited on 'Radio Song' by R.E.M. PREEYA KALIDAS - Her first hit is from the musical Bombay Dreams KAVANA - His real name is spelt Kavanagh GORDEN KAYE & VICKI MICHELLE - IMDB gives her real name as Michelle Vicki Nathan KEANE - Jesse Quin didn't work with them until 2008 and only became an official member in 2011. R KELLY - Correct title is 'Step In The Name Of Love' EDDIE KENDRICK - Also credited (as "Eddie Kendrick") on 'A Night At The Apollo Live' by Hall & Oates. The name change was allegedly for contractual reasons. KENICKIE - Pete Gofton is also credited as Pete X on some releases. Shouldn't he be listed second alphabetically though? (personal note: I was once insulted in the same tweet as him, which is the closest I get to stardom) BRIAN KENNEDY - George Best A Tribute is an EP 'You Raise Me Up' by Brian Kennedy; 'The Long And Winding Road' by Peter Corry; 'Bring Him Home-Vincent (medley)' by both of them. KICK HORNS - Lineup: Simon Clarke, Roddy Lorimer and Tim Sanders. I'm not sure which of them played on that specific track though. KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES - 'Undercover Lover' also has a sleeve credit "featuring Frankie Sandford" [now Bridge] KILLS - Jamie Hince previously charted as a member of Scarfo. He is married to Kate Moss, who has featured on a couple of charting singles. Alison Mosshart also has some uncredited guest appearances, including one with Primal Scream (who also worked with Kate Moss) CAROLE KING - Some sources list 'It's Too Late' as a double-A with 'I Feel The Earth Move' KINGMAKER - Full title of their last hit is 'In The Best Possible Taste (Part 2)' KINGS OF LEON - The first two hits are EPs Holy Roller Novocaine: 'Mollys's Chambers', 'California Waiting', 'Holy Roller Novocine' The only common track to all formats of What I Saw is 'Red Morning Light' KINKY MACHINE - Johnny Bull and Louis Eliot later formed Rialto

New Release Schedule 19.01.2015
Lack of manufacturing capacity, probably. It's very common for vinyl albums to come out weeks after the other formats now.

Virtual Book of Hit Singles - "L"
You might want to change that before he thinks you're accusing him of something! Actually he's a singer rather than a rapper anyway. Oh, and since the La Roux thing has come up, my inclination is to say that Ben Langmaid wasn't a member of the group by the time 'Uptight Downtown' was released, having officially left. But I see it is a tricky one.

New Release Schedule 12.01.2015
I'm pretty sure a HAIM collaboration is a more obvious commercial move than one with Gwen Stefani in 2014-15.

'Saturday Love' is a real tune, it was sampled by Sway a few years ago I think. 'Criticize' is good too. But like most Twitter users, I wouldn't borrow his umbrella however much it rained.

I presume the alternative Comic Relief singles were dropped last year because in 2011 there were so many (remember George Michael as well) that they were all competing with each other for attention and sales.

Robbie Williams was a Sport Relief single, not a Comic Relief one, but yes it was a flop.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 21st December 2014
The Beastie Boys say hi. I know they were initially promoted as a novelty act but they were genuine talents and were having big hits and critical success before "Emimem" was famous. I think actually there's a subtly different thing going on, where black acts - or at least black men - are more likely to be perceived as "urban". Imagine if George Ezra sounded exactly the same way he does but looked different, for example. I don't think there's a lack of record company support from MNEK, he seems to hget quite a lot of investment after his failures as a solo act, but the media probably regard him differently. Oddly, the effect seems to be different with women, nobody seems to have any trouble accepting Emeli Sande or Lianne La Havas as MOR singers.

Surely R1 didn't playlist 'Miles Away' either? Radio 2 certainly did, even though it was a mega flop. But yeah, not being playlisted doesn't mean not getting played on the chart show.

Could an X Factor winner ever miss being Xmas no 1 on merit?
Right, because if you only wanted to one song and were patient, it was still cheaper to buy the single than the album. Conversely fans would still be willing to multi-buy a song they already had on album for the extra tracks, free posters etc and just out of habit.
